I know stats don't paint the whole picture and I get that totally, but sly sports have an article about best defenders and it lists the top 10 for each particular stay eg 'most tackles' 'most assistis' 'most interceptions'.
the only Manchester United player to feature
at all in any of the top tens is Chris smalling, and that's once at number 8 or something for most passes.
Tells you a lot about our games.

Interesting. What team's defenders make the list? We spend a lot of time pointlessly circulating possession which means we generally aren't getting attacked as much as other teams are, so it doesn't surprise me that our defenders don't have the best stats.

These are the exact kind of games you rest certain players for. No disrespect to Middlesbrough and I imagine it's going to be a really tough game but this is great to see. Honestly thought we'd have Rooney mata and co starting.

sakho, mangala and pepe? really? Those are just some big names you've plucked out from nowhere, if smalling had a fancy latin name and played for someone else then he'd be near the top of everyones list.
Maybe we can add terry, ivanovic, skertel and Chris samba to that list as well. maybe David Luiz and and that 16 year old Belgian lad from fc Ronnie too.
