Can much be made of tactical set ups in the first pre-season game?

Often these are just about fitness, where you regularly see two totally different 11's in each half.

You didn't need to watch a pre-season game to write what has been written here. It's just what he did at Feyenoord but with Liverpool players instead.

Maybe that's what he ends up doing, or maybe he adapts it to suit the Liverpool squad, or the EPL.

Look at how Klopp set up Liverpool in his first season and his final season to appreciate that top managers adapt their tactics/ style to suit both the players they have and the current tactical context of the league they play in.

It was still very much a Klopp team, but it wasn't a carbon copy of his Dortmund side, or even his first Liverpool side.

I rate Slot and think he has potential to be a very good manager, but much like watching the first couple of United games this pre-season, it's pretty much impossible to draw any solid conclusions about how the team will set up to play or the tactics the manager will use this season based on these games.

Good points Shappy, although it's always pleasing to see them lose. Especially to an ex-United player lobbing the keeper from 40-odd yards. Things you love to see.

Big season coming up for Liverpool. Not just with the post-Klopp era, but with VVD, Trent and Salah all out of contract and Mac Allister's release clause becoming active next summer.
