Just for a bit of debate who would you like to see signed to create the spine of our next team?

We're going to say that DDG will leave this summer for Real Madrid so we will need a GK, CB, CM and ST, who would you pick?

For me it would be Butland, Laporte, Verratti and Dybala.

Jred I picked Butland and it was a tough choice between Stones and Laporte. Barkley is overrated, It was a toss up between Verratti and Alli for midfield, but in the end a no brainer, as as good as Alli might become Verratti is the best young midfielder in the world for me. I could have gone for Kane but I still have my doubts about him at the highest level. Is he the guy who will go on to become a 35-40 goals a season striker. Hmmm I don't know, although he certainly has proven he is more than a one season wonder.

Although if it wasn't for my man Pochettino having faith in young lads like Kane even when others had given up on them then maybe England would be short one very good striker this coming summer. that's the beauty of trusting in youth.

sherwood played kane when the club wanted to sell him he won't be a true worldclaas player imo but he will be a very good player. bybala is 50 50 imo .
stones is the next top cb and english .
i think that's what united are about, not buying the next french or spanish talent.
barkley is going to be a top player, box to box, can takle can beat a man can score a goal . next gazza.

Barkley has talent, there's no doubting that. He is just struggling to bring it all together. He also picks up a fair few injuries which aren't helping his development.

Sherwood played Kane when everyone else was Injured, not out of choice. He also dropped him again when Soldado was fit again. It was Pochettino who decided that Kane should play ahead of Soldado.

I agree that Stones looks like the next top English CB, but I will be careful not to put the phrase world class on him. I remember when Jones was going to be the next Duncan Edwards. It can go south very quickly if a player doesn't kick on as expected.

Dybala is going to be a wonderful player, he already is. He has replaced Tevez at Juventus and kept Morata out of the team. My Italian friend who is a Juventus fan is whispering Del Piero to me when I mention Dybala. And from a Juve fan there is no higher praise.

I would rather buy english where possible. But we need to be realistic as well.

barkely is a top player not overated like u say .
sherwood played kane when the club wanted to sell him and said so in the media. brave call.
kane has done it in the epl and done more than dybala.
jones was no where near d edwards or stones if you though that it explains a lot.
united way is top english young talent, people like u just want fancy names ;)

I'm with u shaps, I'm not sold on barkley at all, infact I'd go one further and say he's a bit overrated, alli is already twice the player imo.

Stones needs to learn to defend better for me but he's going to be a star.

Kane offers you work rate and a good finish, but needs runners behind him to win and give him the ball in areas where his true talents can hurt the opposition.

Kante wouldn't be a bad shout for cm u know. He's the player arsenal fans are always telling us Coqulian is (another I think is slightly overrated) .

If Barkley is not overrated then what has he acieved? A season and a half of bright moments but lacking consistency.

Would you back him every week to make a telling and decisive contribution to Everton getting a result? No, but he's talked about as if he's the best thing since sliced bread. Until he realises his talents he will be overrated.

Kane hasn't really achieved more than Dybala, both to be honest haven't achieved an awful lot. But Dybala has more talent and a higher ceiling. Kane only made a handful of apperances under Sherwood. You just don't want to give Pochettino any credit.

I never thought Jones would reach the level of Duncan Edwards but it was mentioned by someone well placed to have an opinion. Which goes to show the overhyping of English talents.

Stones is currently a better player than Jones was when we signed him. But both have been refered to as the future of Englands defence and potential world class players. I was just pointing out that until talent and potential has been fully realised that anything could happen and the next best thing can soon become yesterdays news.

I'd love to have a team of top English talent, the problem is how are we going to get it with a manager like Jose who refuses to play youngsters. The best route for English talent into our team is through the academy. Yes buy the special ones who emerge else where if possible, but we need a managee who will first give them a chance.

I read a stat that Pochettino in his two and a half years in English football has give more debuts to young english players than Mourinho has in his twice as long.

by the way for by your post i think young english players would have a better chance with jose than you .

Chris, I'm with you in that I think Alli is already a better player than Barkley. Has certainly had more impact this season.

I like Kane, I just don't think he's the Brazilain Ronaldo reborn. If Welbeck has his nose for goal he would be a better alround player than Kane.

I've been really impressed with Kante. He looks a beast and not the annoying let's blame LvG for everything kind. Lol.

Schmeichel- personally I think he's becoming a very good keeper and if he's half as good as his dad I'd be happy
Varane- still young and already a beast of a player
Alli- we all know how good he's going to very talented, missed out big time.
Lukaku- exactly what we need imo, big, strong, young and proven already
New manager-Eddie howe- don't think he gets the credit he deserves, Bournemouth play better football than us.

Shappy - "If Welbeck has his nose for goal he would be a better all around player than Kane". I'm sorry but I can't agree with that. let's take goal-scoring out of it, Kane is better at hold up play, he's better in the air, he's stronger, he can actually control the football. To suggest that the only thing holding Welbeck back is his finishing is just disingenuous.

My spine:
Perrin - Could easily go Butland here too.
Stones - If he is coached by a better manager you wouldn't hear any of the nonsense about him now.
Renato Sanches - I think we will be hearing about him a lot in the near future and even more so if we miss out on him.
Neymar - Young generational talent.
