Such a shame as he has the talent to be one of the top players, but when that drive and hunger goes its hard to get it back. Bale will coast on now making as much money as he can until he retires to spend even more time on the golf course.

He would have been a great player for United 4-5 years ago. But now he would just be another Sanchez, disrupting the dressing room with his huge wages while never getting on the pitch enough to make the expense feel worth it.

You are right Shappy, Bale could have been much better than what he settled for.

Given his injury history, his physical strength/ explosive power and flexibility (e. g. ability to make long throw-ins), I've often wondered if Bale has a hypermobility condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Much like any condition, the symptoms vary from person to person, but it can be quite debilitating if not managed carefully. Several rounds of golf on top of football training and matches would be more than enough cause for persistent muscular/ joint injuries and fatigue, and it is difficult for non-sufferers to understand why you physically do not have the energy to chase back and defend all the time when you run out of batteries.

Conversely, he could just be a bit lazy and happy to settle for a large pay packet and luxury lifestyle!

{Ed001's Note - he never had any problem chasing back in the past and, if that is the issue, he should be following doctor's advice and dropping the golf.}

like most players age catches up on everybody.
