New £45m plus £5m add on bid in for Jarrod Branthwaite. I have felt that £55m top is enough for us to go to, I imagine Everton will reject this offer but apparently Branthwaite wants the move so could happen at some point I feel.

No way Everton sell for 55 million i'm Everton fan we want aleast 75 million which still robbery considering you paid 80 for maguire. He will be better then stones and can see him going real in year time if he stays. Think utd be awful move for him he be better of at city.

WRD

Won't be happening.

He apparently 'wants' the move, but he won't make things difficult for Everton, presumably because he knows that City would certainly pay that requested fee for yet another left-footed CB next summer.

United need to drop that bid, wait for the deserved rejection, and just move on. Imagine we haggle on this all summer and don't get it over the line because Everton are doing precisely what they should, then what?

As great a prospect as Branthwaite is, there is better value out there - Arsenal's next signing Calafiori being a great example.

United need to box clever and doing the routine 'United' dance this summer will certainly give fans reason enough to get irritated.
If SJR's reign is different, then we move on after this bid.

Settle down Bretto, he has had one good season, doesn't make him worth silly money.

Unless you are Chelsea, the age of paying ridiculous fees for players is over.

09 Jul 2024 06:42:32
The cost of Maguire has nothing to do with the cost of Branthwaite.

Also Maguire is currently the better player.

09 Jul 2024 07:53:08
Wazza,

I think that's an insult to Branthwaite ?.

09 Jul 2024 08:11:59
No chance he’s worth £80m just cz we overpaid for Maguire, £55m I think is fair value for a prospect with 1 good year under his belt, but like the above said just move onto the next unless we have a further bid in mind and we do seem to be doing business smarter this summer. If the player is keen to come then he may have to voice this to help push a move through, I don’t see how City is a good move, more than enough CBs there already.

09 Jul 2024 09:04:52
I think City or even Spurs will gazump us anyway around the 60 -63 mill mark. He has had one good season, and comparing his price to Maguires price is daft- clubs moving on from that nonsense now. Chelsea threw money at centre halfs these last 2 seasons and have ended up with nothing to show for it Not too bothered if we miss out on him now because it feels like we might actually have a plan B or C now with this new management team.

Personally I think todibo and braithwaite were are number 1 targets for the 2 cbs positions

De ligt was something that just came about out the blue that is an opportunity in the market you can’t pass up

With the todibo deal dead in the water

I still think we will come back with another offer once we get the de ligt and zirkzee deals done

Maybe even after trying to get ugarte.

Think we need to make sales before we go back in for a 3rd offer maybe Everton will come down and be flexible with the 60/ 70 million price and settle at 50/ 60

We can offer some addons and goals that would be achievable given his age.

We still have the likes of
Erickson
Caseimiro
Mctominay
Maguire
Linder

Who we can consider selling if there are teams interested

Selling greenwood for 25 million will add quite a lot of onto the psr with him being 100 percent profit when we sell him.

Bretto, let me get this straight, if I pay a taxi driver 40% more than the going rate for a trip, you'd be completely fine and expect all of your taxi fees to be 40% more afterwards?

United massively overpaid for Maguire, everyone knows it, and you can't base the value of any future signings on one club over paying for a player once.

Branthwaite like any player is only worth what another club will pay for him.

If 60m is the maximum anyone is prepared to pay for him this summer then he's worth 60m. Now Everton might choose not to sell at that price in the hope that he might be worth more in the future, or because they'd rather keep him in the side.

However, if he has a poor year next season, or god forbid suffers a serious injury then he'll be worth less than the highest bid made for him this summer. It's very much a gamble when a club chooses to keep hold of a young player in the hope that he'll be worth more next summer.

Personally I think United are doing the right thing, they are sorting deals for players like Zirkzee and Ugarte, deals that are fairly straight forward to complete, and improve the squad in key areas.

The reports have been all year that United ideally want at least two CB's this summer, with Martinez being the only one they deem as good enough and a long term option. Unfortunately he has spent nearly 50% of his time at the club out injured. Which is a concern and a big reason why the club feels they need a minimum of two CB's this summer.

I think the original plan was to Chase Branthwaite as the big signing they want to make, while having a deal for Todibo sitting in the back which would be easy to tie up. They could sign Todibo when the timing was right and if need chase Branthwaite all summer. If it meant getting him on deadline day it wasn't a problem as they will have already got one CB across the line.

However, UEFA's ruling seems to have put the kibosh on that plan, with the clubs response seemingly to try and take advantage of a situation in the market where they could sign MdL for a similar fee to what they would probably have paid for Todibo.

I'd expect we'll see deals for the likes of Zirkzee, Ugarte and MdL be tied up within the next two weeks. Probably once their international sides are no longer competing at tournaments.

The club will then likely switch focus to selling players and getting money in and clearing the squad, while continuing to chase Branthwaite for the rest of the summer until they can finalise a deal with Everton.

The fact the club continue to negotiate and make offers suggests that they know Everton will sell at the right price and that it will be lower than their original 75m price tag.

It'll probably come down to agreeing how, when and why certain payments are made. Everton might have to choose between a larger potential final package with bigger total fee, but a smaller up front fee with a large amount tied into to meeting certain markers over the next 3-4 years or so. Or to choose a smaller total package with more paid up front and less dependant on meeting certain targets.

Maybe something like either a 70m total package, with 45m up front and 25m dependant on meeting certain targets, probably with most of that 25m being easier targets and a smaller amount on hard less achievable targets (20m-5m), meaning they'll probably get 65-68m in total.
Or a smaller total package of say 60m, with 50m up front and 10m dependant on fairly achievable targets.

Which kind of deal Everton accept will depend on their financial position, what replacements they can get, and on what sort of deals.

As they say the devil will be in the detail and we aren't likely to ever know the exact details of any deal struck. As always the press will report the highest possible potential figure as they looks more shocking and gets more readership.

I expect United will end up paying somewhere between 50-60m up front, with some add-ons dependant on meeting certain targets. I'd also expect this deal to be concluded later in the window, probably after we come back form our pre-season tour.

Bretto,

Why do you think he would be better ‘of’ at City? They don’t need a centre half, they have loads, surely he would be better at his age at a club where he will get lots of game time? Or was that your attempt at banter?

09 Jul 2024 14:56:28
GDS2, City have 4 CB’s in Ake, Dias, Stones and Akanji. Ake plays at LB a lot though so you could say they have 3 CB’s. City also need more HG players so I imagine they’ll be targeting them for CB and replacements for KDB/ Silva and K. Phillips as and when they leave.

09 Jul 2024 15:34:48
Fuser, you are forgetting Gvardiol who is primarily a centre back, which means they have 5 CB's on their books bought for a combined cost of £242m. Will they really be looking to spend a further 60-80m on Branthwaite?

09 Jul 2024 19:11:54
I think they play better style then utd he ball playing cb and united don't seem play that way. If he leaves Everton he needs go team who going to compete for trophies and utd aren't at that stage at moment. Look price killman he 40 million and he 27 . Brainwaite is on long term contract. I personally dunno why u aren't going for marc guehi.

09 Jul 2024 19:34:06
Fuser, if we’ve learned anything this summer, it’s that you can’t replace Kalvin Phillips.

09 Jul 2024 19:48:45
Think there are a few in for Guehi, maybe we don't want to get into a bidding war.
