Whilst I agree we need a more of a threat from the right hand side to give our attack more balance and less predictability.

I feel the two main areas we let ourselves down is an inability to not concede goals and a lack of creativity.

Often I think people see a lack of creativity as a winger or wide player issue, not stretching teams or not running in behind. However, they forget to go back to the source of the problem. If no one is controlling the game and making the pass to set them free then they can't run in behind.

In our team the problem is the only midfielder we have who does this is Pogba, and he is consistently inconsistent, often looking for the Hollywood ball rather than the effective one.

It's no coincidence that our ability to create goals and control games dropped off a cliff when Scholes retired, both first and second time.

We need to solve that issue and bring in a quality midfielder who can control the tempo and has the vision to start the attacks. That will go a long way to solve BOTH the problem of shipping too many goals and give us a better chance of scoring more goals.

Agree shappy we need a strong defensive base which will allow our midfield to be more attack minded who can then service the forwards. A scholes or Carrick type player is essential.

Shappy, I would rather say our finishing is poor. Permit me to modify your piece to say our inability to avoid conceding coupled with our inability to score/ convert chances.
Of course our team could use some creativity, like you rightly said Pogba isn't consistent enough and Mata hardly plays anymore.
However that said a RW is a must!

Shappy, we’ve needed a RW for probably 5 years now.

We’ve never gone out and bought one.

A couple of seasons ago I think we had the best or second best defensive record in the league but still didn’t bring in a RW.

Now our defence has deteriorated and RW becomes less of a priority.

No doubt about it we need strengthening in every area of the pitch, but we’ve become the most predictable team in the league. Everything goes down the left, of Martial plays there it slows everything down, and we lose possession.

We need to bring back back that unpredictable element which comes with a balanced XI.

The only thing we can’t predict these days is the number of goals we’re going to concede.
