Hi eds, wondering if one of you can clarify if there's actually any truth in the Nani back to United rumours? Tried using the search function but couldn't find anything other than people saying how bad a move it'd be lol. Personally I'd be glad to have him back, I thought selling him was a mistake at the time. Every time I turn on MUTV he's on there with assists and goals in replays of old games! I know he had some inconsistencies as times, but when he actually played runs of games he was quality IMO.

Gameasabadger

{Ed004's Note - I think he looks like he is heading to Inter for next season}

1.) 17 jun 2016 10:50:54
he's better than memphis and any right sided option as have. i never wanted him gone in the first place.

2.) 17 Jun 2016 12:47:21
He's garbage. there's a million different Wingers I'd take before Nani was bought back. 1 good game in 15 isn't and will never be good enough.

3.) 17 Jun 2016 14:13:40
Its amazing how much better a player is when he's not played for you for a while, Nani was and still is one of the most frustrating footballers, the reason you see so many goals and assists is because he was a match of the day type player, every now and again he would smash one in from 40 yards, but the rest of the time he was useless.

or a while he had 1 good game in 3 which was ok but his bad games are really bad. By the end, as Stand says, he was 1 good game in 15 and had to leave when he did.

4.) 17 Jun 2016 14:32:47
Ounas looks like the perfect buy for us. Left sided right winger, has lots of pace, and is only 19. Would rather get him than nani.

5.) 17 Jun 2016 19:38:29
Nani was quality for us and would walk into our team right now.

6.) 18 Jun 2016 18:52:47
I agree with GDS2.

Nani is a classic highlights reel player.

If you watch a highlights reel (or youtube video these days) he looks incredible. That is because his best moments really are brilliant, but those videos only show the best bits, you don't see the rest, and the rest with Nani tended to be dire.

Hi Ed, sorry if it's already been answered, used the search function but could only find snippets of conversation and no definitive answer.

Do United hold any significant interest in Lukaku and if so, could a deal be done in January? I assume if there is any chance, summer would be more likely, but you never know. Thanks in advance.

Gameasabadger

{Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware, nothing will be happening with him in January, but, unless Everton start picking up their form and climbing the table, he will be considering his future in the summer. The Euros will mean the players most likely to move are those not playing regularly.}

1.) 01 Jan 2016 12:54:25
I seem to recall there was some sort of issue with Lukaku a few years back. Eds weren't specific but it inferred there was an issue with Lukaku's attitude maybe hence he wasn't going to get first team opportunities at Chelsea. I for one was surprised when he moved on. A beast physically and good technique. And Belgian (Happy New Year btw Ronnie ;) ) . I think he would be a good addition though is no longer the stellar signing that when he first came on the scene it was suggested he could be.

If we are a world class moneymaking business it's about time we invested in a proven world class striker.

{Ed002's Note - It was nothing to do with attitude, but immediately the club were aware of what happened it was the end of his Chelsea career and he was gone.}

Eds or anyone else, wonder if you can clear a couple of things up? Sorry if any of them have already been answered.

A few days ago there were reports that Timothy Fosu Mensah was having his medical. I thought that was as good as a done deal but not heard anything else about it. Is this still on or not?

Also, is there still any chance of us signing Martin Odegaard today? Some were talking as if this was also a done deal, although as far as i'm aware it had all been rumours so far?

Many thanks and cheers for all the info so far today.

Gameasabadger

{Ed002's Note - (a) No. (b) No.}

1.) Hi Ed's, in particular Ed0002, thank for your input, insights and as usual cutting comments, until the next window.

{Ed002's Note - Thanks.}

2.) Looks like Mensah deal did go ahead in the end. this from manutd.com;

"Manchester United agreed a deal to sign Timothy Fosu-Mensah from Ajax ahead of the transfer deadline.

The 16-year-old is a powerful defender who caught the eye at the AEGON Future Cup and is highly regarded in his homeland.

Fosu-Mensah still requires an International Transfer Certificate to be processed in order to make his debut for Paul McGuinness' Academy squad, but his versatility and ability mark him out as an excellent addition for the Reds."

Sky sports news reporting that evra to juventus deal should be completed today.

Gameasabadger

1.) Is he moving because he fears Shaw will be the 1st choice LB? or is it more a sweetener for Vidal?

2.) He's moving because HE wants to move. MU wanted to keep him for one more season.

3.) What do you mean because he fears shaw will be first choice left back? I think he knows fine well he will be be, he was one of our worst performers last year and shaw was probably the best left back in the league. you don't spend over 30mil on a left back for him not to be first choice.

4.) He must of known shaw was coming in, why sign a contract knowing that?

5.) MS85 he did not sign a new deal. man utd activated a clause

6.) MU activated a clause in his deal to extend it by a year. He didn't and still doesn't want to stay. The difference is Juve will not get him for free, they will need to pay a couple million for him. We did the same with Berbatov.

7.) Ah ok my bad. Didn't realise a clause was activated.

8.) I believe Evra was told he would be behind Shaw in the pecking order

Official statement from Utd website -

"Manchester United is delighted to announce that, after triggering the buy-out clause in his contract on Tuesday, it has signed Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Club in Bilbao, pending the receipt of the International Transfer Certificate. He joins on a four-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year."

1.) Was reading a crap from Telegraph saying Bilbao rejected the bid! Would've liked Fabregas, but Still a very decent player. Very pleased indeed with not too late action from LVG and the board.

I can't believe that we haven't gone in for Lacazette. I've seriously lost all faith in our transfer policy and i'm not just talking about this window as I know it's early days, but since Woodward took over dealing with transfers I can't believe some of the top players our rivals have signed over us.

Sanchez, Ozil, Kante, Pedro, Fabregas, Silva, Sane, De Bruyne and even the likes of alli, alderwiereld, wanyama etc.

I know we can't sign everyone but I just don't understand why we let some of these slip through the net. It's well known that we're in the market for a striker and Lacazette is (was) available yet we allow Arsenal a free run at him while we seem to be putting all our eggs in one basket and I'm very concerned that once again we'll be left red faced. Maybe I'm wrong and he won't handle the PL as well as the french league, but I wouldn't bet against him being in the running for top scorer in the league this season. He's exactly the sort of player we need in my opinion and if Arsenal manage to hang on to Sanchez they're going to be a real attacking force this year. I'm dreading the thought of another goal shy season and really hoping Woody is going to prove me wrong. Can't see how we're going to challenge for the title unless we make some quality attacking additions and preferably soon so that they can get a proper pre-season under their belt.

Gameasabadger

1.) 05 Jul 2017 11:12:58
Last season we signed German League's Player of the Season, French league's best player and Seira A's as well. Bring back your faith.

2.) 05 Jul 2017 11:28:41
I'm throwing in the towel, even if Jose doesn't want the player, we should at least be bidding.

3.) 05 Jul 2017 11:39:15
Admittedly last transfer window was good, probably the best in a while. But I'm still sore from the previous windows where Woody failed to deliver. I guess a lot of that was probably down to management and I have more faith in JM's ability to choose transfers wisely than LVG or Moyes, I just don't have faith in Woody considering some of the transfers we've missed out on. He's undoubtedly amazing at striking commercial deals and bringing money in to the club, but I feel we'd be much better served with someone else in charge of transfer dealings.

4.) 05 Jul 2017 11:41:22
Why is this a criticism of Woodward. He gets his list from the manager and does what he can. He is an easy target because of our impatience as fans.
Remember we are also criticising him for overpaying for players which due to foreign players desire to be in London we may have to.
Just relax. All will get sorted.

5.) 05 Jul 2017 11:59:10
What makes you think La cazzette will be special? i think Geroud is better BTW.

6.) 05 Jul 2017 12:05:00
You sound exactly like the spoiled brats that other fans like to call us.

7.) 05 Jul 2017 12:10:07
Let's buy everyone so no one else can have anyone!

Why would we be in for Lacazette? He's a similar striker to Rashford and Martial. I don't think he is that brilliant, he wouldn't of been at Lyon for this long.

8.) 05 Jul 2017 12:32:10
I was thinking about this the other day, and this seems like an appropriate post to share my idea. I think we should get rid of our scouting team totally. Imagine the money we would save doing that! We could then just concentrate on bidding for players that other teams are trying to buy, as they are obviously exactly what we need. Who's with me?

9.) 05 Jul 2017 13:00:06
Brendan. that's good. Lol.

10.) 05 Jul 2017 13:16:46
Brendan is that not what City have done already.

11.) 05 Jul 2017 13:37:14
Fresh - I quite clearly said that I know we can't buy everyone, I was merely listing those players as examples of some of the players that I think could have improved us. I like Lacazette a lot and think he's more clinical than rashford/ martial, although I do see your point about him being too similar to them.

Brad - you're probably right, it is my impatience that leads me to criticise Woodward, but also that I don't think our business has been great while he's been in charge of transfers. But I suppose there's more to it behind the scenes and you're right that he's an easy target. Maybe it isn't his fault that we seem to pay over the odds.

My main point was meant to be that since Fergie/ Gill left, I don't think our business has been good in comparison to our rivals, but maybe I've worded it badly in my original post judging by some of your sarcastic comments and being called a spoiled brat. If you think our business has been good then obviously we have different views on what is good business.

12.) 05 Jul 2017 13:46:45
When we initially signed Di Maria, Falcao, Shaw we were also very excited. These also happened under Woodward. Granted they did not pan out (still have a shred of hope that Shaw will) but I think as a whole Woodward has shown he is able to attract big names to United even if they haven't necessarily been outstanding once they got here.

13.) 05 Jul 2017 16:51:30
You must be forgetting the large amount of dross we signed under Fergie and Gill towards the end.

14.) 05 Jul 2017 21:00:56
for all we know, deals could be completed ages ago but not made public.

30 Jun 2016 16:10:35
Zlatan just announced on twitter that he's joining us.

Gameasabadger

1.) 30 Jun 2016 16:39:28
he is not joining us, we would have announced that. We are joinng him, that is why he announced it.

2.) 30 Jun 2016 16:51:46
Did he buy the club because he wants to play for us? :)

3.) 30 Jun 2016 17:08:47
Love it csm 😂.

29 Jun 2014 00:45:10
Does anybody know anything about what's happening with anderson? I've heard Fiorentina are unlikely to make the move permanent. Is anyone else interested, or will we be stuck paying his wages for another year? Also, he only has a year left on his contract and it'd be a shame to end up getting no money back for him.

Gameasabadger

1.) According to Tim Vickery, he & his agent were trying to set up a move to Santos. No idea how that's going, though.

Chong and Gomes minutes this season

Chong
68’ vs Astana
20’ vs Leicester
4’ vs Newcastle
60’ vs Rotherham

Gomes
68’ vs Astana
90’ vs Alkmaar
9’ vs West Ham

I fail to see how either player can really be said to have been given a proper chance to show what they can do. You can’t expect young lads to instantly replicate their form from the youth team the second they step on the pitch, otherwise write them off. Neither player has been given a proper chance and to lose either on a free will be a massive shame. Meanwhile everyone’s praying we snap up sancho for £100m who left city for the exact same reason. We’ve shown no faith in either of these two and I wouldn’t be surprised if the lack of minutes is actually due to not having their contracts sorted. They’ve both shown plenty for the reserves to have been given more game time than they have been. The fact is their contracts should’ve been wrapped up long ago, but we’re run by amateurs and now in a stand off of not playing them while their future is uncertain and them not being convinced of signing while not being shown any faith. If they both had another year on their contracts, I guarantee they’d have been playing more. We’re blatantly trying to save face in case we lose them on a free and all the people on here writing them off all of a sudden need to wake up and start holding the club accountable. If Chong and/ or Gomes go elsewhere, I’d be very surprised if we’re not linked with them again for a huge fee in a few seasons. It’s the same story over and over again. For all the supposed chances we give to youth, we seem to let plenty go elsewhere who end up being good enough, just as we seem to hang on to plenty who end up being mediocre squad players for us. Having high ambitions is a good thing, but people call it impatience. Maybe if we did everything we can to hold on to those “impatient” players instead of the “patient” ones, aka those lacking ambition and happy to sit on the bench until they’re 23/ 24 before being given a real chance, then maybe we’d have better academy graduates in our first team right now than the likes of Lingard and Pereira.

I want rid of Mourinho probably more than any fan I know. I’m also sick of woodward seeming only interested in commercial deals and I think we need someone else dealing with transfers. But wishing bad on the club in the hope we get rid of them? I don’t think that’s something any true supporter would ever do.

People having an opinion on a player hardly means "the pitchforks are out" or the player is being "slated" or that the people saying it are "boo boys"

I'm not a matic fan. Would rather have signed someone else. Will I support him? Of course, he's now a united player and I sincerely hope he changes my opinion of him. No pitch forks or booing here, but it doesn't change the fact he's not my cup of tea. People are allowed a different opinion.

How dare he take the break he’s entitled to in his contract!

Say what you want about his performances but fact is we’re worse when he’s not in the side. His performances are criticised so heavily because of his price. If he’d cost 20m everyone would be saying how amazing he is. Deny that if you want but I’ll still believe the same.

As for him being unhappy and not committed, I’d probably be the same if I had to deal with Jose. Pogba will go elsewhere and be great, same as Martial.

Being negative about a potential signing isn't the same as writing off a new signing. He hasn't signed for us yet and I hope he doesn't. But if he does, I'll keep an open mind, support the player and hope he proves my initial thoughts wrong.

I'm a huge fan of neymar and was gutted to hear we weren't in for him as well. But I wouldn't swap him for those 3. Pogba is the best midfielder in the world for me and he'll show it this season. However I would swap the 3 transfers we've done THIS window for him, Lukaku, Matic and and Lindelof. I know that those were positions that needed filling, but I've always wanted neymar to play for us.

Schmid, I'd rather keep shaw than sign aurier. Shaw has the natural ability to be one of the best in the world. The only problem is his injury record and apparent poor attitude. There were signs towards the end of the season that something had clicked and his attitude may no longer be a problem. So with a bit of luck he can get an injury free run and fulfil his potential. By all accounts aurier doesn't have the best attitude himself and any player can suddenly get one big injury that sparks another and another and another. So I don't think he'd be a better player to have personally.
