As an LFC fan I have to say the booing of Maguire was out of order. Sure he has not had a good season but you got to get behind your team.
I hate the argument that if you have paid for your ticket then you are entitled to boo. how would that go down in a theater, concert etc.
The booing started before the match, personally I would love to throw them out of the ground as they are not true England fans but I guess I just have to thank God that I was better brought up than a lot of the holes that follow England these days.

Its just so baffling, the guys been absolutely pony (like god damn awfully horrendous to be clear) for his club but gets booed for his national team.

It makes about as much sense as Maguire himself being the most expensive centre back in club football.

Firstly, I'm not a Maguire fan, but he doesn't pick the squad. Is he expected to turn down the honor of playing for his country.
Playing for England against, mostly countries of below Championship quality, should be a walk in park. This is what Southgate sees.
Maybe if Man U dropped him, like they should, Southgate wouldn't pick him.
At any rate to Boo your own players is disgusting.

{Ed014's Note - it makes me wonder what reason fans of opposing teams would see as the benefit in booing him.

I’d suggest it was members of the London contingent of United fans.

Makes no sense to boo the guy if you’re not a United fan. ?‍♂️

I don't see it as a big deal. He should laugh at them. He is earning the big money playing for England and Manchester United. They are jealous.
Let them boo what's the big deal. Diddles if his feelings are hurt. It's not disrespectful and bets coming on a site like this and being a keyboard warrior calling him all sorts then giving out when people boo him to his face.
If he has given it a moments thought he is a bigger fool than he looks and that's saying something.
He should stand there and boo them back.
You can't be like by everybody and of people want to boo let them.
It's no big deal.

Agree ken, its oart of the job, if he actually performed and gave his all no one would boo.

Its embarrasing everyone coming out in the news, get a grip.

Agree with both sides tbh, Southgate is chatting pony he said Trent last year was poor so that’s why he wasn’t selected so that argument goes out the window when he keeps picking maguire, when Gomez had his fracas with sterling he did nothing wrong and was booed? Southgate didn’t come out and back him with this much fire.

Saying that maguire hasn’t done anything wrong for England so what’s the point in booing.

I think the booing of maguire is a few things,

Herd mentality, Southgate and his current club form.

Personally, the majority of it lays at Southgate door. You can't bang on how you pick players on club form then pick maguire who has been underwhelming by his own fans admission. Nevermind rival fans. And the whole argument of there isn't anyone else with experience, then surely a friendly is the time to experiment and let them gain some.

Poor man management for me and maybe if they announce the managers name before a game it would be aimed at him rather than maguire.

Hardly any Man Utd fans follow England anymore
Me personally couldn’t care about international football
I hate international breaks.

I don't agree with the fans booing Maguire to be honest the other night and I personally wouldn't have, HOWEVER, players need to look at themselves and ask the question, why? Maguire for United has been so poor this season and his interviews etc do not feel you with enthusiasm for the United, £80M captain. Start showing a bit of passion, grit and ruthlessness and the fans would show a bit more warmth towards him.

As for England, I think Southgate has made a rod for his own back, he's made it clear players have not been selected due to form for their club but continue's to pick Maguire when his form is awful and for a friendly, I think fans would rather have seen Tomori and Guehi playing who deserve a go rather than an average CB inflating the number of their international caps. Plus when Maguire scores against San Marino and slides on his knees with his hands behind his ears and continues to drop 3/ 4 out of 10 performances, fans don't forget this and you got to expect some stick.

Got to hold my hands up, I was at the game.
Got free tickets through working for NHS, nice tickets, went with family of the missus. They are all owls, from Sheffield, they don’t get the Maguire hatred.
The section booing were the section singing the IRA songs throughout the match. Embarrassing really with my 10 year old, was the missus first football match. Luckily we all had dinner in the Bobby Moore lounge, padded seats.

Blackpool,

That is absolute nonsense, every single English United fan I know supports the national team as well.
