I was wondering how easy some of our supporters think it is to complete a transfer? I am no expert and presume that those on frees are simple, you just agree terms with the player and that's it. I can also presume that those that hand in a request are a bit easier, in that you approach the club for permission to talk to the player and if they want to sell they grant it and you agree terms with both the player and selling club. It has to be so hard with a club who don't want to sell, you can approach and make an offer, they can accept or decline your offer, you then have to speak to the player and his bloody agent and agree terms. Most players we are after I think have not handed in requests to leave, so it becomes a long bargaining session to see if you can meet the selling clubs valuation and also agree terms with a player? I think I am right Ed 002 will probably tell me I am mad

Cantonas seagull friend

{Ed002's Note - it is not like that for those “Frees”

1.) 17 Jul 2019 18:42:23
Thanks, how hard is it for those out of contract and on a "free"? I only ask as some people on here are demanding to know why and when we are signing players without knowing what it actually takes.

{Ed002's Note - Stuff like this needs to happen and plenty of payments need to be made.
(a) Paperwork including obtaining International Clearance and Work Permits if necessary.
(b) Any levy applied by the local FA – 5% for the Premier League. This eill be based on the assigned value of the transfer fee.
(c) Tax due on the assigned value of the transfer fee – typically this will be VAT (at varying rates across Europe) some or all of which should be reclaimable.
(d) Agent fees – this may be to one or more agents (as an example, Liverpool spent £44M plus VAT on agent fees (nearly double the next highest) last season alone).
(e) Tax due on the agent fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the agent bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(f) Intermediary fees – this may be to one or more sponging leeches (what do you mean you have a super agent?) .
(g) Tax due on the Intermediary fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the Intermediary bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(h) Signing on fee to the player (possibly including non-reclaimable VAT if the player is VAT registered).
(i) Legal fees.
(j) VAT on legal fees which is reclaimable.
(k) Moving/relocation costs for the player.
(l) VAT on moving/relocation costs which is reclaimable.
(m) Solidarity and Training Contributions (this can be significant payments paid based on the assigned transfer fee to clubs you may never of heard of).
(n) Paying up insurance costs to the selling club (usually waived).}

2.) 17 Jul 2019 19:43:04
Are there any decent football documentaries showing behind the scenes of a transfer. Geeky I know but I would find it fascinating to watch.

{Ed002's Note - Quite frankly, of course not.}

3.) 17 Jul 2019 19:43:49
Thanks Ed002, now some of our supporters may see the reason why we have just not signed a player.

{Ed002's Note - To be fair they are far from the brightest.}

4.) 17 Jul 2019 20:31:11
And some people think you are a journalist 😂.

{Ed002's Note - Many say I am a simple singer songwriter that came out of Laurel Canyon in the early 70s. Others say, I played for Arsenal, Everton and Millwall before a successful career in the Medical Law (specialising in left knees). Some even say it was my fadget design that was used in the patent for tentafere that led to air traffic control over Lake Havasu City being lost for 40 minutes on Christmas Eve 2014. Many finally figured out I am a tubby kid from Bolton.}

5.) 17 Jul 2019 21:43:11
Ed002, if they read this they might shut up about asking about player x and y?

{Ed002's Note - I think Player Y will sign Friday.}

6.) 17 Jul 2019 21:51:32
You‘re asking for trouble there Ed 😂

Thanks a lot for the insight.

7.) 17 Jul 2019 21:56:24
oh, I had player Y as Bale, you sure it's not X?

8.) 17 Jul 2019 22:32:51
I have now worked out the identity of Ed 002 and the truth is stranger than fiction. We are so so lucky. Thanks Ed.

9.) 18 Jul 2019 11:57:57
It's Peter kaye!

10.) 18 Jul 2019 17:01:35
I was wondering how easy some of our supporters think it is to complete a transfer?

not as easy as the fifa players and football manager people think but still slightly alarmed that Barcelona can get Griezmann, Real can get Hazard, militao, Mendy and jovic, West ham can get Haller and we can't get a kid from Newcastle despite the fact he would sell his own nan for a fiver lol

Greenwood and Chong are looking decent though so maybe we don't need lots of new signings.

11.) 18 Jul 2019 21:14:03
When I read Ed02's juicier responses I immediately think of him as a middle aged female librarian on HRT and wondering where her life has gone. 💋💋💋.

{Ed002's Note - Obviously I don’t ride a Vincent HRT. I have a Vincent Black Lightning 1952.}

12.) 18 Jul 2019 21:46:23
I thought that was a marital aid.

{Ed002's Note - Sure great for picking up ginger haired chicks.}

13.) 19 Jul 2019 11:38:40
Looked up Laurel Canyon Ed - sure was a crazy time late 60s/ early 70s! Did you get to hang with Crosby, Stills, Nash, Joplin etc?!

{Ed002's Note - I was there with my girlfriend for the lost summer of 1974 in the Hollywood Hills with the Source Family and then in Laurel Canyon.}

14.) 19 Jul 2019 13:48:36
Thanks Ed002: I've just read about the Source family, Father Yod, Yahowa 13 - and much more - and, as Seagull alludes to above, that's some life you've experienced so far. We really are lucky to have you on this site; I've no doubt that every minute of your time is precious. Would be intrigued to know how you've ended up being so omniscient about all football matters though - surely the capitalist market forces that fuel the rivers of money involved in the game - plus the instant gratification culture that drives both players and fans - contradict the Source family/ Laurel Canyon beliefs about life? (Please forgive me for this rhetorical question - just really fascinated by all the things I've read! )

{Ed002's Note - The Canyon was very laid back for the few months we were there but a lot of folks were pretty strung out. The Source Family were preparing to head for pastures new and the restaurant was attracting a lot of vagrants (we had nothing to do with the restaurant). There was a lot of music being recorded at the time by the Source Family and Father Yod’s daughter was born when we were there. There were a huge number of tapes recorded but I don’t know what happened to them.}

15.) 19 Jul 2019 15:21:51
Thanks for sharing your fascinating life Ed002. Looks like the Source family headed off to a mixed reception in Hawaii! The restaurant looks like it was the place to be though. The music seems really eclectic and, maybe under another more established name such as Jefferson Airplane, would have gained more commercial success. Shame so much was lost. Thanks again for sharing Ed - much more interesting than surviving the jungle that is comprehensive school everyday here in the UK!

{Ed002's Note - Currently flying over the Med. I originally came to England to do a masters degree in London. I know some of the albums have been re-issued.}

2.) 11 Jun 2019 09:47:03
9 years out of date. lol.

3.) 11 Jun 2019 12:37:59
Is that in seagull years shappy?

15 Dec 2018 14:59:46
Not sure if Barcelona are after Pogba or ever were, but could a swap deal with Dembele be done?

Cantonas seagull friend

{Ed025's Note - swap deals very seldom happen im afraid CSF,,

1.) 15 Dec 2018 15:35:45
Was the Mina and Gomes swap for Pogba last summer bull?

{Ed025's Note - probably mate, i would imagine agents would frown upon it as they would lose their cut of the transfer fee..

2.) 15 Dec 2018 15:59:41
Given the stories of dembeles attitude why swap one disruptive influence for another?

3.) 15 Dec 2018 23:18:51
Dembele seems like childsplay compared to Pogba. I’d swap the two for toffee.

06 Dec 2018 18:30:37
Any chance we will go for Robben, Ribery and Sneijder in January?

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 06 Dec 2018 18:48:55
nah i think they are trying to get Cantona, Pallister and Robson.

2.) 06 Dec 2018 20:14:23
Ronaldinho minimum.

3.) 06 Dec 2018 20:32:58
Charlton is still in the stands, maybe him, Bruce and Yorke would help.

4.) 07 Dec 2018 10:09:58
You spelt Schnyder wrong, mate.

5.) 07 Dec 2018 19:46:38
Same fantastic player however you spell it.
Sign him we'll learn to spell it eventually - I am so excited I getting ready by going to night class.

6.) 07 Dec 2018 20:10:28
Don't forget Gaitan; also on the list.

7.) 08 Dec 2018 07:14:35
All these players are now well into their 30's, which probably means they have now become the first choice targets under our current manager. 😂😂😂.

8.) 08 Dec 2018 20:36:23
Thanks for the clarity Shappy, kinda what i was getting at.

9.) 09 Dec 2018 12:24:43
Who could forget Ezequiel Garay at cb.

10.) 10 Dec 2018 10:08:57
In advanced talks with strootman.

11.) 10 Dec 2018 17:42:02
Gaitans testimonial soon.

Just read on Manchester United Updates on Facebook that we have an interest in Valencias Carlos SOLER. Any of the Eds know him and know if rumour has any legs?

Cantonas seagull friend

{Ed002's Note - I have dealt with this several times and on the Sharkopod.}

1.) 20 Nov 2017 17:57:53
There is an interest as CM option, its possible but very expensive, and he is not the first choice, per Ed002.

2.) 21 Nov 2017 00:17:28
First choice being Milinkovic Savic at Lazio, If I recall correctly.

3.) 21 Nov 2017 07:38:40
Can anyone of you describe those two for me? What their playstyle is like etc.? Who would you prefer if you could chose? I have never seen them play. Thanks.

4.) 21 Nov 2017 08:53:12
Carlos Soler is technically good with very good passing and dribbling ability, able to pick spaces and drive the pass foward and very versatile, he sees and executes the final ball really well and is also a decent scorer. He can play as CM or RW, he prefers CM position.

Segej Milinkovic Savic, like Soler is technically better, physically dominant, can dribble, scores goals and versatile, but his passing ability not good as of Carlos Soler.

5.) 21 Nov 2017 17:02:45
Thanks, kenedyandy.

29 Nov 2019 11:30:08
So Poch goes, now Emery, are they brave to sack managers? Should we do the same or carry on with OLE? Neither Spurs or Arsenal are much better than us at the moment.

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 29 Nov 2019 12:04:24
Both probably have a better squad, and both had lost the dressing room.

2.) 29 Nov 2019 12:21:57
Depends what the expectations are.

Spurs have been champions league regulars over the pst 5/ 6 years and expect to be in the top 4 at least and had a proven manager to replace poch.

Arsenal spent big in the summer and expected to be challenging for the top 4 and there were no signs of progress under emery. Rumours of max allegri so again another proven replacement.

We seem to be happy persisting with ole and this long term approach with the young team we have. Realistically without pogba i don't think this squad is anywhere near good enough to make the top 4.

If the club were clever they would be talking to poch now in view of getting him in summer and hope ole stumbles his way to winning the europa league, which means the new manager will both the resources and pull of top level football to attract proper football players (not freds basically) .

3.) 29 Nov 2019 12:39:41
Absolutely no point sacking Ole if there's not a long term plan in place. Reactionary short-term thinking has continually got us into this mess.

4.) 29 Nov 2019 12:51:03
Yes. The decision makers may have learnt their lessons.
Should look towards long term vision.

5.) 29 Nov 2019 15:38:58
That's the thing though Shappy. Both Poch and Emery had lost the dressing room. Like Jose did 12 months ago. Ole hasn't. There's a couple in there he hasn't got with him but I expect them to be gone. One in 6 weeks and the other in 6 months.

6.) 29 Nov 2019 18:18:06
I wonder how and why Poch lost the dressing room? They should have come back to preseason wanting more of what they achieved last season. I can't remember the last Spurs manager to take them this far. Levy should be backing him and getting rid of the bad apples, just like we should have got shot of Pogba.

7.) 29 Nov 2019 20:39:02
i am no ole fan and still think we should of waited until the summer before appointing anybody. if he wins the europa wich i don't think we will. he then deseres to stay.

8.) 29 Nov 2019 21:43:11
The club are standing by ole and i don't expect that to change unless we don't pick up points and things get worse.
Next 4 league games are villa city spurs Everton. Another opportunity to try and build some momentum. We have done well against Liverpool and Chelsea so beating spurs and city would really give them confidence and momentum.

9.) 29 Nov 2019 22:04:13
I don't know why we keep on dithering. Just cut straight to the point where we thank him for his service and actually get in a proper manager.

05 Nov 2019 17:52:56
The term reckless is what is right about the challenge. In law if you throw a big rock at a car, not intending to damage it but you smash a window you are reckless. You should have thought what may happen by committing the throw. Same as the tackle, Son didn't mean to break his ankle, but should have known that making the rash challenge was reckless and he may cause injury. Red card all day long.

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 05 Nov 2019 19:32:21
There was no intention to cause injury and in this case it was not just the actual foul but how Gomes landed and twisted after it that contributed to the severity of the injury. Could you reasonably foresee such a bad injury from that challenge? I would argue that 99 times out of a hundred it would not have happened. Compare that challenge to one where a player flies in to a challenge off the ground high and two footed and there is clearly a high risk of injury to the opponent. The latter case deserves a red case. Son's in my opinion does not.

2.) 06 Nov 2019 06:52:00
What crazy law allows people to throw rocks at car?

Tackling in football is legal unlike throwing rocks at car which isn't ( i hope), just because an injury resulted from it doesn't make it an illegal tackle. Son's tackle was not reckless enough to be viewed as one meant to deliberately cause injury so not a red card whatever the end result of the tackle.

3.) 06 Nov 2019 09:51:47
I think the issue was that Son thought he should have been given a foul then he went in with a reactionary tackle that resulted in a serious injury. I think that is why he was so upset, he knew he didn't need to make that tackle but he did out of spite.

I agree it wasn't the worst tackle you see, and the way the player fell is what caused the injury.

For me though it brings about a bigger issue. Is "professional fouling" acceptable and should it be punished more severely?

It's used quite specifically by some coaches, cough Pep cough, as a way of defending. It allows a team to push higher safe in the knowledge that if they lose the ball they will just commit a foul to give them time to get back behind the ball.

Intentionally committing fouls which could lead to injury is poor sportsmanship at best, cynically bending the rules at worst.

Something needs to change or we will keep seeing preventable injuries.

4.) 06 Nov 2019 21:54:52
Never a red.

5.) 07 Nov 2019 11:10:37
James, under current laws its not. However, should a player be allowed to deliberately foul a fellow professional (which can lead to serious injury, intentional or not) to be just a yellow card?

let's change the wording to professional dive for when a player is anticipating foul so they go down.

That's cheating. In my eyes intentionally breaking the rules and fouling a player to stop a potential goal only to receive a yellow card at most is also giving a side an unfair advantage.

It's a key tactic to Man City's defending. Press high, over commit both full backs to create overloads and peg the opposition back, then if they break on the counter bring them down, take the yellow card and get men behind the ball for when the free kick is taken.

Pep calls it a tactical foul. Call it what it is, cheating. They need to increase the punishment somehow to fit the crime. As its taking the competitive edge away from football. Smaller teams can't challenge the bigger teams as the only real tactic they have is to hit them on the counter, if that is taken away from them then they can't challenge them at all.

20 Oct 2019 15:24:32
I can't be the only one who thinks we will win about 4 - 0 today, we have the players to cause them all sorts of problems, the Scouse back 4 will be run ragged. Oh hold on, it's my nurse, she says I need to take my medication now.

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 20 Oct 2019 16:12:27
The only we would win would be if I was playing as Utd on FiFa hahaha.

07 Aug 2019 14:20:48
Fernando Llorente on a free as he was released by Spurs, is he good enough if Lukaku leaves?

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 07 Aug 2019 15:08:13
No.
Especially for the fast attacking style Ole wants to play this season.

2.) 07 Aug 2019 15:13:52
Is this a trick question or is the answer as obvious as hell no?

3.) 07 Aug 2019 15:16:18
Why? We don't want spurs cast offs.

4.) 07 Aug 2019 15:19:52
I'm not asking, I read it.

5.) 07 Aug 2019 15:31:37
Is eriksen not a spurs cast off?

6.) 07 Aug 2019 15:38:04
Reads very much like a question to me.

7.) 07 Aug 2019 15:38:16
He’s not good enough for my Sunday morning side, so no.

8.) 07 Aug 2019 15:50:37
The question mark at the end was the hint.

9.) 07 Aug 2019 16:17:10
Ken, Eriksen is not a Spurs cast off. He's a player who rejected their contract offrr so he could move to a better club.

10.) 07 Aug 2019 16:48:40
Ken. No Erijsen isn't a cast off. Spurs apparently would give him a new contract if they could. He wants to be elsewhere.

11.) 07 Aug 2019 17:34:45
Madrid apparently DW20.

12.) 07 Aug 2019 18:20:44
Hands up, I'm wrong. It was supposed to be a statement. Then question, not one big question.

Who thought that OLE was the right person to manage United? He was rubbish at Cardiff and OK at Molde. We ha e had LVG and Mourinho who are massive managers in their own right, how was OLE going to be better It was a knee jerk reaction and he should have had until the end of the season as acting, while those in charge actually used the time to get the right person. Now we will probably sack him and make another mistake. Time now is to keep him until the summer and tell whoever (Poch), to tell us his vision and make moves to get the players he might want?

Loads of people moaned that United got the decisions by refs, now we have VAR and it changes refs decisions. UNITED won what they did under a refs decision be it right or wrong. Wish it was the same, that way nobody can blame outside interference in any way.

Shappy, I think we will continue how we are this season with James and maybe Dalot as cover. The number 10 slot can be taken by Pogba, with Lingard and Mata as cover. I would personally like another DCM and let Matic go in January. The defence has enough cover on the left and right. If we go for a first team CB then I can see Lindelof leaving and we will be in the same place. Sell Matic and Jones/ Rojo and spend on that CDM and if and when Pogba leaves, get the AM and RW.
