Hey ed001, I know you're a well connected guy and have been answering transfer questions on other pages. But do you know if Gyokeres is someone united are pursuing as a possible transfer?
{Ed001's Note - he is an odd one, everyone looks but no one wants to actually pay up and sign him. Amorim likes him and he loves Amorim apparently, so I would not be surprised if a move is made when you clear the decks.}

Managers normally like to bring a player they have worked with before.
A striker is a must for us I think if we can get some sales in we will sign him.
Other than gyokores, oshimen and i'd say kane there’s not many strikers out there
The pool for strikers is so poor compared to the 2000s
A dying breed strikers atm.

Doing it in Portugal is one thing the EPL is a different animal, it's always a risk.
04 Jun 2025 14:11:39
Watching Gyorkeres in the Champions League and minimal you tube match highlights for Sporting he definitely looks decent especially if the £55m is true.
The only issue is we have been burned previously with players from the Managers old team. but if the price is reasonable and the system being specific I feel like this is one that would work.
The longer time goes on the more other clubs seem to be moving for other targets, we may be doing work behind the scenes which is why nothing with other clubs is coming out. The way Mbuemo information went we could suddenly get news he has chosen us and discussions with Sporting!
I would defintely take our front 3 if he does come in. defenses will not get a minutes rest with the work rate.
04 Jun 2025 14:25:48
Yes AJH, but his numbers are incredible. Like, not just good numbers, incredible numbers, both domestic and in Europe. And with strikers, it's all about confidence, and Gyokeres has that in abundance. I think he would be a great signing.
Ed001 thanks. I thought he would be ideal for arsenal and liverpool, particularly given his asking price, it's very attractive. But because they haven't made a move for him or they seem to be looking elsewhere, it has me thinking that he may have made a commitment already to someone else. It was with RA that those numbers were reached. So here's to hoping they can get that done.
04 Jun 2025 15:25:24
I'm pretty down about our situation, but if we can move on Rash, Sancho, Antony, and Garnacho, and replace with Cuenha Mbuemo, and Gyokeres, then we may see a significant uplift.
04 Jun 2025 17:15:38
Cunha, Mbuemo, and Gyokeres would be an incredible front three.
04 Jun 2025 18:14:04
Well, I did read a private rumour that someone in Portugal knows Gyokeres and he wants to come to us. No idea if true but this is a rumour site and have to wonder why Arsenal are not all over him.
I suspect the financial year end is 30th June so the club may wish to push some financial outlay when buying into July, whilst selling and have that income in year end June 25 . Depends also, what day pre season starts because RA will want to have them mainly in as early as possible.
04 Jun 2025 19:55:49
Red man. I think Gyokeres has said to them he doesn't want to go there. It's the only reason I can think of.
04 Jun 2025 21:14:06
Watch me be completely wrong by the way ?.
04 Jun 2025 21:24:21
Red Man, I think there could be something in your post. I’ve read a couple places that Gyokeres loves Amorim and visa versa so clearly a relationship there. It is strange there are not more rumours of clubs pushing for him, he would be the most sort after striker that is available this summer you’d have thought. And the financial year point is fair and perhaps with their previous work, Amorim would be happier for a player like him to come in later as he knows what Amorim would want in his system as opposed to others who Amorim would be new to this so the urgency may not be as important for Gyokeres. Shift some players out between now and then to make financials easier. Or this could all be complete nonsense and he’s on his way to Newcastle ?.
04 Jun 2025 23:42:10
I think people forget Gyokeres has already played in England and was very good, ask Coventry fans what they think of him, they will all tell you he’s the real deal. Ok it was the championship but he’s proved he can handle English football, I think that’s a positive on top of the fact he’s scored over 50 goals in a season, no mean feat anywhere.
04 Jun 2025 23:42:13
Ssvredman aludes to wanting push purchases back to 30th June for Accoubting reasons makes sense but so to does sales. If right now you have balanced PSR for the last three years then there is a benefit to the future by moving sales to July.
04 Jun 2025 23:50:08
I'd be completely stunned if we somehow ended this window with a completely new front free of Cunha/ Mbeumo/ Gyokeres.
On Gyokeres, I think without the RA connection most would probably be urging us to steer clear, it's only the Portuguese league, he was at Coventry etc. Ok he's no Rooney or van the man but this is the guy RA made, he's the single-most suitable player for this club right now bar none. Surprised no-one has already snapped him up tbh unless he's waiting for something. If it doesn't happen, well I guess he just makes another one.
05 Jun 2025 11:50:11
Also, mostly why players struggle in pl is because of the physical side and pace.
He has got both in abundance.
05 Jun 2025 12:14:33
Absolutely spot on GDS2.
I am from Coventry so saw a lot of him and he is a great player. The old argument comes in regarding players from foreign leagues. Can they do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke? Yes - He scored against them 3 times in 6 games.
05 Jun 2025 12:26:21
I'll be astonished but delighted if we can get Gyokeres. Obviously, he knows Amorim and the system but he has played in England, is able to fashion chances for himself with the ball at his feet as well as being a physical presence. He's also scored a shed load in the last few years. Probably the best striker we could hope for right now.
A front 3 of Mbuemo, Cunha and Gyokeres should, I stress should, bring us a significant upgrade in attack next season, especially if we can get a quality midfielder in to play alongside Bruno that can allow him to get forward too.
05 Jun 2025 14:26:48
I still think Hojlund can be our main man in a few years, and I think Gyokeres could be key to helping him fulfil his potential.
Firstly, Hojlund needs to have the pressure taken off him. Gyokeres would naturally be first choice, moving Hojlund to backup/ impact sub etc. Being clear 2nd choice to one of the top strikers in the world won't hit his confidence like being 2nd choice behind a lesser striker, and confidence is clearly an area he's already struggling in.
Secondly, there is probably no-one better he could learn from in terms of learning to play the role Amorim wants him to fill. He has the raw attributes for it, he just needs to learn how to pull it all together, and working with Gyokeres can help with that.
Meanwhile Gyokeres is the perfect fit as a first choice striker for Amorim and will go a long way to solving our goal shortage by himself.
05 Jun 2025 15:59:00
One of the top strikers in the world! That’s a bit of a stretch, let’s not go that far, yes great if we could get him, but he is not one of the best in the world…
Plus Rasmus ego to big to accept being back up, he won’t never be what we need, coaches been working with him non stop and he getting worse not better! That’s a worry.
05 Jun 2025 16:26:02
Something seems a little off to me with Gyokeres. Sporting are willing to let him go for £25m less than his buy out clause. He’s scored buckets of goals and yet nobody has shown any concrete interest that we know of.
You’d think with his goals record and the lack of available strikers in the market there would be a queue for him.
Just weird that there’s not much happening with him. Maybe it will all start in July, or maybe there is lots going on in the background that we don’t know about, or maybe it’s because he wants United.
05 Jun 2025 20:21:10
It was reported last year that if he stayed for another year then Sporting would drop the price this year.
As for interest I don't know how to gauge this, maybe his management company don't know anyone on Tik Tok. I do know the window opened on the 1st June and the accounting year ends on 30th June.
Plus it was Vic's birthday yesterday, I hope Amorim remembered to WhatsApp him.
05 Jun 2025 21:26:07
Reading some of the Sporting fan pages they seem to want him to move on to bigger things and use the money to reinvest, plus the have Conrad Harder who they expect big things of.
06 Jun 2025 20:49:43
I’m coming around to the idea that he’s 100% signing for us.
His numbers are too good. Other sides would want him but they’ve obviously been told no.
Mbuemo to be in by the 10th, then sell, sell, sell for the rest of June. Garnacho, Rashford, Sancho, Antony should all bring in £125m combined. They Gyokeres comes in and Hojlund leaves on loan.
07 Jun 2025 11:40:44
Downsie, the problem is that not all the money brought in from those players will be profit that can be used to reinforce the squad.
Rashford will sell for 30-35m in my opinion, the club want 40m but I don't see any buyers prepared to take on his wages or even come close to them. However, whatever he goes for is pure profit.
Garnacho the club wants 60m, I expect something more like 45m plus add-ons taking it to something like 55 or 60m in the end. This would also be pure profit.
In theory the club wants 100m from them two, in reality it'll probably be more like 80m, at least in the short term.
Sancho we still owe 17m on amortisation for him. So only money above that figure counts at profit. Which sadly it is unlikely we get much above that amount for him.
Antony we still owe 35m on amortisation for him. It'll be a miracle if we get someone willing to pay that much for him, let alone more to garner a profit. I'd expect us to agree a loan deal with an obligation to buy next summer for around 30m which might actually be better for us as by that time we will only owe around 20m on amortisation for him meaning we on paper make around a 10m profit.
There are very few players in our squad that we can actually sell for a guaranteed profit.
Bruno, Mainoo, Shaw, Dalot and Collyer are the other ones alongside Rashford and Garnacho.
Of those we might get 10-15m for Collyer, Dalot should fetch 25-30m, Mainoo 45-50m, and Shaw we would be lucky to get 5m given his wages and injuries. While Bruno has committed himself to the club.
The only one of these players I see us possibly selling is Collyer, with maybe an outside chance of Mainoo if someone came in and made a silk offer for him.
All the other players in our squad we have to sell for at least a certain amount before we get any profit from them. Whereas if we sell them for sell than that then it actually counts as a loss and reduces our budget.
Casemiro needs to go for at least 18m, Onana for at least 30m, Højlund for at least 38m, Mount 35m, MdL 40m, Martinez 25m, Mazraoui 8m, Malacia 4m, Ugarte 38m, Amad 12m, Zirkzee 22m, and Bayindir 8m. Maguire because we triggered the one year option we would need to do some sort of agreement with him to split any potential fee with him to avoid profiteering issues. Which ultimately means we get little to nothing from that deal.
There are a few players there that we might be able to gain a profit for (Amad and Mazraoui probably, but we wouldn't want to sell them), most of them a fairly small one (Malacia, Bayindir, and Zirkzee we might be able to raise 5-8m profit from each of them) . The rest we would be lucky to break even on.
There will be a lot of players leaving this summer, but few of them will actually raise any funds to replace them in our squad. They get the wages off the wage bill, but that's about it.
I expect the club to try and have a purge this summer, take advantage of not being in Europe and having less games to cut the squad down and have a smaller squad with more reliance on the academy for squad depth. A year with lower expenditure on wages will help out PSR. Then if we get back into Europe next season then we can look to fill out the squad a bit more next summer to cope with the increase in games.
I see 12 to 15 players leaving in total across the first team squad (one of Onana/ Bayindir, Evans, Malacia, Lindelof, Eriksen, Gore, one of Collyer/ Casemiro, Rashford, Antony, Sancho, Garnacho, Wheatley, and possibly Højlund) . Possibly seeing both Bayindir and Onana and both Casemiro and Collyer leave if we get acceptable offered for all of them. I'd imagine Collyer and Bayindir are more likely to leave than Onana and Casemiro as we stand to make more money from them and they are easier to shift.
Then we will likely sign 5 players to go into the first team (GK, CM, AM, Cunha, ST) . With maybe 2-3 youngsters to initially go into the academy like we did with Obi and Kone.
Which means twice as many leave our first team as join making our squad smaller by 6 or 7 players.
