According to a report. Angel Di Maria has aid NO thanks to PSG and wants a move to England.

Anyone know I this is true or not

Sambo2

1.) There are plenty of conflicting reports mate. One problem for us is the amount RM are asking for. It's a lot.

2.) Any idea what the figure is?

Does anyone know if James Rodriquez is likely to leave Monaco this summer? I am only picking up on a few media reports, that he might be looking to move to England. I remember us being heavily linked for him a couple seasons ago.
cheers

Sambo2

{Ed002's Note - There is no intention right now for him to move on this summer.}

1.) I really rate Rodriguez and reckon he'll have a good world cup. On the subject of wingers ed, we held previous interest in Nico Gaitan and Iker Munian. Are you aware if interest remains?

{Ed002's Note - My understanding is that Manchester United and PSG did speak with Benfica about Gaitan in January 2013 but no bid was made as the asking price was seen to be far too high. Interest from Bayer Leverkusen, Spurs and Arsenal will have waned by now. I understand that Benfica also had an approach from Anzhi for Gaitan but the player made it clear he has not any interest in talking to them. I understand that the interestwas still therew from Manchester United and PSG in January, but not at the price being asked. He will probably sign a new contract at Benfica.

I expect that Muniain will agree a contract extension with Athletic Bilbao.}

2.) Would be a great signing for the right wing fast and energetic

3.) I heard off a mate that united looked at munian a while ago I posted about it but I think its gone cold.

4.) Rodriguez is absolute quality And without a doubt will take the cup by storm.
He will be one of the top attackers in a few years easily

This will probably be old news by the time is gets posted but Guillem Balague has just said that UTD WILL make an offer for Mata.
How reliable he is I don't know, but I remember him calling the De Gea move long before it happened.

Sambo2

1.) Would Roman agree to sell Mata to MU in January if MU agree to sell Rooney to them in the summer? Did SAF/Ed Woodward and Roman really have a glass of wine together after the Chelsea game? I still think Mata isn't a Moyes type player, but stranger things have happened.

2.) He also stated that United had a deposit down on Falcao. wonder if we got it back?

3.) Does it smack of desperation? Moyes way? maybe he is now realising his "way" has to change. I think Mata is top class, but does he fit? I don't know either but its a step in the right direction? 8 months ago we were all chomping at the bit, we knew Rooney wanted out and we were reading the Rooney Mata swap stories and happy. Now though the reaction is a bit more mixed? Why? If Rooney still wants out. what's the difference.

4.) I also recall him saying we paid an amount of money to receive information on Falcao, I don't think it was a down payment so to speak.

I would never have thought that i'd be sitting here reading all the Ronaldo stories, that I would be thinking "Do we really need him?" "Where would he fit in?" "Would Di Maria give up the number 7 after only one season?"

and somewhat guiltily I am thinking I would be the WRONG move for us.

We have come so far in terms of players in the past 6 months to be able to say that.

The only scenario I can think of, and believe might happen is that Falcao might end up at Real and Ronaldo would fill that slot.

Sambo2

1.) I think you're right. I don't think Ronaldo would come back and get the #7. The only likely scenario is that Falcao and Ronaldo swap places and Ronaldo gets the #9. Would he be happy with that though? I don't know. I still want him back though.

2.) Having said that, we could quite easily accomodate Ronaldo up front with Falcao and Rooney behind. So it would more than likely be Mata that misses out. The targets for next season though sound incredible, even better than this year: Strootman, Hummels and Ronaldo to complete our side and finish the 'clear out'.

3.) It's a tough one. I saw somebody suggest the other day that they would rather we signed Reus than Ronaldo; and I'm inclined to agree.

I appreciate that Ronaldo is a tremendous athlete but can't see him keeping up his current levels of performance for much longer. If we sign him we'll be getting a player on the decline and paying a lot of money. A fair amount of that money will be recouped in shirt sales and sponsorships - and a declining Ronaldo is still a lot better than a peak everybody else (bar Messi, of course); but taking sentiment out of the equation it's hard to justify spending the kind of money it would take to re-sign him on a 30 year old. The only reason I'd sign him would be to stop him going to a domestic rival.

4.) Look at Reus current injury record though, he isn't playing many games at all.

5.) I personally don't want him back because we currently have a good forward line and he would be a lot of money and headache so would rather spend the money on Reus and Strootman

6.) Fresh! - The lad averaged 45 appearances over the past 2 seasons. That's more than most players manage!

I don't understand why people including Mike Phelan are jumping on the back of the club saying we are "broken" and "lost our identity".
Would they rather we stuck with Welbeck, Cleverley, and other academy lads who simply haven't been god enough. Everyone thinks that because the Class of 92 came through and were successful that the rest should be at that standard. If we stuck with that "philosophy" then we would get massively left behind. Football is a results game now, financial juggernaut because of it. Surely the critics know that?
We still have academy lads in the first team squad, can City, Chelsea etc say the same? Yet as soon as we spend some money we get a kick in from the same people who said we "need to spend big" last season.

Sambo2

1.) We have been broken ever since SAF left. We went from 1st to 7th overnight.

2.) I am fed up with all the city and chelski fans saying we are trying to buy success and it is no different to what they have done when will they understand that the major difference is our club earned this money while our owners continually take money out and their clubs just received handouts

3.) 03 Sep 2014 10:13:05
Mr Phealen was part of a management team that bid but was unsuccessful for Ronaldinho, benzema lucas etc etc and was also part of a management team that sold home grown phil neville john o shea beckham and butt so please Mr Phealen needs to be ignored at this stage the only thing that's changed is that we were succesful in our bids for big players this year. We have always sold on players we have deloped but that are not quite 1st team starters.

4.) 03 Sep 2014 11:02:26
red79,

Just ignore them, every single Chelsea and City fan knows full well the difference between our spend and their spend, they just choose to ignore it to 'banter' with us.

5.) All I heard from Phelan's comments was “It was so much better when I was there”.

Truth is, how many times have United broken the transfer record in the past? We ALWAYS bought a top quality addition to the starting 11 when it was needed – this summer, we've needed it far more than any other transfer window. Cleverly and Welbeck have had a few years to prove themselves worthy of a starting 11 position and neither have taken those chances. I'm sorry to see Welbeck go but he never going to break into the 11 without injuries, so if wants to leave, let him go.

It's our 'identity' that got us into the mess of last season. Allowing SAF to pick a successor in his own mould; relying on the old guard when it was clear they were fading; playing academy players like Cleverly and Welbeck when they were not good enough to start.

Expecting continued success while refusing to move with the times.

Football has changed. The Class of 92 was a complete anomaly, as proven by no other club (including us) repeating that crop of excellent young players for almost 15yrs. Now, you either buy top players to compliment your young, homegrown talent, or you fall behind badly.

Anyone else gutted that we have to wait two weeks to play again? I can't wait to get our players back and fit.
I have been trying numerous times to work out a formation to work and only way I can do it is to drop Mata and Rooney to drop back into midfield. If RVP is fit.
I think we will go in for Strootman in Jan to replace Carrick/Fletcher, and I think we would be set for next 3-4 seasons.

Sambo2

1.) 02 Sep 2014 12:59:14
the break actually came at the right time IMO, gives our new players a chance to train with the squad, get to know the players and the system.

We also have a lot of injured players that should be fit after the break.

2.) It's nice to be excited about an upcoming game again rather than worried about what 20 year old record we're going to break that week.

Bring on QPR. I feel sorry for Rio. Can you imagine him against our strike force?

3.) No, it gives the players time to work on their game.

4.) Hopefully Rojo will be sorted out before the next match Shaw hopefully will be fit

01 Sep 2014 14:19:44
Would anyone be surprised if we signed Falcao as RVP replacement, especially if he really does need knee op as reported last night.
Nobody saw this one coming, because its the one position that we "seemed" not to need. So something is obviously going on. Was it a case of not being able to afford to miss out here, so maybe phase RVP out over next 10 months.
also reading hat Rooney might drop into midfield? So that's the writing on the wall for Mata I guess.
I could honestly see Mata and RVP leaving in next 12 months.

Sambo2

1.) One suspects that if he didn't sign for us he would go to Manchester City or Arsenal. Arsenal are probably the weakest of last years top four and the team we're most likely to catch - so it's a good bit of business in that regard.

If there's any truth to the RVP injury stories than it makes sense.

2.) Van Persie with a knee operation will b out for a good amount of time maybe why Cavani and Muller was targeted but next year could be the year Rvp goes to a different club maybe Madrid for one last big paycheck

Can anyone help with the Rojo work permit issue?
LVG said the difference between him and Di Maria, is that Di Maria has an Italian passport?
Rojo has an Argentinian passport and has to "work for it"?

Surely we would have looked into this prior to signing the lad.

Sambo2

1.) There's talk that not only is the Rojo deal being held up by work permit issues (attributed to ongoing legal troubles in Argentina) - but also that the Premier League are still to ratify the deal because of third party ownership issues. Apparently Sporting are refusing to give Doyen 75% of the transfer fee despite Doyen having lent them 75% of the funds to sign the player from Russia.

{Ed002's Note - That is nonsense - you don't understand the transfer process.}

2.) He is already a united player. The transfer is completed and work permit issues will be sorted out during the international period.

3.) 30 Aug 2014 06:54:20
Ed002 - At no point have I claimed to understand the intricacies of transfers. Just passing on what I've heard from a few places. Thanks for clearing that up though!

Either way, the delay doesn't help us one bit. Actually couldn't have come at a worse time really! With our defence looking as poor as it does.
I agree though, I am sure we would have done the research before splashing the cash.

I think that the difference in MUFC the "Franchise" and MUFC the football club is what is causing the problem. We keep hearing "biggest club in the world" which we know currently isn't true on the football side, but nobody can argue the global appeal on the business side.
What we do have linking the two together is Edward Woodward who is renowned for his expertise on one side and is still learning the ropes on the other and will be keen to avoid what happened last season despite how things are looking with two weeks to go.
We all think that we can see things that club officials cant. Holes in the midfield, weak links here there and everywhere. You can guarantee that LVG, EW, SAF, Bobby Charlton and anyone else you care to mention will know this too. I think fans get frustrated because MUFC don't flaunt it all in the media (lessons learned from last year) and keep cards close to chest. A lot can happen in two weeks and think/hope that people will see that "they" knew what they were doing all along.

I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed. Seeing as LVG used him as our plan B on sat and lumped him up top and hit long balls to. I think he needs the move for himself, as he will always be Moyes' man who represents that disastrous season of 13/14.

People are saying we need CB's, CM's more urgently but if we signed someone like Di Maria, then they have the ability to stretch the game and take the pressure off of the midfield and CB. Has a knock on effect, I totally agree that we need CB's and CM but with ADM and Januzaj we have two player that could completely change the dynamic of the way we play and give the others an easier time, at the moment we don't have an outlet with pace.

Haven't seen much of him to be honest, but after today we badly need somebody. I wonder if this is "as well" as Rojo or "instead" of. Could be Shaw, Benatia and Rojo in a back 3.

I thought Rooney was one of the worst players on the pitch yesterday, he gave the ball away numerous times and his first touch has just deserted him. Also RVP really slows the game down, he receives the ball on the edge of the box and then holds it up for all the defenders to get back. Falcao looked a lot better, still finding his feet. i'd play Rooney up with Falcao and Mata in behind.

Our defence is the problem, if it was me I would play a 4, and have have Rojo in the middle and bring Shaw in on the left. Didn't think i'd ever say it but we could do with Phil Jones, he is erratic yes, but least he has a bit of bite and determination

Vidal has just tweeted something along the line of "Ready to Return, 100% Juventus"

I think that finally rules out a move, as the media world have been saying that Vidal's opinion would be decisive in this potential deal.

I guess we now turn our head to Carvalho, if its not to late

I see no reason to flap about it. Yes it was a poor performance and shocking score line. But LVG was relatively calm about it, because it was the kids and fringe players. Fergie did the same with this competition. The only worry I DID have was the performance of Evans, I think he was appalling. Evans was billed as saviour when Smalling and Jones were poor against Swansea. We need a top CB and some leaders there.

Usually I am one to get wound up and frustrated following a result like that, and for some reason this time round I am remarkably calm. I think last night LVG picked that team, so that they could have one last chance to prove themselves. Kagawa, Chicharito, Welbeck, Powell, Anderson etc all likely to be out the door by next Monday after that either on loan or sold.
I have accepted that this season will be a nothing season for us, we can hope for top 4, but I think it will all click into place next season for us. By that time all new players will have settled, and hopefully they will all be comfortable in the system LVG wants to play.

Also nothing better than being a UTD fan following a result like that. Fans of other teams suddenly pour out of the woodwork
