Question Gents:

We know we need defenders. Which / out of him mels, howedes, Godwin and Laporte would you go with?

Personally I prefer the athletico pair. I think due to the league and team they play for they actually have to do more defending. Also just big fan of Laporte.

Interested to hear your opinions.

{Ed004's Note - Probably Godin or Laporte}

1.) Godin is a real old fashioned centre half, brilliant in the air clears his lines no messing, strong and great for set pieces, hope we get him

2.) I like godin but i don't think he is the type of player we need

3.) The only thing that could hinder a move for Godin would be how good is he on the ball? I know he is excellent in the air and is very solid, but what is his passing out from the back like?

Hi all.

I have waited till I slept on yesterday's performance as I was so disappointed at the time I didn't think I would be able to be objective. So nearly 24 hours later how do I feel.

Observation points:

1: Hernandez isn't going to fit a 352 certainly not when we play at home. He is a good finisher and is decent against opponents playing a high line but his touch and distribution isn't good enough when teams sit deep and we have to play infront of them, and his running into the channels isn't great.

2. With Shaw and Raphael out we haven't got good enough back up options at wing back. Young was poor again, and whilst I like to see youth given a chance neither lingard or januzzaj are wing backs.

3. We need an experienced head to play alongside jones, Smalling, Evans and Blackett. We looked very vulnerable at the back, Swansea only really created a couple of chances but scored 2.

4. We still desperately need someone who can boss the midfield. Whilst Herrera wasn't fantastic I thought he did ok on his debut and looked busy. Fletcher however well he played on tour was a real problem. He slowed play down regularly by playing the easy option back to one of our back 3.

5. We need more pace and movement out of our front 3. The options weren't there or were being covered and I felt the front 3 didn't do enough off the ball to get us into decent positions and if they did the ball always then ended up going backwards again slowing things down.

Key areas to look for acquisitions:

CB ideally 2: maybe Benatia and Rojo.
CM: I'm not mentioning that chap who plays for Juve so I would suggest Carvalho if we could get him or maybe a Guarin type character though I'd salivate over schweinsteiger.
WB: cuadrado I guess would be the best option here
FW/AM: Di Maria or Ruess though Depay seems to be playing very well at the moment. Bagged 2 yesterday and maybe more affordable with the other additions we need.

Might be something to it! They've reopened the betting on his next club.

Maybe indicates it's not done!

Stevie.

I did read your post.

The reply was partly in reaction to your post but also to those reply's.

You say they deserve credit, I don't think they do! That's my opinion you have yours. Of course it's not their 'fault' they were picked and like anyone else I would have paid to be able to pull on the shirt.

But that doesn't change the fact that we need higher expectations of our players.

I don't remember their being a response like this when we shipped Gibson of to Everton as he wasn't good enough.

The fact is whilst I support whatever team goes out and plays there are certain players who I hope play well rather than expect to play well. People like cleverley and nani.

It's about setting expectation and being realistic about the quality of our players. Call a spade a spade! Just because they pull on the shirt doesn't mean they are good enough! I will support them wholeheartedly when they do, but it doesn't mean I can't recognise that they shouldn't.

Right sanctimonious rubbish time over!

Top businesses and teams succeed because they make the tough calls. I don't hate cleverly or any of the other 'deadwood' that we have. But trying to sugar coat the fact they simply aren't and weren't good enough is exactly the reason we finished in 7th. Take him for a beer if you feel sorry for him but it doesn't change the fact he isn't good enough.

They brought the 20th title my arse! De gea, vidic, Ezra, Raphael, car rock, Rooney etc the guys who played 20+ genes for us won us the 20th title not those who simply made up the numbers.

I will always support the team that pulls on my beloved united shirt. But that doesn't mean I can't recognise weakness and where we need to improve!

Rant over

I think most decent fans recognise we are very short in certain areas and have been hit by injury in key areas.

Wing back: personally I think Raphael could be a blinding wing back down the right and Shaw will improve the left.

CB: we are short here but Evans and now Smalling have injuries.

CM: Carrick and now Herrera are both injured.

That's 6 potential starters we are missing. Add in RVP coming back late from the World Cup along with Januzaj and that's going to have an impact.

I do think Woodward has again underperformed so far this window and still think we need another CB and CM to come in though.

But bearing in mind the fact we are playing a new system that will take a little time to get used to and everything else I think we need to have some perspective as to immediate expectation.
