Another pearl of wisdom from the greta fuhrer

"I think he would have been able to play better every game. So far we have not seen the best Schweinsteiger; the player I know of Bayern Munich. I think I'll talk to him. "

Let see he was 25 back then and now he is 30, maybe that us why guardiola was not playing him much last year and munich was happy to accept 6.5 million in fees for him.

Amazing statements this guy makes, by the time he leaves, we will have enough material to write a comic book lol.

Unless Schweinsteiger has an underlying problem, I don't see why his age should be a problem. He should be at the peak of his physical fitness.

Sorry to break it you Tuor, players peak a different ages. This is Bastian's 14 season at the top level, and playing at that level for so long takes its toll, especially when you're a box-to-box midfielder. Pep was using him sparingly and asking him to play in a deeper role to adapt to his physical limitations. Van Gaal can't have been watching Bastian play for the last few seasons if he honestly thinks he was buying a player at the same physical level as the one he coached 5 years ago.

After his transfer, Guardiola stated that they hadn't been able to get him fit for some time hence he hadn't played him.

He actually said, "He is a top, top player. Unfortunately, the last three years he was never in good condition. "

I think it was more the name than the quality you needed to be seen to be signing after the disaster with Di Maria. Made zero sense to me outside of that. Ridiculous reported wages too if true.

Tutor

Funny thing happens to people with age. Kobe brant goes from scoring 81 points in an Nba game to scoring 4 and missing 90 percent of his shots and having enough sense to know he is no longer good enough at the top level and announcing his retirement.

Tiger woods used to win for fun and has 14 majors and now a days is unable to make a cut and can't even swing a club as i write this.

Rooney is well past his sell by date and we should have spend money on a striker in the summer. Buying a player clearly in decline and paying him 275k a week is madness when one thinks about the options that were available if we were willing to spend that kind of money. The club has f. cked itself by supporting this managers transfer wishes.

If you think schweinsteiger is the same player as 5 years ago, you obviously have not watched football much and definitely don't know him at all as he looks like he is walking with lead boots in the last 30 minutes of most games. He hardly runs and the team is designed to play things through him and he sits deeper and deeper as his legs are gone.

There is a reason why so many clubs do not give players long term contracts when they turn 30. Sir Alex made a career out of that and was the best at knowing when to get rid of players and rebuild. One thing he never did was not go out and blow crazy money on a 30 year old to build his next team.

GCU - I never said he was the same player; I just said his age shouldn't be an excuse.

I and 35, and I feel fitter than I was at 25. I certainly can run further and lift heavier weights. That said, I am aware that some players drop off after 30 compared with others; but that might have more to do with lifestyle factors; or a chronic injury that gets worse over time.

Bastian seems to have a general fitness problem insofar as he struggles to play for 90 mins. That might improve or it might not. Time will tell I suppose. I still think he is quality though.

LVG just wanted a friend GCU.

How do you stop unrest? Fill the changing room with mates, Schweiny, Blind, he didn't even get Depay right and when RVP wouldn't listen to his tripe he shipped him out! If he hadn't given Rooney the captaincy he would have been sold in the summer for bitching. ADM, Falcao moaning and gone.

bastion seems like a lovely bloke but he is starting to have a figure resembling Kim Kardashian, check that booty. I don't think he has looked fit since he arrived.

I am 45 and have less body fat than when I was 25 and 5 days in the gym with a trainer. I can assure you just because I can do heavier weights and more chin ups than i ever did when i was 25, I am no where as fast, agile, flexible or have the lungs that i had.

Players like Bastian, Carrick and Rooney have a lot of miles on those legs and the wear and tear eventually gets you. Keeping fit to compete at the highest level at a club like united given the various little niggles and injuries becomes harder and harder. It looks like we have paid 275k a week for a player to play 60 minutes a game. I don't know anyone in world football who does that. its nuts imo.

People can analyse our games all they want. You can not build a team around a 30 year old player in decline just as you can not depend on a 30 year old declining striker who has lost his pace and sharpness to score consistently the majority of your goals to win you games.

When you have five 0-0 in ten games and two 1-1 it is not a coincidence or an anomaly it is a pattern and whilst we all like to think we can hit a light switch and things will change, it will only get worse as the season goes on with the volume of injuries and number of games coming.

This team across the board does not know how to one touch pass anymore and everyone takes 3 or 4 touches before they get rid of the ball and then everyone wonders why our build up is so slow. The manager seems to confuse attacking football with bs useless pass after pass that creates very little.

I believe they are coached to retain the ball or you are out of the line up and why they fart around with too many touches and everything looks lethargic, disjointed and labourious.

Give to another 2 months and the last bastian of supporters of this guy will turn, i actually like him, find him funny and think he is very honest but think his brand of football is wrong for us and will never win you anything in this league.

Good post Mate.

I completely agree about the team looking leggy and lethargic at times. Do you think that is a consequence of the type of training they are doing?

With regards to Bastian, I hope he can sort his fitness problems out. I still think he has a lot to offer, even if he isn't the player he was when he was a bit younger.

I thought there were times yesterday when we moved the ball quick and played some nice one touch stuff around the West Ham box, resulting in a good chance.

I suppose time will tell. I have given up trying to predict how it will all pan out.
