Wondering if we have showed any real interest in Moises Caicedo for this summer?

Macallister for me out of the Brighton pair. Caicedo is a quality player and we obviously looked at him before he went there but I think Macallister hits more of the needs/ style that EtH wants.

I like the player (along with many Brighton players - would be nice to raid a few of them! ) but couldn't understand how he went from pushing for a move away to signing a new contract a few days later. Maybe just to help Brighton get more cash when he does move or maybe he genuinely decided he's at the right club.

He was on a relatively low amount of money compared with his peers in the premier league, that's why he signed a new contract.

I think, he supports his family off 8 or 9 back home and was on very low wages. You have to do what's right for your family and loved ones.

Hi all

For any of the eds (and sorry for a round about approach to this question)

But I feel the areas that need most covering this summer are 2 midfields and a top quality CB

Although I like Pogba and he's talented, he's clearly suited to a different team! He has some great games but his consistency is poor. When we shoe horn him into the team we have to play mc tominay and fred together which is an awful midfield pairing and just causes complete imbalance to the team (mctominay is a good squad player but not a starter)

So my question is will Utd prioritize looking at a DMF and CM along with a top quality CB

Or will they just go all out for a RW? And also any idea if Van De Beek may get more time next season perhaps dropping back in Midfield instead of subbing for Fernandes

Thanks as always and love the work.

{Ed002's Note - No. The priorities will be a G, back up RB, CB and then the next priorities will be based on departures althhough they will look again at RW. THis has all been explained.}

I agree, Just a Thought. Yves Bissouma should be our first target. I am not convinced about Rice, and I think he is overpriced. I do like Ndidi. Offensively limited, but he can cover a lot of ground, allowing us to play 4-3-3 at times. But as Ed002 says, sounds like CDM is 5th on our list, which is sad.

2.) 15 May 2021 14:23:10
Agree Zidaniel. Playing 2 DMs hinders us in an attacking sense, and its done to protect the defence.

You see it at Leicester, Ndidi and Tilemans (excellent player) great partnership, same a Leeds and West Ham -one good DM with a creative player alongside means they play out quickly . For me 1 even 2 top CHs and a top DM would be priority, we would look a different team then.

100% agree.
Probably a case of managing priorities, economics of how far the money can go and keeping the squad balance/ minimum churn.

Perhaps a better CB pairing would mean we can go to one of Fred or McSauce. However my main reservation is that I'm unsure if either are actually good enough to be starting week in week out at an elite level.

RB to challenge AWB is needed and I honestly think AWB is average, an not at all sure he's good enough. Average at best going forward, elite 1 on 1 and average to poor positionally. He's be caught a few times lately and I think he's been found out. If Trippier is the one I'd be fine with that, good cross and sold 7/ 10 every week.

CB - I'm not sure if any of the existing are actually any good. I really don't rate Johnny Linfelof, he's a weak ass man, awful in the air but has a good long ball. Maguire I can't work out but looks a lot better with Henderson behind him and best of the bunch.
Bailly is entertaining in the same way a dog chasing their own tail is and is a car crash waiting to happen.
Axel just hasn't kicked on and injuries haven't helped. He needs first team football, time to move on.

All the players linked seem like improvements from Botman to Kounde, I'd love to see Varane and Pau Torres signed. Looks like Pau Torres is the one though.

Back up Goalkeeper is going to be needed when Grant, Romero, Joel P and potentially Dave De Gea go - can't argue with that. Heaton is a great signing for coverage and squad management being HG and club trained.

RW - Sancho to me looks perfect. He can cover all front 3 positions, rotating with Rashford at LF is going to invaluable in managing Rashford's playing time and maintaining a quality XI. JS would also allow Greenwood to cover Cavani and hopefully become the main man at CF while providing chances to blood Amad.

I think Martial needs to go to facilitate this and provide the game time to players. I also think Martial has his chance and not been up to it. I'd be happy to have him as 3rd choice behind Edi and Greenwood but I'm not sure he would be satisfied with that.

CDM still seems an issue but realistically something for summer 22. Matic will be gon by then, we can also move on Fred, McSauce will be at a make or break point in his career by then to and Garner could be pushing.

I really like the look of Garner btw and seems to be exactly what we are missing.

I have no clear preferred CDM. I'm not sure on Rice and he seems a bit slow over 5-10 yards, Kante is still the benchmark. Bissouma looks good. Philips doesn't look that much better than what we have either.

I kind of understand why we might want to prioritize other areas and wait on CDM as there are options.

agree with you on 90% of that Utd Road. I would have no issue showing the door to Lindelof, Bailly. Axel needs to move on for his career.

Something I didn't realise until recently Kounde is under 5ft 10 don't know how well he would do in PL but he looks very fast and good on with the ball. Torres looks good from what little I've seen. Bit of a wild card Milenkovic looks value for money at 25 mill and is also comfortable at right back. maybe lose something in an attacking sense playing him there but I like him and if we dint get Totrres-varane i'd like him and Torres.

With Sancho price dropping it s a no brainer. Fast, beats a man, exciting with an end product got the wow factor and someone you build a team around. we need to be buying players who go straight into the team -all successful teams have 8 -9 players whose names go on the team sheet week in week out.

Alternative to sancho- raphina with a deal for james other way?

6.) 15 May 2021 20:11:15
Good option funky.

Utd Road, I agree with a lot of your thoughts, but that is asking for a lot. We know Maguire will be one CB. I don't rate him but he has seemed to bring some stability that is missing without him. He has disappointed me with his forward passing and lack of goals for his size. He is only good at defensive heading, where he has more time to body his man first. Rarely scores off set pieces since he is not quick or athletic to attack a ball whipped in.

The other three have their issues. Lindelof I may rate a little higher than both of you, good positionally, better long passer than Maguire, but can be bullied off the ball on the floor and in the air. Bailly has some great qualities - quick, powerful, brave - but unpredictable is not a quality wanted at center back.

I think the greater issue is in the midfield. One true DCM of quality could at least allow us to play Pogba beside him, or van de Beek, of Pogba leaves. If we have a double pivot of Fred and McTominay, we will not be challenging for any trophies, only top four.

I love Bissouma, rate Ndidi highly, and am not as convinced about Rice, as we have all discussed above.

Ed do you think Utd will eventually get it over the line? And you do think it might be at the cost of other targets?

Just a thought

{Ed002's Note - I would not keep chasing a player who does not wish to join.}

Hi ed

Would it be fair to say that Liverpool have now trumped Utd to Nunez’ signature or is a transfer still possible?

Just a thought

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool will win out.}
