With Lvg stating we need a no. 6 midfielder l believe we have one already in the bag. He has already criticised the late arrivals last year so all the business will be done very early for a full pre season together. If we the ground running who knows what could happen.

I hope it's Schweinsteiger, he wouldn't be fit for all games, but he and Carrick sharing the load would be a delight to watch.

Also I would like to ask the any of the Eds about how good Yohan Cabaye is defensively, can he play a no 6 role?

24 May 2015 14:36:01
I am positive that it will be Schweinsteiger and not Gundogan. And for me, that is a better deal. Yes Schweinsteiger and Carrick may have their own injury concerns but between them we would always have one fit with Blind as third choice.

Cabaye - it's clear to see how out of depth he is against the top teams in the CL so for that reason I would pass.

Gundogan is the better player and is 24 instead of 30! Will only get better.

24 May 2015 18:38:04
There is a reason bayern would let Bastian move on. He is past his best and now on the decline! Why settle for other teams over the hill players when we can go for someone with their best yet to come?

24 May 2015 20:20:12
Schweinsteiger isn't past his best, Pep just prefers Lahm and in particular Xabi Alonso.

Schweinsteiger is still a class act.

24 May 2015 21:37:22
And Thiago. Shouldn't we be aiming higher than other teams' peripheral 30 year olds?

24 May 2015 22:31:27
I think the point is that we have quite a few holes to fill and to replace Carrick could cost £30m+ in today's market when a fully fit Carrick could play all or most of next Year
Schweinsteiger if he was fully committed could play 6 or slightly further forward where he has for bayern.
At.31 He could play for another 3 years so for 10m could be a bargain and leave cash for other areas.

24 May 2015 22:54:08
I'm not saying I wouldn't accept Schweini, but for me there are plenty of better options.

{Ed007's Note - 'Schweini'??? :=D

24 May 2015 23:23:39
If we can get Schweinsteiger in for 10 million it will be one of our best buys for the last 5 year IMO.

24 May 2015 23:32:34
Yeah Schweini Ed :) Bastian and I are besties so he told me that Schweini is what his pals call him ;)

{Ed007's Note - Well that's a good enough reason for me then, Schweini it is. And if he signs can we expect to hear the old REM classic 'Schweini Happy People' ringing round the ground?}

25 May 2015 00:02:15
Can't see a better signing out there that would cost under £30 million. He's won the lot and knows how to win - crucial.

25 May 2015 03:56:33
'schweini' is what most folks in Germany affectionately call him. I think he would ba a great signing.

25 May 2015 06:15:28
Damn good player and a leader on the pitch. We could do a lot worse and if we get him it would be some signing.

25 May 2015 11:20:45
I don't see how you can think he's past it?! In the World Cup Final in my opinion he was 'Man of the Match'. He ca do it on the biggest stage! Exactly what we need going forward.

25 May 2015 11:21:44
I like the suggestion Ed! We could combine it with my new personal favourite "spirit in the sky" remake being sung non stop for the last 2 matches. I could sing those 2 exclusively next season :)

{Ed007's Note - I heard that on TV yesterday, that's what football chants should be like instead of that awful Kicking a Blue that seemed to be the only song Utd fans had for a while there.}

25 May 2015 17:15:07
I actually quite liked that one Ed :/ but I don't think it's a patch on the new Georgie B song :)
I'm hoping Clyne will sign just so when I've had a few I can sing "red red Clyne, stay close to meeee" lol.

{Ed007's Note - Did Utd open a singing section and if not would you, or anyone else on here, be keen on it? The atmosphere at OT comes across as very flat on TV.}

25 May 2015 19:01:06
Yeah it's open in the north east section I think. I like the idea of but I'm not a season ticket holder so couldn't sit there. I'm living in Fulham now so it's difficult to get to PT as much as I'd like. The atmosphere isn't what it use to be but at the same time I don't think it's as bad as is made out. The high roofs mean that the TV cameras (which I'm guessing are at pitch level) don't pick up much sound but if you're sitting around the stretty it's pretty loud. I remember seeing an article last year saying that United was still the loudest stadium in the country? Another issue is that the stretty and singing section is quite far from the away section so the banter is a bit difficult and granted, the fans they put around the away lot are usually the quiet ones on their iPads etc.
