Great article Ed.

A fascinating character. Probably would have also been the best cyclist in the world if it was a clean sport.

He was special.

{Ed001's Note - very possibly. Hard to tell though as he had the advantage of the doping at a much higher level than anyone else.}

Excellent read. An idol of mine once upon a time. Now just a cheating juicer.

{Ed001's Note - thank you Fizz. It is a shame but he was just the worst of the cheats.}

They're all cheats in that game fizz. I honestly couldn't care less.

Prior to the EPO ed, he was already very special.

Best one for me is Bradley Wiggins, never climbed a hill in his life, then becomes the best haha.

angel, I know.

{Ed001's Note - just to point out, sorry I didn't get the chance to edit so couldn't reply on angel's post, but there was no prior to the EPO for Armstrong. That is the whole point. He was on EPO from the moment he turned pro.}

I am thoroughly convinced that anyone who wins the TdF is doping. Also, regarding Lance, he is a SUPREME athlete who now wins Ironman competition, so there is no doubt he could have won. Plus, he was not using synthetic PHD, he was injecting his own red blood cells. Yes, that is illegal, however we cannot diminish, knowing the full picture, his athletic ability.

{Ed001's Note - so let's just excuse his cheating? Would you say that if he was not American? I doubt it.}

I thought he did a couple of years prior to EPO, pretty sure at least one tour.

{Ed001's Note - no mate, he started EPO use back in 1995.}

they're all cheating Ed lol. Cycling the dirtiest of the lot.

{Ed001's Note - it is certainly one of the worst.}

Yes Ed but did he not race in the Tour in 93, prior to EPO usage.

I think that's the story he tells anyway.

{Ed001's Note - yes, but before EPO he was unable to compete and pulled out of the event both times early on. He couldn't cope with the mountains at all without the help of EPO.}

Oh for sure, EPO transferred him into a monster in the mountains.

But he did win a stage prior to EPO.

EPO is horrible stuff, makes your blood gloopy. There’s stories of pro’s having to get up in the middle of the night for short turbo sessions to shift the blood round. Having been in the cycling world for as long as I can remember, I dare say there are other indiscriminate methods now been used…….

{Ed001's Note - there is always something new.}
