I'm reading of some sort of swap deal involving Sanchez and Perisic. Any Eds have a clue?

Cantonas seagull friend

{Ed002's Note - That would make no sense.}

1.) 28 Jul 2020 04:55:42
Sanchez and skrinier swap makes full sense.

2.) 28 Jul 2020 08:04:53
Not for Inter it doesn’t. We need to get Sanchez off the books as his massive wages are a burden on the club. I doubt we’ll be asking for a large fee (if any fee at all) and will be looking to get rid of him whilst paying him as little as possible. Why would Inter give us one of their best players in exchange for a player who we would probably give away for nothing if push came to shove?

3.) 28 Jul 2020 10:48:05
Do you have any insight here, Ed002?
The press are saying Inter are serious about signing him and he is willing to take a pay cut, but Inter would still need United to help with wages?!
Is that true? Has that ever happened before?

Thanks a lot!

{Ed002's Note - Alexis Sanchez (LW/F) Inter were cooling a little over keeping him but he has agreed to take a significant cut in his financial demands. Inter will look to use players in part exchange which I doubt would suit Manchetser United who will look to a cash sale for a reasonably small amount.}

4.) 28 Jul 2020 23:55:10
Dare I say man utd are taking a sensible view on this one considering they are happy to take a small amount as a fee?

Rumours of Haaland to Juve.

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 24 Dec 2019 15:37:20
Apart from Haaland, some Juventus fans believe they might also sign Pogba in January.
Typical Raiola.

2.) 24 Dec 2019 21:47:39
Tuttosport rumoured to be running the story now, not checked myslef.

3.) 28 Dec 2019 12:12:12
Apparantly the Haaland rumours were a smokescreen for someone else.

I hope we don't pass up the chance on young talent and end up with an aged player like Mandzukic.

4.) 28 Dec 2019 13:59:15
Haaland agrees to join Zebre ala Juve
At a bargain 27mill.

I was wondering how easy some of our supporters think it is to complete a transfer? I am no expert and presume that those on frees are simple, you just agree terms with the player and that's it. I can also presume that those that hand in a request are a bit easier, in that you approach the club for permission to talk to the player and if they want to sell they grant it and you agree terms with both the player and selling club. It has to be so hard with a club who don't want to sell, you can approach and make an offer, they can accept or decline your offer, you then have to speak to the player and his bloody agent and agree terms. Most players we are after I think have not handed in requests to leave, so it becomes a long bargaining session to see if you can meet the selling clubs valuation and also agree terms with a player? I think I am right Ed 002 will probably tell me I am mad

Cantonas seagull friend

{Ed002's Note - it is not like that for those “Frees”

1.) 17 Jul 2019 18:42:23
Thanks, how hard is it for those out of contract and on a "free"? I only ask as some people on here are demanding to know why and when we are signing players without knowing what it actually takes.

{Ed002's Note - Stuff like this needs to happen and plenty of payments need to be made.
(a) Paperwork including obtaining International Clearance and Work Permits if necessary.
(b) Any levy applied by the local FA – 5% for the Premier League. This eill be based on the assigned value of the transfer fee.
(c) Tax due on the assigned value of the transfer fee – typically this will be VAT (at varying rates across Europe) some or all of which should be reclaimable.
(d) Agent fees – this may be to one or more agents (as an example, Liverpool spent £44M plus VAT on agent fees (nearly double the next highest) last season alone).
(e) Tax due on the agent fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the agent bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(f) Intermediary fees – this may be to one or more sponging leeches (what do you mean you have a super agent?) .
(g) Tax due on the Intermediary fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the Intermediary bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(h) Signing on fee to the player (possibly including non-reclaimable VAT if the player is VAT registered).
(i) Legal fees.
(j) VAT on legal fees which is reclaimable.
(k) Moving/relocation costs for the player.
(l) VAT on moving/relocation costs which is reclaimable.
(m) Solidarity and Training Contributions (this can be significant payments paid based on the assigned transfer fee to clubs you may never of heard of).
(n) Paying up insurance costs to the selling club (usually waived).}

2.) 17 Jul 2019 19:43:04
Are there any decent football documentaries showing behind the scenes of a transfer. Geeky I know but I would find it fascinating to watch.

{Ed002's Note - Quite frankly, of course not.}

3.) 17 Jul 2019 19:43:49
Thanks Ed002, now some of our supporters may see the reason why we have just not signed a player.

{Ed002's Note - To be fair they are far from the brightest.}

4.) 17 Jul 2019 20:31:11
And some people think you are a journalist 😂.

{Ed002's Note - Many say I am a simple singer songwriter that came out of Laurel Canyon in the early 70s. Others say, I played for Arsenal, Everton and Millwall before a successful career in the Medical Law (specialising in left knees). Some even say it was my fadget design that was used in the patent for tentafere that led to air traffic control over Lake Havasu City being lost for 40 minutes on Christmas Eve 2014. Many finally figured out I am a tubby kid from Bolton.}

5.) 17 Jul 2019 21:43:11
Ed002, if they read this they might shut up about asking about player x and y?

{Ed002's Note - I think Player Y will sign Friday.}

6.) 17 Jul 2019 21:51:32
You‘re asking for trouble there Ed 😂

Thanks a lot for the insight.

7.) 17 Jul 2019 21:56:24
oh, I had player Y as Bale, you sure it's not X?

8.) 17 Jul 2019 22:32:51
I have now worked out the identity of Ed 002 and the truth is stranger than fiction. We are so so lucky. Thanks Ed.

9.) 18 Jul 2019 11:57:57
It's Peter kaye!

10.) 18 Jul 2019 17:01:35
I was wondering how easy some of our supporters think it is to complete a transfer?

not as easy as the fifa players and football manager people think but still slightly alarmed that Barcelona can get Griezmann, Real can get Hazard, militao, Mendy and jovic, West ham can get Haller and we can't get a kid from Newcastle despite the fact he would sell his own nan for a fiver lol

Greenwood and Chong are looking decent though so maybe we don't need lots of new signings.

11.) 18 Jul 2019 21:14:03
When I read Ed02's juicier responses I immediately think of him as a middle aged female librarian on HRT and wondering where her life has gone. 💋💋💋.

{Ed002's Note - Obviously I don’t ride a Vincent HRT. I have a Vincent Black Lightning 1952.}

12.) 18 Jul 2019 21:46:23
I thought that was a marital aid.

{Ed002's Note - Sure great for picking up ginger haired chicks.}

13.) 19 Jul 2019 11:38:40
Looked up Laurel Canyon Ed - sure was a crazy time late 60s/ early 70s! Did you get to hang with Crosby, Stills, Nash, Joplin etc?!

{Ed002's Note - I was there with my girlfriend for the lost summer of 1974 in the Hollywood Hills with the Source Family and then in Laurel Canyon.}

14.) 19 Jul 2019 13:48:36
Thanks Ed002: I've just read about the Source family, Father Yod, Yahowa 13 - and much more - and, as Seagull alludes to above, that's some life you've experienced so far. We really are lucky to have you on this site; I've no doubt that every minute of your time is precious. Would be intrigued to know how you've ended up being so omniscient about all football matters though - surely the capitalist market forces that fuel the rivers of money involved in the game - plus the instant gratification culture that drives both players and fans - contradict the Source family/ Laurel Canyon beliefs about life? (Please forgive me for this rhetorical question - just really fascinated by all the things I've read! )

{Ed002's Note - The Canyon was very laid back for the few months we were there but a lot of folks were pretty strung out. The Source Family were preparing to head for pastures new and the restaurant was attracting a lot of vagrants (we had nothing to do with the restaurant). There was a lot of music being recorded at the time by the Source Family and Father Yod’s daughter was born when we were there. There were a huge number of tapes recorded but I don’t know what happened to them.}

15.) 19 Jul 2019 15:21:51
Thanks for sharing your fascinating life Ed002. Looks like the Source family headed off to a mixed reception in Hawaii! The restaurant looks like it was the place to be though. The music seems really eclectic and, maybe under another more established name such as Jefferson Airplane, would have gained more commercial success. Shame so much was lost. Thanks again for sharing Ed - much more interesting than surviving the jungle that is comprehensive school everyday here in the UK!

{Ed002's Note - Currently flying over the Med. I originally came to England to do a masters degree in London. I know some of the albums have been re-issued.}

With Sanchez joining Inter on a free transfer, I presume he will be eligible to play Europa League and if we both get to the final, maybe play against us?

Cantonas seagull friend

{Ed002's Note - No.}

1.) 06 Aug 2020 15:13:45
Sorry, if he is eligible already then nothing changes. }.

2.) 06 Aug 2020 17:08:27
So if he was on loan I presume we would have had a clause about playing against us? Could they have inserted any clauses into the movement of Sanchez, or even Lukaku and Young?

{Ed002's Note - Not playing against the owning club only applies in England. A club cannot put restrictions on players they sell.}

3.) 06 Aug 2020 17:25:05
Oh OK, never knew it was only for UK or England.

4.) 06 Aug 2020 22:00:27
On the the topic of Sanchez -
Adios to the worst signing in the history of our club.

5.) 06 Aug 2020 22:09:13
He can play in the el i understand.

05 Aug 2020 16:46:19
If we don't sign Sancho and go for a loan deal with Coman, would Sancho look at a new deal with Dortmund or will he see out his contract and see if Chelsea come back on for him? I presume if we don't get him this summer it will never happen.

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 05 Aug 2020 17:58:42
Who knows, if we don't get him this summer then if the opportunity arose in the future I'm sure the club will look at it.

On face value the transfer fee, agents fee and wages are exceptionally high. Added in is the fact that he doesn't really want to join us, we could be is a situation similar to the one we find ourselves with Pogba currently. A player wanting out, running down his contract and us facing taking a loss on the player.

I've said it before, there is a real possibility that actually "missing out" on Sancho this summer might be a good thing in the long run.

It could allow Greenwood more game time.

It could allow us to add an extra player or two and improve the quality of the squad.

While we might sign a player who is committed to the club rather than someone who really wants to be somewhere else.

While signing someone else who's wage demands are lower might not cause disharmony in the squad.

2.) 05 Aug 2020 23:04:04
Shappy if we go and sign someone like Chiesa instead that would impact the game time of mason as well. You see tonight we need more quality in this squad, Mason Will still play 40 odd games next season no doubt.

3.) 06 Aug 2020 08:48:32
Caolan, as we saw with the signing of Sanchez, when you bring in a high profile player it is much harder to drop them for a young player even if that young player is performing better than the high profile player.

Both Rashford and Martial saw a drop in game time while Sanchez flopped about in the first 11.

The difference in signing someone like Sancho for over 100m and making him one of our top earners and signing someone like Chiesa for 50m is that there is much less spotlight on Chiesa than Sancho.

You can imagine the press if Sancho is struggling, the pressure, if the manager then drops him the press go full out waste of money, massive transfer mistake, most expensive flop in history.

Which makes it very hard to drop him and give minutes to Greenwood.

While whoever we sign will impact the number of minutes Greenwood will likely get next season, you have to appreciate some signings will take more minutes away from him than others.

4.) 06 Aug 2020 09:34:26
I can’t say that I understand the logic of us not signing a player because they didn’t dream of playing for us when they were a kid.

Players like Drogba, Lampard, Torres, Suarez, Silva and Aguero probably didn’t dream of playing for Chelsea, Liverpool and City when they were younger and probably would have chosen ‘bigger’ clubs (to be clear here, I mean in terms of how successful they were at the time when they signed rather than history) had they had the chance - yet those signings all turned out okay for their clubs. Heck, if Real had come in for Ronaldo when we were first chasing him, do you really think he would have chosen us over them? As recently as a few months ago, Werner would have preferred a move to Liverpool, but I don’t see anybody claiming that Chelsea have made a mistake by snapping him up (quite the contrary) .

If Sancho really doesn’t want to play for us then I agree that we shouldn’t pursue him, but if that were the case, he likely wouldn’t even be entertaining the idea.

Sure, there are examples where these type of signings haven’t worked out, but assuming we sign him, I think he will be hugely successful with us providing he gives us his all (which I’ve no reason to doubt that he will) .

29 Jul 2020 17:07:26
Torres, a player Edd02 has spoken about looks close to a City transfer for £25 million, would he not have been an ideal candidate for RW?

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 29 Jul 2020 17:20:57
Funny how city always seem to grab a decent player at a decent price. it’s almost as if the people doing their scouting/ negotiating are competent at their jobs.

2.) 29 Jul 2020 17:53:03
Same with Chelsea Tim. The cost of not having competent people is ridiculous. Everyone knows we are rubbish at negotiating and can afford to pay top dollar so pull our pants down.

3.) 29 Jul 2020 17:36:11
Or maybe that's what thwy want for him?

I'm sure if city was in for sancho he would cost them exact the same as what United need to pay.

4.) 29 Jul 2020 19:09:06
Im with Bolger on this one.

5.) 30 Jul 2020 06:28:02
Torres is young and quite raw, sancho is leaps ahead at the moment.

6.) 30 Jul 2020 04:16:03
Than my simple question is, Is sancho worth 120m Euros? I mean why United always quoted with this insane figures? Why English youth players are treated as pinnacle of quality in the Market? 23m Euros for Torres is superb, when we were linked, media quoted as 75m. and now that's nit even Half. It shows how foolish our scouting and recruitment dept it.
Or is it like. Cheap player? Not marketable enough. We don't want it.

7.) 30 Jul 2020 10:55:11
Maybe don't believe everything you read in the papers, Rodio. Most of it is bs.

22 Jul 2020 19:20:28
Astounded by a state that Mason is the 4th youngest player to reach 10 Premier League goals, I thought he's got good company, I saw Micheal Owen and Wayne Rooney. It was good to see him up there with them two. The other one is Francis Jeffers. Hope he follows the 1st two.

Cantonas seagull friend

1.) 22 Jul 2020 20:23:23
Franny Jeffers is 40 next year, now I feel old.

2.) 22 Jul 2020 21:14:18
That's because you are old grim.
I know exactly how you feel.

21 Jul 2020 20:32:50
Just for fun and a poll if an Ed fancies it?

Apart from Leeds who are coming up, who is the biggest club not in the Premiership?

Sunderland
Middlesbrough
Forest
Sheff Wed
Blackburn
Other

For me it's Sunderland, massive fan base and OK history. OK not as good a history as Forest.

Cantonas seagull friend

{Ed004's Note - I would probably say Sunderland as well but after the way they celebrated us losing the title on the last day of the season Im not dissapointed theyre done there.}

1.) 21 Jul 2020 21:59:58
Forest for me. Always had a soft spot for them and always gave us a Tough game (8-1 aside)

2.) 21 Jul 2020 22:01:31
Forest for me.

3.) 21 Jul 2020 22:10:17
Forest for me too.

4.) 21 Jul 2020 22:26:27
I hope Leeds go back down. Forest for me.

5.) 21 Jul 2020 23:23:19
Charlton are also a huge club and has disappeared for years.

6.) 21 Jul 2020 23:28:56
Blackburn for me. Former winners of the premier league sways it in their favour.

7.) 22 Jul 2020 00:44:06
Wednesday for me. Had some great players, Des Walker was an absolute joy to watch.

8.) 22 Jul 2020 06:35:41
I'm with Leahycork12.

9.) 22 Jul 2020 07:08:30
Sunderland for me, I guess it's an age dependent question.

Also as above, I hope Leeds get smashed for 4 every week.

10.) 22 Jul 2020 07:13:51
On a different note, what a good job Thomas Frank has done at Brentford since the last turn of the year, could probably get automatic promotion today.

11.) 22 Jul 2020 07:39:42
Forest for me aswell, would like to see Wednesday back up also, I am actually glad Leeds have made it up.

12.) 22 Jul 2020 09:10:31
Welsh I'm from Leeds, a lot of my mates are Leeds fans and they're intolerable at the best of times so for the last few months they've been especially bad.

Also I travel through the city centre a lot and I witnessed some idiot 'fans' throwing bottles and generally being apes in Millennium Square.

Pratts doesn't do it justice, they still live in the days of the Service Crew dragging their knuckles on the floor and screaming about that Beckford goal.

I must admit with that said away days at Elland Road were always the most intimidating with a quality atmosphere and I'm looking forward to that feeling again.

13.) 22 Jul 2020 10:56:35
Great to see Leeds back in the epl.
Great coach.
That said i hope e batter them😂.
