No matter who we sign, unless its the player the poster personally wants, they will continue to moan. The Glazers need to register the club name as Moanchester United now.

I think people are more concerned that there’s no clear transfer strategy and the club is scrambling in the last two weeks of the window to bring in literally anyone.

{Ed014's Note - Mugchester United might be more apt

Once again!

The club has always been reactive instead of proactive.

Casemiro wasn't on anyone's lists but mainly because he was probably perceived as unobtainable. Whatever transpired and he became available in delighted we pushed for the deal.

From De Jong to Rabiot to Casemiro in 7 days shows we have no strategy.

This is panic buying like we saw with Fellaini all those years ago, Casemiro could turn out to be a good signing, or like Varane, looks good on paper but turns out to be underwhelming.

Fair play to Madrid though, signed Tchouameni for €80million and gets rid of the 30year old for €70million.

I don’t think anybody is disputing that Casemiro will dramatically improve our team and is significantly better than any of our current midfields, it’s more the complete lack of forward thinking. To add to what Grim said, I’d we sign Casemiro for €70m, we’ll have given Real more for him and Varane than they paid for to Tchouaméni and Camavinga.

Those two will anchor Real’s midfield for the next five-ten years. By contrast, Casemiro will probably give us three good years at best (assuming he settles, which hasn’t been the case for most of our big signings in the post SAF era), while Varane is already seen as being too reliable for a starting spot.

I must say I’m a little envious of Chelski for once. They still need a striker, but their new owner has made some great signings since coming in, with a nice mix of players for now and players for the future. If this Casemiro deal goes through, they won’t have outspent us by much either.

Who's to say Casemiro wasn't the defensive midfield target all along? De Jong / SMS / Radiot are different types of player. Only Rice could have been viewed as a similar player we've been linked with, and West Ham wanted over twice the price. Calm down lol.

For what its worth here's my interpretation.

I think the club/ EtH wanted a CB, CM and a forward as a priority, with both full back positions, a back up keeper, along with a second midfielder and a second forward also on the agenda.

However, the full back positions, keeper and the second midfielder probably depended on outgoings. With AWB, Telles, Henderson and Garner all probably needing to be looked at by EtH before a decision was made.

I think we jumped in with Malacia as he was about to move elsewhere. Eriksen I think was considered a bonus if possible.

We initially wanted Timber, but when it became clear we wouldn't get him we switched to Martinez as EtH ideally wants a played in every line of play who knows his system to make it easier to implement. Timber in the defensive line, FDJ in the midfield line and Antony in the forward line.

That is why the club are still pushing for Antony and FDJ.

FDJ though doesn't look likely, but the club don't want to walk away even if the chances of getting him are slim. So rather than focus on a FDJ replacement, they have moved for the second midfielder so even if we don't get FDJ we have still upgraded the midfield. This coincided with the news that Garner would be allowed to leave. Probably to free up the space. Initially Rabiot was the target, but after that deal hit a dead end the club explored other options and Casemiro seems to be the solution.

Personally I'm much happier with the idea of Casemiro over Rabiot.

The Antony transfer also doesn't look like one that will happen. Talk of a move for Ziyech makes sense, cheap enough, knows EtH's system and the EPL. While a loan move for Pulisic also means not blowing the budget on a 3rd or 4th choice option.

I am happy to see a loan for Pulisic who I think is a very good player. Not so sold on Ziyech but is was a player in there somewhere. We're crying out for depth on the wings so one of these makes sense. Antony is surely not worth the £80m he's suddenly valued at. Gapko is supposedly valued at half that and is great in the Eredivisie but I wonder if it's a jump too soon.
I think Dumfies would be a revelation, if Inter are open to it. A proper full back.
We don't seem to have been linked with many centre forwards, just journeymen. M. Dembele is still a great age but a gamble.
