I don't want to pick on certain individuals and I don't like doing it, but if anyone wants too understand the core of the problems at the club, then look no further than the captain.

The first captain I watched was Keane. He fought for everything and just demanded the highest of standards. After Keane left it felt like we had captains everywhere across the squad from Neville to Vidic and the last leader we had was Rooney. In the last couple or three years we have had Valencia, Young and now Maguire.

Now back to yesterday, I watched Maguire on the first goal be on his heels and just stood still looking at space, on the second he stepped over the ball in his six yard box and on the third he cowered from a block. Was the result purely on Maguire? No, of course not. But he is meant to be the leader, the man driving the standards, yet all we get is rubbish performances week in, week out. Keane wasn't outstanding every week but he made damn sure he left nothing on the pitch and his team mates followed suit.

The common thing that I have noticed in nearly every game this season is our inability to regroup after something goes against us, but there are no leaders here. Maguire never tries to take the game by the scruff, never seems to communicate or lead the backline. He is a disaster waiting to happen every single time he sets foot on the pitch, but has a massive ego. He struts about like Van Djik back there at times.

I thought first half bar the comical defending for the two goals, we looked good. We probably should have went in at 2-2, but the second half and the lack of fight shows there are no balls. The forward players are clearly disillusioned with the defensive players and neither of them fight for each other.

I think we can all accept a defeat to a better opponent, but the manner of defeat is not acceptable. 3 halves of football against city have been a training session for them.

The only way I can see us making any improvement is getting the next manager in and giving them complete authority to clear out the pretenders and properly back him. Not in terms of money, but in terms of security. If you want Ten Hag or Poch then they need a 3-5 year deal and the players need to know that they will see that out.

I still think there is a bit of a saving grace in the fact there could be at least 10 departures this summer, I would love a few more as well. Rangnick will hopefully be telling those in charge which players need to go in order to give the new man the best possible chance. let's get a few lads from the Academy involved in training for Pre Season and give them a shot. Garner, Mengi, Laird, McNeill, Fernandez and Garnacho would all fight harder than the absolute muck we have now.

Agreed he is an awful captain and awful centre back.

People claim that the captain doesn't have too much of an impact but there's no doubt an awful captain can bring the team down especially when he's continually selected even though he is awful.

Off the pitch there's also questions about his behaviour after getting banged up abroad which brings unnecessary attention to the club that we don't need.

Look at Aubameyang and Arsenal, parted ways and Arsenal have improved and look more of a team unit.

Even if its purely for symbolism, it certainly wouldn't hurt to strip Maguire of the captaincy and isolate him for his incompetence and give the captaincy to Varane or De Gea.

I hope RR does let the people above know what players to let go but i'm not sure they want to listen. Also we’ve seen with other players surplus to requirements hang around because the club doesn’t like the offer from other clubs. We over value players to eventually be given another contract and then we have a bloated squad of players not playing and that’s no good as we’ve seen recently.
RR was brought in to eventually move into a consultancy role, we have heard that we are starting to look at managers maybe even speak to some but according to RR no one has spoken to him and asked his opinion on who should be next manager. Listening to him he even seems a bit perplexed at the fact no one has come to him and asked.
The problem with our club has been the same problem for a while, the non football people think they know best. We will never be successful again with these people running our club.

Is it that surprising that a group of players who can't handle anything going against them off the pitch also can't handle anything going against them on the pitch.

Our players have all the mental strength and resilience of a sheet of single ply toilet paper in a thunderstorm.

Captain or no captain we have nothing there to lead. Clear them out and start again otherwise the cycle will continue.

The club is rotten to the core
Useless owners who know nothing about football employing more clowns who know nothing about football and then the crem de le crem, our wonderful squad of worldbeaters

The players are unhappy and now sniping at each other and thinking it’s everybody else’s fault and blaming Ralf and questioning his cv

These players are an utter disgrace

Every single one barring Sancho Varane and Elanga should be put on the transfer list

I’m sick to death of these overpaid primadonnas

I can honestly say that Fred and McTominay are the worst starting midfield we have had in my nearly 50 years.

And look at the goals Abangayang is scoring now, cos he respects the coach, so it works both ways, Arsenal better without him, he better without Arsenal.

Nice of Abangayang to feel like doing his job. It must have been terrible for him at Arsenal. My heart bleeds.

Would you perform to 100% capacity in your field if you don’t like your boss and see no alternative, why do you think it’s any different if you earn 250k per week or 2 bob, that’s just green eyed monster talk, very British thing.
