Watkins or Sesko?

Lots of people saying Watkins is EPL proven. True, but so was Kane and we passed that up to sign Hojland. Kane would have fit better than Watkins. Watkins will be a far more expensive investment looking for his last pay day than Sesko, with little to no sell on value. That doesn't matter so much to us, but to the club it will. You also have to wonder why Rashford was brought in and how good he looked in the Villa side. Displacing Watkins quite easily too.

Sesko, I do not know a great deal about him. He does want to end up in La Liga. If rumours are true, Arsenal was his stepping stone. This may actually suit our owners as we know. Bring in a 22 year old, develop him and sell him on for more than double. As a player I know little about him. He is very well respected and is expected to be the finished article. Arsenal and Liverpool both like him. As do Chelsea. Keep an eye on that.

I think financial motivation with potential will win out. We will go for Sesko, but Watkins could be the fallback option. I think we should have went all out for Kane 2 years ago. And Rice. I was quite vocal about it. Both going very strong. Both big characters. Both would have changed the dressing room. I like Cunha and Mbeumo. Bruno deeper to spread play, something Ugarte lacks. Could be a good season with a good striker signed.

Sesko for me. Big physical presence. Can also run in behind but will have runners off of him in Cunha, Mbuemo and Diallo. Not sure Watkins can be that target player and plays better running in behind to stretch defence. Sesko, from what I have seen can do both. Younger too and can score goals.

Fair points Syd, but that assumes he delivers on his potential. And I'm not sure he will double his value given the price we are expecting to have to pay.

I'm not massively excited about Watkins, but I feel pretty sure he will score goals.

Watkins isn't the player everyone thinks he is ed001 has stated quiet a bit that he isn't good enough i tend to agree. Rashford displaced him because Marcus rashford is a far better player than Ollie Watkins if he just had the mind set.

I feel AR is going for counter attacking play with the players he has signed. I think Sesko suits that better than Watkins. Can see Bruno sitting deeper to spread play to these speed merchants. Bit like Scholes to the likes of Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney. We will see.

A small observation. don't know anything about sesko but having seen him on you tube the power he generates in his shots is incredible. whether he will be prolific in pl who knows but talk about striking a ball it's really something to see.

Havent seen enough of Sesko, watched him a few times in ECL amd some highlights. Physically he looks a handful.

Watkins is a good player just not top drawer.

For me if Amorim and his team believe they can turn Sesko into a top drawer striker then hebshould be the choice.

Whilst i do expect us to improve this year i think we are three good summer windows (including this one if it turns out to be one) from being able to challenge so if they can turn Sesko into that man by then its a better option.

From what I was told this morning by some Villa fans, Watkins has been told by the club that he’s not for sale and is going nowhere.

If we could get Watkins for £20m or so I could perhaps see the value in bringing him in on a three year deal, but reports suggest he’d cost £50m+, and for that kind of fee, we’d presumably be offering him a five year deal, by the end of which he’d be in his mid thirties and way past his best.

With that in mind, I’d rather pay a little more for Sesko. Greater potential, longevity, and resale value give him a big edge over Watkins’ EPL experience, not that he’s proven himself to be a consistent 20+ goals a season striker. Now, if Watkins was a Cavani or Ibra type player? Maybe then I’d be willing to entertain the idea of bringing him in instead of Sesko.

A better player, if he had the Mindset! So that makes him not a better player, because it’s not only natural ability that makes a elite level player, Sancho is probably a better player if he had the mindset too… but they don’t, so bit ridiculous really….

Nope germansuppclub that still makes Marcus a better player than Watkins don't know why you think that his mindset doesn't he is by far a better player the 30 goals he scored 2 seasons ago shows he is the fact he just can't keep consistent and he seems to sulk and not work hard enough is what I meant by mindset.

Let’s harp back to a season he scored 30 goals which he never got near before or since then! Where all seasons Watkins been consistent with goals and assist, never seen anyone moan about his work rate even Mbeumo said this week great player to have in your team and play alongside….
What did Rashford score last season was it 4? Your view is all Ifs and Ands
Yes Rashford got talent but talent alone that make you a great player
Ask any professional and they would rather have a team player in the team then a selfish over inflated ego who chips in with 4 goals.
