Rhumors circulating in Portugal around United hijacking the gyokorez deal and are close to an agreement with sporting.
Is this a tactic to push Arsenal to move or is there any legs in this? Be nice if there was.
1.) 20 Jul 2025 16:00:46
I’m not even sure he is the answer so let him go to Arsenal.
2.) 20 Jul 2025 16:55:19
I think it's just a tactic to get Arsenal to pay more.
3.) 20 Jul 2025 16:57:50
Arsenal and Sporting have been at a standstill for a while. Probably an attempt to stir up some competition and get them to up their offer.
Even if it is genuine, Gyokores wants Arsenal. We should stay clear of signing players who don't want to come here.
4.) 20 Jul 2025 17:09:13
Romano says it's all fake news.
5.) 20 Jul 2025 17:43:44
He would know BWB.
6.) 20 Jul 2025 17:44:47
I’m not sure on this guy at all.
But his energy is Cavani like and anyone who plays like Edison would be an asset to the current team.
That said this is plainly a hurry up tactic from Sporting to Arsenal. I’d be shocked if anything happens here.
7.) 20 Jul 2025 18:26:39
A gamble for sure, but one I’d be happy for us to take if his heart wasn’t set on Arsenal.
8.) 20 Jul 2025 18:42:13
I'm almost certain that this is a tactic from Sporting to push Arsenal to agree to their terms on the deal.
Apparently the overall fee is agreed, but they are wrangling over the structure of the deal. If that is the case and neither side are prepared to budge then it makes sense that a story like this is leaked to try and pressure Arsenal.
I'd expect the deal between Sporting and Arsenal to be all wrapped up by Wednesday now at the latest.
9.) 20 Jul 2025 21:14:34
I'd like to think its true but I don't. Not one word from united that we were ever looking to sign him as far as I know. I was hoping we would after my 1st choice of oshimen was clearly not happening.
But he has arsenal as his 1st choice and they want him so its only a matter of time in all probability. I don't think the arsenal director of football is incompetent and they have been in touch with him and sporting longer than us and Brentford were.
I wonder if we were even in fit him or did he pin his colours to the mast early on?
I suspect he was 1st choice delap 2nd who else is on the list that's attainable? I've no idea. Really looking forward to seeing who we end up with or if we buy at all.
10.) 20 Jul 2025 22:07:56
Gyokeres is a little too old to be shelling out that sort of money on. If it all goes pear-shaped, his value will plummet. I would prefer for the club to go for Sesko.
11.) 21 Jul 2025 02:12:27
I think he would've been a fantastic signing for us. But he's said he wants Arsenal and that is the line. We shouldn't even be entertaining the idea of signing him now. Let's carry on with the theme of the last three signings please, that being players that want US over other clubs, it must be a prerequisite for United signings.
12.) 21 Jul 2025 07:14:07
Jodler every player who comes to us and leaves value plummets, but come on it’s ridiculous saying he is too old, in that case we only ever end up with players like Rasmus, potential that don’t fill all the promise.
We need experience players too, I would not be surprised if Watkins and Mateta outscore Gyokores this coming season anyway
There not been one word RA even wanted him, only press talk, maybe RA thinks after seeing him close hand he won’t cut it in the EPL.
13.) 21 Jul 2025 08:36:22
We've tried players with potential, and it hasn't gone well. We have been crying out for a top notch goalscorer for some years (as have Arsenal), so if we do sign a CF, he needs to be proven.
14.) 21 Jul 2025 13:53:05
Yeah its a tough one ajh.
There are lads playing abroad but we know that does not necessarily transfer to the epl its like playing a different sport.
Available epl proven strikers are few and far between and usually overpriced.
Watkins at 50 to 60m will be 30 next season so does not represent good value the lad at Palace matetta looks decent last couple of seasons.
The lad from Bournemouth signed a new deal so its hard to get one the right profile that ticks a number of boxes.
There is risk involved with any signing and no guarantees with the vast majority.
15.) 21 Jul 2025 16:42:06
It's why I'm not sold on Sesko Ken. I would take Gyokeres because of the RA link, but there's no guarantees.
16.) 21 Jul 2025 17:52:01
I would not go for Sesko, it would be just another potential buy, we need an experienced epl proven striker, with pace…not a young kid who done nothing, we got that with Rasmus….
17.) 21 Jul 2025 18:18:37
Ive only seen 20 mins of sesko play for his national team. So know nothing of him. I wonder how many of the 60 voters on the poll have ever seen him play extensively.
He is highly rated by many but never got his move.
You can only hope it works out if its him we choose. Vivell knows him well so that might help.
20 Jul 2022 21:43:55
Any truth in this guys?
Antony to Man United is very much still on. The deal is one to keep an eye on during the remainder of the transfer window. United haven't got a specific price yet, but the price discussed in Holland is around €70m
Would you sign Antony for €70 million?
1.) 20 Jul 2022 22:02:21
I am never concerned or Interested in the money aspect of the game as the numbers are simply unfathomable and it’s not my cash.
Footballing wise, I’ve always preferred us with a fluid front 3 rather than a traditional No9 like Ronaldo now, and signing this guy is a move towards that fluidity and is a good replacement for Greenwood.
2.) 20 Jul 2022 22:42:26
He seems to be eth's guy. So very good sign if the club brings him in. Same with other signings, if eth is happy with ins and outs then we are in much better shape than setting him up to fail with players he doesn't really fancy while also trying to establish a new system and way of playing.
Seems like Martinez over pau Torres was heavily influenced by EtH. So that is another good sign.
Especially this season I think we need to back EtH and give him as much of his asks as we can, then it is over to him to get his squad playing how he wants them to.
Is Anthony worth that money, or good enough? No idea. But I am very happy if EtH is getting his players.
3.) 20 Jul 2022 22:45:48
I prefer a fluid front 3 too! I think keeping Ronaldo is a setback and will prevent this from happening. I think he's gone the wrong way about things and now has done too much damage to come back.
4.) 20 Jul 2022 23:09:58
Do Utd need a wide right player? Sancho has played there in preseason with Rashford only effective on the left, plus we have Elanga and arguably Eriksen. I think there is scope for another attacking player and Antony is certainly different to any of them.
Is he worth it? Ajax hold the cards, they don’t need to sell (even though they generally do in the end) and they know we want him. So it’s another 25% inflated fee that Utd always end up paying.
Overall I’m not convinced though he is an exciting player to watch. Personally I’d prefer a central player.
5.) 20 Jul 2022 23:41:06
Not a chance. I’d much rather we went for Depay or Dembele instead. Both are available, would cost about a third of what Ajax would want for Anthony (maybe less) and have proven themselves over multiple seasons and in multiple teams and leagues.
6.) 21 Jul 2022 00:56:41
What exactly has Dembele proven?
7.) 21 Jul 2022 06:40:45
Depay or dembele? Come on!
I agree with dodgy, if it’s a player ETH wants then that’s good enough for me and good to see club backing him!
Whether it happens or not god knows but I expect another 2 or 3 in and quite a few out!
8.) 21 Jul 2022 07:52:19
Anthony is a great player to watch very skillful rough around the edges but can be a wordie with the right guidance and with eth i think he'd be a superstar of the future along side sancho.
9.) 21 Jul 2022 09:32:15
Depay - seriously?
Dembele has been at Barcelona since 2017 and has done absolutely nothing but constantly get injured.
10.) 21 Jul 2022 10:06:35
What sim0 said.
11.) 21 Jul 2022 10:26:16
Assumed Redseven meant the Moussa flavour of Dembele, as didn't the Ousmane variety sign a new contract last week making him much more expensive than 1/ 3 Antony's valuation. May be mistaken!
12.) 21 Jul 2022 11:25:51
I think that this could be a late one (unless someone else goes for him) and will possibly be dependent on whether Ronaldo leaves. If he does I think we will go for Antony rather than a traditional number 9 and flex the front 3 between Rashford, Antony, Martial, Elanga and bring through some of the youngsters.
Could even flex to a 352 and have the full backs providing the width with 2 of the abve names in attack.
13.) 21 Jul 2022 13:47:52
Spenno is correct, I did mean Moussa. As for what Dembele and Depay have done, the former has banged in 75 goals in 167 league appearances since leaving Old Trafford and also has an international goals per game ratio that’s higher than England’s record scorer. As for Dembele, he’s notched 10 league goals or more in six of the past seven seasons, netting 79 league goals in his last 166 games. Both are proven goal scorers, both are consistent and both would hit the ground running. Most importantly though, both would cost around a third of the price of Anthony:
I’m not saying that Anthony is a bad player, but he’s only really had one good season and that was in the Dutch league. For some of the prices being quoted for him, we could have signed a CB, a CDM and a forward player in Nathan Colins, Bissouma, and either Depay or Dembele. All of those players would likely settle in much faster than Anthony too given that Colins and Bissouma are already based in the UK and Depay and Dembele have lived/ played here before.
14.) 21 Jul 2022 17:19:34
Bissouma was a non starter.
All 3 of ten Haag's signings look very promising. We are going in the right direction and I'm sure ten haag is considering options for midfield, which he clearly believes is critically important to his style of play.
15.) 21 Jul 2022 19:15:02
Think we’d only sign Antony if De Jong deal was definitely dead. We just have the money otherwise to spend on another RW. Sancho RW / Rashford LW looks to be first choice line up based on pre season. Of course we need cover and if Ronaldo were to leave that puts Martial as striker and cover options are only then Elanga / Garnacho / Amad / Pellestri - though the latter two surely more loan options this season?
Rashford could play as a forward to and Sancho switch to LW which would accommodate a new RW. Not seeing it though.
16.) 22 Jul 2022 07:06:08
I agree with Eric, I definitely prefer a more fluid front three. Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez was probably my favourite forwards line we have had in my lifetime. At the time none were what you'd call a traditional No.9.
All three could and would play in any of the three forward positions and would frequently switch roles.
Still gutted that we didn't get to see those three play together for longer.
17.) 22 Jul 2022 08:42:26
There was no chance those three ego’s were going to hang around together for long!
18.) 22 Jul 2022 10:19:35
FiremanC, Tevez left because United weren't prepared to pay the huge fee to his agent/ third party owner.
Ronaldo left a couple of years later to join Real Madrid which was his dream club.
When they were here there was a lack of ego from them, mostly because they were young and has Sir Alex as their manager.
19.) 22 Jul 2022 18:43:22
Ronaldo / Rooney / Tevez was a dream front 3 and as noted none of them a traditional No.9 at that time. Oh to relive the heady days of 2008 again.
Antony rumours look to be gathering pace. Ajax playing hardball over the fee as well they should but he's another player, like Martinez, who seemingly very much wants the move to United. Pre-season we look a different team sure but Rashford, Martial and to a lesser extent Sancho all have much to improve on based on last and previous years. Will Elanga make it at first team level? Will Garnacho breakthrough into the first XI next season? Is there a longer term plan for Amad and Pellestri other than just loaning them out? Lots of questions which to me means a move for Antony looks far more likely than not IF we can afford him. I am still not convinced we would get Antony and De Jong though in addition to Martinez, Malacia and Eriksen joining.
I suspect we are negotiating with Ajax to reduce the transfer fee for Antony and perhaps just as crucially gain the most favourable payment terms so we can stretch our buying power as much as possible this season. Suspect it only gets the green light though once Ronaldo confirmed to be leaving.
06 Jul 2022 17:04:33
Is there any truth that we've bid 51mil for Antony? Thanks.
{Ed002's Note - I don’t know the amount but I know a low bid has been made.}
1.) 06 Jul 2022 22:22:34
Thanks Ed hopefully we get this one in the bag.
2.) 07 Jul 2022 09:44:40
with Bergwijn leaving spurs for ajax i'm guessing that's as a replacement for an outgoing Antony.
3.) 07 Jul 2022 10:16:59
Big risk imo, not sure he good enough for prem league, absolute joke we never bothered for sterling who after kane is the best English player.
4.) 07 Jul 2022 10:17:56
Double raid for Antony and Martinez, would he be a Ronaldo replacement or would you see martial or rashford be given the chance to be the main man
Anthony and sancho wide with elenga and ganarcho as back ups then martial and rashford fighting for the striker role
I do believe ten hag will make a lot of these pretenders from last year much better.
5.) 07 Jul 2022 15:49:58
Roonbest61 I’m assuming that’s a joke?
Sterling is the most overrated player to play for a top 6 club for many a year.
How he started games for City ahead of Mahrez, Silva, Grealish, Jesus et al is bemusing.
6.) 07 Jul 2022 17:35:44
Okay downsie it's a joke, he is a terrible player ??.
29 Jun 2022 21:04:14
Would united be interested in bringing Depay back to the club?
{Ed002's Note - Sadly not.}
1.) 30 Jun 2022 20:15:36

This may be going against the grain. But. I know the gk cost us the game with the error but I thought his distribution was really good all game. He seems to be getting a lot of stick and the goal could of been avoided if Bruno wasn't slack on the ball and cost us the corner.
1.) 19 Aug 2025 22:41:54
I tend to agree. He is no worse than what we have as an alternative. Onana played week in week out last years despite his mistakes. Give Altay a run in goal to get his/ our confidence up.
Of course the caveat being we get a real custodian ASAP!
2.) 19 Aug 2025 23:01:38
He is better than the alternative. I also blame mount for weak defending as the "blocker" and poor defensive coaching putting mount on a big giant at corners.
Need a keeper. But we get no keeper, give our number 1 a chance at number 1 and see how he does.
3.) 20 Aug 2025 10:08:26
I tend to agree that if we are stuck with our current crop of keepers we could do worse than giving Bayindir a run of games, unless something has changed with Onana we know the deficiencies we get with him.
Interestingly Galatasary have submitted a bid for Diego Costa at Porto which has been rejected, always felt like he was Amorims number 1 choice so could be an opportunity there if funds available.
4.) 20 Aug 2025 10:24:23
I agree with the OP. Bruno’s dodgy pass in the box to concede the corner was atrocious. For all the good Bruno does he costs us so many dead ball situations in dangerous areas. Plus he loses possession too often in dangerous areas trying worldy stuff instead of the simple option. He amazes and frustrates.
5.) 20 Aug 2025 11:33:43
It was entirely the keepers fault. He is too weak and too meek for the EPL. A keeper shouldn’t have to rely on other players to protect them. They are the only player allowed to use their hands, and should be dominating the 6 yard box for corners. If they can’t do that, they’re a liability.
6.) 20 Aug 2025 12:29:40
Arsenal use more dark arts than Severus Snape, from blocking and holding to the time wasting at every opportunity which was in evidence throughout even the first game, and will be a theme throughout their season.
But that's not all they're about, and they're not the only side to do it. I don't particularly like how corners and freekicks have beecome more of a wrestling exhibition these days, but as Amorim said, we need to be stronger and deploy these tactics better ourselves.
7.) 20 Aug 2025 13:53:03
Couldn't care less about his distribution. Need someone that can do the basics right, command crosses/ corners and stop shots.
At this level I would expect a goalkeeper to be able to kick a ball.
8.) 21 Aug 2025 06:39:55
Looks like we got rid of Rashford so now some got a new person to Bash and that’s going to be our best player Bruno now, the mind boggles!
There are about another 6-8 players in the team or 14-16 in the squad that should be bashed long before Bruno, it’s RA who see’s Bruno deep in midfield I doubt it’s Bruno’s choice or preferred position, but wait we spent 200 million on new players there, so he got to be shoehorned in somewhere!
To my mind that’s crazy tactics rather than blaming Bruno for losing the ball in previously pattern of play. delusion to say Bruno should not play.
9.) 21 Aug 2025 09:47:33
What chance have our keepers got if even we don’t protect them. Was as obvious a foul as any you’ll see this season. I wouldn’t mind but 90% of fans usually complain like mad about Arsenal corners. Every one of them has players pushing and pulling off the ball to clear a path. We get one and it’s the keepers fault.
24 Jul 2025 14:52:25
Isaac putting in a transfer request is there any way we can make a deal happen or get funds to make this happen ? the idea of Liverpool signing him and elitike would kill me off.
1.) 24 Jul 2025 16:38:52
Bad news for us Newcastle could go watkins and sesko with the money. sesko and wissa . watkins and jackson. etc etc.
2.) 24 Jul 2025 16:43:34
They've currently spent around 300m on Frimpong, Kerkez, Wirtz and Ekitike. If they were to sign Isak as well who has to cost a bare minimum of 150m in the current market then they'll be looking to spend in excess of 450m this summer. Surely they can't afford to do that?
Or have they got wind that the EPL won't punish City for their breaches of the FFP/ PSR rules and Liverpool are like "f**k it, the rules don't apply anymore".
{Ed001's Note - can afford it easily. Right now Liverpool have spent less over the 3 year period than United have. A lot less. Even the addition of Isak would still leave United having spent more over the period, by a significant margin.}
3.) 24 Jul 2025 17:24:31
Not to mention that Liverpool have revenues > £700m in 2024/ 5 and maybe even more in the coming year. What are United without any European football going to be projecting in 2025/ 6? I'd be surprised if it's much more than £575m.
4.) 24 Jul 2025 17:54:27
I've got a sneaky feeling we might see Isak go to PSG, with Sesko coming in as his replacement.
Realistically, we wouldn't even get Isak's sack right now.
5.) 24 Jul 2025 17:59:06
I never really compared them like that and i had half ab hour to kill so it made me dig out some figures from 2022 to now in millions of £ source transfermarket:
Liverpool - Writz 116.5, Nunez 85.3, Szobosz 60.1, Diaz 50, Gakpo 44, Kerkez 40, Frimpong 35, Pecsi 1.5, Giorgi 26.1, Chiesa 10.5, MacAllister 36.6, Gravenberch 34.8, Endo 17.4, Carvalho 8.1, Ramsay 4.3, total 570.2 million pounds
Utd - Mbuemo 65.3, Cunha 64.4, Leon 3.4, Yoro 54, Ugarte 43.5, MDL 39.1, Zirkzee 37, Dorgu 26.1, Maz 15, Heaven 1.5, Hojlund 67.7, Mount 59, Onana 43.7, Altay 4.3, Antony 82.7, Cas 61.4, Martinez 49.9, Malacia 13, is 731 million pounds.
Hence a difference of £160 mil
If Lpool spend £150mil on Isak the margin will still be 10m.
6.) 24 Jul 2025 18:05:15
Liverpool spent very little last year, they also will likely sell Nunez and Diaz for good money.
We just have to accept that we have hamstrung ourselves for a few years and need to work within our constraints whilst Liverpool/ Chelsea etc find ways of making it work.
Hopefully in a few years we will be in a better position but with the debt it will always be difficult.
7.) 24 Jul 2025 22:45:59
And Liverpool can extend their accounting period to cover part of next year's transfer window too acc to a talksport radio guest intwrviewee.
26 Jul 2023 09:19:45
-------We are no interested in giving blow-by-blow accounts---------
21 Jun 2023 13:30:51
Could united hijack declan rice? Reports saying we ready to make a move for him?
1.) 21 Jun 2023 13:59:33
Not a snowballs chance.
2.) 21 Jun 2023 15:52:51
realistic targets are brozovic and rabiot who together would not be expensive but brozovic imo would play anywher in mid with rabiot been a more attacking option. I think this kind of money/ player will be more likely in the current window with requiring stiker and keeper who will be costlier.
3.) 21 Jun 2023 15:58:31
Get Mount in, get him working on Rice to convince him to come and play with his mate. Then offer West Ham swap deals with the 3 M's, Maguire, McTominy and Martial. Top it up with some cash. Job done!
Alternatively. no we wont.
4.) 21 Jun 2023 16:43:16
Rabiot does exactly what rice does at fraction of the cost and has played at the highest level club and won everything. I can see why we want mount because of what he can do that erickson can't but not sure rice is in our plans.
5.) 21 Jun 2023 17:12:28
Rice can cover CB.
Rabiot, Rice, Mount In
Fred, McT, Sabitzer Out.
6.) 21 Jun 2023 18:31:13
Proper upgrade that. A striker and either an RB or a CB and we are sorted for a title push.
7.) 21 Jun 2023 22:13:04
Rabiot is perhaps at his peak or just declining from it. Rice will only get better. Rabiot is unproven in the Premier League. Rice is battle hardened no risk. How many top teams want Rabiot. err none. That last point alone shows he is not good enough to get us to where we need to be.
8.) 22 Jun 2023 19:16:52
Salford, I think most sane people would pick Rice over Rabiot every day of the week.
But the difference is one will cost 100m and the other is free.
Now Rice is a better player (more suited to the EPL), but he isn't 100m worth of better player.
9.) 22 Jun 2023 23:54:58
Shappy it's a difficult decision making for Utd. Like most (some notable clubs excepted) Utd have a limited amount to spend but in order to reach the top they need the best players. Rabiot is not the best. So yes obviously Rice is not worth so much more than him in pure monetary terms. That said the difference between second and first does mean having to spend a lot of money as Arsenal know to their cost and are trying to address.
14 Jul 2022 09:18:29
Where do you think Martinez will play? Does he start? Who does he replace if he does?
1.) 14 Jul 2022 10:08:08
Centre Back
Yes
Maguire.
2.) 14 Jul 2022 11:44:59
Agree agree agree dsg.
3.) 14 Jul 2022 12:14:00
Left Center back replacing Maguire.
4.) 14 Jul 2022 12:53:28
DMF for me, EtH has confirmed maguire will be captain right?
5.) 14 Jul 2022 14:12:45
I think DFM as well.
I think he will stick with Maguire and Varane as the centre backs.
6.) 14 Jul 2022 15:32:41
EtH signed Martinez as a CDM for Ajax, coached him for a while and decided he would be better at CB.
So moved him there and almost exclusively played him in that role since.
EtH likes his CB's to play high and wide. In that respect they need to be comfortable in possession and capable of moving out wide to cover the full back.
Martinez fits that role perfectly, as a former midfielder he is comfortable higher up the pitch and in possession. While being left footed he is also comfortable moving out to the left flank to defend if needed.
We have few other if any options who are comfortable playing as high and wide on from the LCB position as Martinez is.
I'd be stunned if he plays anywhere but CB.
7.) 14 Jul 2022 18:15:39
He played for EtH at CB
Arsenal wanted him at CB
Ed02 I believe said we wanted him at CB.
Every scouting site and pundit I have seen says he is a CB.
I don't know why there is any thought we are getting him as a DM.
8.) 14 Jul 2022 20:32:59
Look up 'martinez Vs Chelsea' on YouTube. He was played as the holding midfield player in the champions League and absolutely ran the show. Perhaps explains why some people can imagine him as DM for us.
9.) 15 Jul 2022 05:39:39
My gran could replace Maguire and she has been dead 45 years!
26 May 2024 10:38:06
I think the club need to back ten hag he didn’t really have a good transfer window last summer and quality in depth is rubbish when we have injuries to the starting 11 I hope he is given more time two trophies in two years isn’t bad be nice to build on it with the right transfers this summer.
02 Aug 2022 21:23:30
I don’t think Fred has done bad pre season also Martinez looks very good I think him and Maguire will be partners. I’m not convinced varane is the answer either we need a top quality CB to partner Martinez.
20 Jul 2022 22:45:48
I prefer a fluid front 3 too! I think keeping Ronaldo is a setback and will prevent this from happening. I think he's gone the wrong way about things and now has done too much damage to come back.
06 Jul 2022 22:22:34
Thanks Ed hopefully we get this one in the bag.
30 Jun 2022 20:15:36
Gutted! Thanks for the reply.
31 Aug 2025 19:04:46
