Thoughts on Lisandro Martinez so far Ed001? Been an absolute rock!

{Ed001's Note - I think he is an excellent player, one who fits the English league well in his style. I can see him ending up as club captain and being a very good one.}

One of our better deals so far together with Casemiro. Proper leader as well. His aggression and positioning more than makes up for his lack of height. He also has a decent leap.

How do rate Dalot this season?

{Ed001's Note - much improved but still not top class yet. If he continues his improvement though, he could be good enough for the long term. I would certainly not put his position as the number one priority right now, as he is growing into the team and is responding to good coaching.}

There are better players out there.

I think things are looking pretty rosy for Rashford and Dalot, playing in two problem positions. Not convinced either will become the first names on the team sheet but the improvement in both this season alone has been staggering so who knows how much further they can go.
Agreed on Martinez, he's been outstanding and has brushed the early fears aside. Food for thought is that we only ended up with him as others weren't available. I wonder if Timber is still a target.

Lisandro has been a great signing. Ofcourse there will be times when he makes a mistake and also because of his height but the way everyone jumped on him after 2 games was something. I remember an article saying Ajax couldn't believe when they heard how much we were willing to pay and also were laughing at United for that. Also they were very happy to let go of Licha as he was considered just an average player.

Even his celebrations are aggressive :)

Casemiro and Licha have given us a strong spine.

He won their player of the season last season and you can see why, fights for the shirt, gives 100%, has a football brain, is quick enough to recover from the odd error and would be an asset to any club. Literally his only negative is his height but his leap and timing are good so it’s not noticeable.

The pundits and press made me laugh so much after the Brentford game, especially as he had actually played well against Brighton and was unlucky to be on the losing side and the Brentford game the whole team was all over the place. I love players proving people wrong, in this case making them look absolutely stupid, he’s already one of my favourite players.

I think Dalot has massively improved this season and you can see this progressing even more as the season goes on and into next year. At 23 he has lots more to learn but could be our RB for the next 5+ years. We do need a better back up than Wan Bisaka so the question is whether we can bring through one from the youth (Laird) or we bring in someone to challenge (dumfries) . Whichever way we go I think with these, Malacia and Shaw we will be set at full back for a while.
Martinez has quickly become my favourite current player, skill, bite and makes everyone around him up there game.
On the Rashford front if he continues his improvements along with the effort he is putting in I can see them offering him a deal at the end of the season, not before. Option of the 1 year extension is always there as fall back. We will be losing Ronaldo so he could have an even bigger part to play for the rest of the season. hoping he does not go to the WC as more time with EtH will help.

Love the footage of Martinez and Antony going after Jorginho in the Chelsea game for his challenge on Elanga. I've missed that from us over the years. Jorginho was absolutely bullied by them sticking up for Elanga.
