Anyone watch the full game with Forest and Liverpool yesterday? If so how did garner play? I saw the last half hour- well didn't get to watch it clearly as dealing with a teething baby. He seemed to do okay and played a nice ball through when the striker tried to con a pen going round the keeper.

Hope to see him involved next season.

Was he named man of the match?

He looked good and one of the better players on the pitch (on the day) . Reality is that Liverpool were not at their best but should not detract from the fact that he was not out of his depth and played well.
Over the course of the FA Cup this has been the same when they played Leicester.
These past 2 years have been perfect for him and shows the worth of loans to the right club. Garner should be brought back to the club next season and given a spot with the first team. I would not expect him to go straight into the first 11 (assuming we bring in a HM) but should certainly be competing for a place.

I watched the game, what position does he play?

{Ed014's Note - Garner played in midfield, No37, didn’t do a great deal and the big defender was man of the match, he played a few decent passes but didn’t look anything special to be honest.

Friend of mine is a Forest fan, says he is good, but only for a mid table Premier league team (which we might be now) . More like a squad player if you want to win the league.

People who think he is our midfield saviour are disillusioned and clinging to hope he is no better then what we got, I would possibly say Fred and McT are both better, he found his level that’s that, move on

Some on here seem to think we can sign every player and play every kid in the team, this is professional football not a game of subutteo. Showing my age now!

He's done very well at Forest, however it's a big step up to the EPL and especially a club the size of ours. But I think he is worth a shout as a squad option next season.

Pogba will be leaving, Matic might also leave. Will Donny want to stick around or will he look to leave?

That leaves just Fred and McTominay, possibly Donny. Obviously we will look to sign a CDM as well.

Could be two out (Pogba and Matic) and two in (new CDM and Garner) .

Give him a year with the squad and see how he does. He might step up, the new manager might help develop him further. The fact is we probably can't afford to sign half a dozen players this summer, so some of the kids will have to step into the squad and see how they do.

Hannibal is another who could step in with Mata, Lingard and Andreas Pereira leaving.

Thing is football is a team game, stick a player in a better team and you can bring out more in them. Or they can go into their shell. You never know until they get the chance.

Hopefully Garner and DOnny won’t get a chance because if they do, means we are accepting mediocrity again, because come on let’s be honest neither are getting you anywhere near winning a league if you think either of them are good enough that’s where United will be mid table

Be honest guys, Garner ok in lower league, Donny what’s it now 3 managers and showed very little at all, just not suited to English football.

Agree that he looks decent for Forest but the Premier League is a big step up. Ask Norwich and Fulham players how big a step.

Dieter, so how many midfielders do you expect the club to sign this summer?

Pogba will leave, Matic might as well. You'd kick Donny and Garner out as well, and I'm assuming you don't think Fred and McTominay are good enough either?

That's all out midfielders kicked out the door. While I kind of agree that currently none have shown themselves as good enough for where we want to be, we can't expect the club to sign 3-4 midfielders this summer on top of a ST and a CB and a RB and a RW.

Under a new manager maybe Donny and Garner might proven themselves at least good enough for a squad role, maybe more.

It might mean they don't prove up to the task and we replace them in 2023. But the reality is if we sold every player not good enough for a title winning team this summer we'd be kicking out 20 odd players. That just isn't realistic so many who aren't good enough will have to stay.
