Manchester United Current Situation

LvG a proven and top quality manager has come in and has said it will take several months before the team start to play the way he wants.

Our current league position isn't great but nor is it a disaster. Our team needed rebuilding from the ground up, we had very few players on which you could build a team around, maybe only DDG, Rooney, Mata and RvP with Rafael and Jones potentially great players if they can shake off their injuries and occasional poor decision making.
Now if Mata doesn't suit the way LvG wants to play and RvP isn't a long term option then he came into a squad which had 2 players ready to build a team around. that's 9 players he needs before he can truly show what he can build and that's not even considering having a squad of players that's just the first team.

So that's a huge rebuilding task of which we are at best a third of the way through, Ed002 said it was a three window plan and we have only had one window.

He then had to modernise the whole set up of the club, Sir Alex ran the club in the way he knew best and that was in a lot of ways stuck in the 90's as he was a 90's manager. Sure he progressed and moved with the times but he still very much kept to his roots and what he knew best. It was obvious especially in the latter years that he relied heavily on his assistant managers to help draw up more modern tactics to adjust to the moving landscape that is modern football, Carlos Quieroz being the most obvious who helped change our tactics especially in europe.

LvG may not be a long term manager but he knows how to set a club up for the long term, the club is having to go through 20 years of modernisation in a few months and people already expect us to be challenging for the title.

A sense of perspective is needed. This season was always about modernising the club, rebuilding confidence and the infrastructure of the team and the tactics while making sure we finish in the champions league positions come May.

So how is that going? Well the quality of football on display has certainly improved along with the attitude of the players and their confidence and spirit. So in that respect we are moving in the right direction.

Performances have been patchy with some great football being played but also silly errors costing us valuable points. But let's be fair to the process that is under way here, first off there has been a massive change in the playing staff at the club, along with 14 players leaving and 6 coming in we have also seen several young players promoted into the first team such as Blackett, McNair, and Wilson. The whole landscape has changed new friendships and partnerships need to be stuck up all over the field. And this doesn't just effect the new players coming in but the players already at the club, what does players such as Felliani, Mata, Smalling, Evans, Carrick, Rooney and RvP make of their new standing within the club? How do they feel the new manager and tactics will effect their game and their playing time? Do they need to move on? There was always going to be a huge upheaval within the squad and that was always going to have an effect on the pitch.

Add to that the massive injury issue the squad are having at the moment then getting a settled team is the first problem as it is stopping these new relationships from growing. We have only been able to play the same back line in consecutive games once. Some might blame LvG for not strengthening the defence enough and there maybe a slight argument for that but at the same time Fellaini was signed last year as he was the only player available to us and he has turned out to be an over priced ill advised buy to say the least. Look at how Mangala has struggled at City would people be happy if we had signed him for nearly 40m and that meant we had no money to further strengthen the defence. You need to find the right players and bring them in when they are available. Add to that the fact that LvG had very little time to fully assess the squad and scout players to bring in.

So if you removed all the silly mistakes from our performances so far this season then we would probably be in second place by now. And that's with only a third of the rebuild done.

Give LvG the time he needs and we will get the fruits of his labour, we may have to wait until next season or even the season after before we win a title again but considering the glut of titles we have won the amount of success we have had is it really the end of the world to go 2 or 3 years without a title.

LvG will continue to work with the players he has available and they will start to remove those silly mistakes that have cost us, our injuries will subside and we will have a settled team, and then the points will come. In January and next summer the deadwood will continue to be moved on and replaced with better players more suited to playing the way LvG wants.

This was never going to be an overnight fix, even with a 150m spent on it. let's have some patients and look forward to the great displays that are coming if we only support the manager and the team through this awkward process.

You talk far too much sense for a United supporter, Shappy. What's this thing called patience you're on about? Never heard of it myself. I want results and I want titles now now now! I don't care how much rebuilding we need to do: I want to sign every World Class player who's not available for peanuts, and for them to gel instantly.

And give Sir Alex some of Captain America's super soldier serum and put him back in the dugout, while you're at it. Sod it, why not give some to Keano and bring him back too?

i think your doing a massive disservice to fergie?

Yes Fergie was a great Manager, If he had of spent money replacing players he kicked out, we're not good enough or Sold to RM then we would not have spent 200m in the last 2 windows. All the excuses of No value in the market was just rubbish. look at the great players at other clubs bought for less than 25 million and now worth double at least.

This lack of buying has cost us now as were splashing excess amounts of cash on players, with only 1 WC signing. How much did Hazzard, Silva, Yaya, Suarez, dzeko, Matic to name but a few cost before playing in the EPL and now worth a fortune.

Keane was sacked and not replaced. Scholes was getting on and not replaced and the 2 best CDM we had and Knew where coming to and end where not replaced with other leader's just mere half decent defenders. I hate to think what would have happened if Scholes had left at the same time RK did.

Therefore although a great Manager I still think SAF was trying to keep The Glaziers pockets full in believing lighting would strike again and he could dominate football with youth players.
DM knew this but was too inexperienced. So rock on LVGand drag United into the 21st Century with WC players so we can rule the world again.

P.S I hope you are secretly showing Giggsy some of your knowledge so when he takes over he wont be daft and continue the success us Fans are used to.
