It looks like United are going to miss out on Gakpo. This is embarrassing ?.

It really isn't its frustrating as a fan we be don't even know if we made an offer for the player. It is frustrating and we do seem very slow to act on transfers until the situation gets desperate.

We can't sign everyone. Gakpo looks a good player who ETH clearly likes the look of but we can't get them all.

Looks like we are still discussing Joao Felix, maybe the club have opted to go for him instead?

Personally, I don't think either Gakpo or Felix are what we need. We need a number 9.

Embarrassing how? The same nonsense was spouted in the summer when they signed Nunez, we can’t sign every player you want us to sign, we need a central striker and we have a young kid coming through who plays in the exact same position as Gakpo so it’s hardly a priority position.

Or perhaps ETH doesn't want him or perhaps we did want him and he chose Liverpool. We won't know the truth til later but no point stressing about it. I would prefer us to get an out and out target man as we already have Rashford and Martial who can play from wing to wing. So far I have been pleased with ETHs signings let's hope he gets the player he wants and that we need.

Sign Gapko and have 4 players who favour the left hand side?

He can play as a ST but so can Rashford and Martial of which he isn't better than either.

We also have Garnacho who plays on the left.

Liverpool will also have a problem once Jota and Diaz are back fit as they'll be heavy up top and be some sulkers. He's a top player but maybe we have other options.

We need a ST not another hybrid forward.

We really need an orthodox no9 but I’m struggling to think of any players to fit that mould. They are in short supply. Gakpo isn’t that and neither is felix. Hopefully we have a clear vision and idea of who we want.

We "missed" out on Nunez suppposedly and thank god because he's brutal. Gakpo looks great in Holland but we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. If we have gone for him and he's chosen Liverpool over us then that's because we're currently seen below them to some players.

Onwards and upwards lads. I wouldn't be fretting on missing out on a winger make shift forward.

Good player, can play centre forward, but not his favoured position, I wouldn't of complained if we'd of got him, but I'd prefer a centre forward that can also play in the wide positions than a wide player who can play centre forward.

This morning we were supposedly in for Gakpo and Felix. Leaving us with Sancho, Garnacho, Rashford, Anthony, Martial, Elanga plus those two. We can’t have everyone. Liverpool have form when it comes down to sorting deals quickly and efficiently I’ll give them that. But Utd will have known what was going on. I assume there is a preferred target and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Elanga or Pellistri shipped out.

When did Liverpool start this negotiation, when did we decide to make an offer? There is a bunch of stuff I don't think anyone knows outside of the clubs involved so I can't judge how long it took Liverpool, how long we've been trying to seal this, how Liverpool have gazumped us, whether we wanted him or whether the Galzers have shut the purse tight. So how some of the conclusion on here have been jumped too I don't know. All I know is that I really don't believe anything I read in papers in online media at all regarding transfers, so when opinions are formed on what amounts to little more than an unprovidenced story from an outlet who's job it is to sell stories than I don't form any conclusion.

I also know that Liverpool are going to be very dangerous when they start signing good Midfielders and not more forwards.

With Nunez and Gapko Liverpool have bought well and with the future in mind too as they are both young and with Klopp coaching should get better. Nunez just needs a few goals and with that his confidence will rise and he will start scoring plenty. It will be interesting to see which position Gapko plays and how he adapts to a much tougher league than the eredivisie.

I trust ETH to get the right player for how he wants to play. I really don't know if he is ready but I would love to see Mcneil from the youth team given a chance.

Was disappointed when we opted for Anthony over Gakpo in the summer and am even more disappointed to see the lad go to Liverpool for so little now (at least by today’s standards) . I can see him being a fantastic signing for them, and although Klopp may have some issues once everybody is fully fit again, having too many top attacking players is a much better problem to have than not having nearly enough.

Not really sure where that leaves us now. I’m not too keen on Felix and can see him going to Arsenal anyway. Maybe Juve could be persuaded to part with Vlahovic, but I’m not convinced that he’s any better than Gakpo in the goal scoring department and lacks the versatility to boot.

When we want a player his name has to crop up in interviews and the media for 6 months first.
Felix is an interesting option but I guess whoever we sign the money men will be haggling for a month before anything happens.

It isn’t embarrassing, at the moment Liverpool are seen as at a higher level than us, it’s our own fault because of years of incompetence. Gakpo is a wide player, but only a makeshift central forward. We have options wide but CF options are weak.
Personally I think we need a CF mobile goal scoring threat. The lad who got the hat trick for Portugal, Ramos looked useful, but given the ownership situation we may not spend anything in Jan.

Thanks Ed, that is interesting and actually good news in some ways, because I would like to see what Garnacho achieves. No offer could mean United don’t have the money or have come to their senses about another player too similar to what they already have or United knew Liverpool were first choice anyway.

Spurs are sniffing around Dybala coutinho and fernandes. So eriksen will be sold by the look of it.
Epl proven. Not a mental price looking at alternatives.
If he comes he will be coming for the money for the most part but also for a new challenge that's important.
He has a dodgy rep in the big games. All on all id consider him to be a very good option and relatively lower risk than dybala and fernandes although id take coutinho over any of them even with his Liverpool history.

I think Maguire will be our last signing, Dybala never wanted to come and Fernandes will go elsewhere. United will finish 6th again in the league. Only positive next season is the style of play might be more interesting. Roll on Saturday 👍.

Not a meltdown but the squad needs reinforcements to finish above 6th. Players need to come in and not long left.
