Do the Eds / posters know if there remains interest in Jude Bellingham? Dortmund perhaps unlikely to let go of two superstars in the same summer but money talks. All the big clubs will be looking at Bellingham at some point. I personally see him ending up at Liverpool next year. Along with Rice at Chelsea and Phillips at City. But who knows. If United were bidding for Nunez (as seems likely) but were just too incompetent to handle multiple deals at once that may suggest budget available. I appreciate we have multiple positions to fund but having been bit once with not being decisive enough on Nunez (could've apparently secured him a month ago) could we bring forward our interest in a player who is likely the next hot property midfield wise?

{Ed002's Note - Yes but he is not moving this summer.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Ed002. Massive season ahead for United. And Nunez shows how vital Champs League is to attract top talent. United would have to be in UCL to tempt Bellingham or Rice I think. We may get De Jong over the line but seems more because Barcelona need to sell and chance to work with his old boss. UCL is and frankly should be a must for any top player. Always surprised me about Kane - especially his committing to a longer term deal at Spurs with no guarantee of UCL on poorer wages than he’d get elsewhere. Madness.

I think Top 4 may be a hard ask this season but hope Ten Hag can get a tune out of whichever new players and the squad he’s inheriting. Already a fight in essence for 3rd or 4th with City and Liverpool both doubling down on their attacking strength.

We are competing against Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham and possibly Newcastle I think.

Right now if you were Nunez you would have chosen Liverpool over United.

Look at the respective clubs, Klopp is currently refreshing his squad to build his next great team, moving out the aging guys and bringing replacements in, better to move on a year too early than too late.

Hate to say it but JK, loved by his clubs fans, loved by his players, doing whatever is needed to keep moving his club moving forward, even engaging in a but of tapping up were needed reminds me so much of someone.

Ahh we had so it so good for so long.

Also both managers in their first few years had sections of their fanbase who wanted them gone as they were never going to be good enough.

Ed do you think we will push for Florian Wirts next year?

{Ed002's Note - I really have no idea.}

Personally i would not be overly bothered if we did not get DeJong, the odd games I have seen him play for Barca, (live I might add) he never looked that great, been quite easily brushed aside and it’s nowhere near as physical as the premier, bit like Donny in my opinion, yes both technically very gifted, but both weak, You look at Eriksen very technically gifted but also strong on the ball and not afraid to put his foot in, De Jong and Donny nothing like that, so are they suited to premier i'm not so sure! I’m hoping ETH is right though and I’m million miles off.
What’s Donny had 3 managers now in premier failed to impress any!

That's where it comes down to the Coaching staff and the player to train not just on strength but also the technique and attitude to handle the physicality.

Exactly Oak, so I hope that ETH knows best and he thinks DeJong can be taught that, but they also have very good coaches at Barcelona and he still be found wanting! Donny I think Zero chance, we have no idea at this point even if ETH thinks Donny got a chance.

Interestingly there were comments supposedly attributed to Ten Hag in 2020 about De Jong at Barcelona saying they are using him wrong and he should be playing much deeper dictating play and pace rather than Barcelona playing him much higher up the pitch.

He also is quite as saying to get the best out of him he played him as one of a pair of No 6s. Quite a lot of Dutch ex pros and managers are saying something similar.

Might be an insight on how we will play under Ten Hag.

De Jong himself has lots of praise for DvB and his ability to let De Jong flourish. Again maybe a clue, maybe nothing.

I understand we all have opinions but reading your posts has given me mine about your football knowledge, and that is you're absolutely clueless about what makes a good player and what doesn't. What's this obsession with physicality, the best teams have technical players not physical. Our midfield is Fred and mctominnay who are both known as physical as you say, and I'd take de Jong and van de beek over them anyday of the week. Just look at all the physical midfielders city has that dominate this physical league as you say. Stop spewing your opinion you're clueless.

Bernardo Silva looks 5ft8 and about 7 stone by the looks of him. Not exactly The Rock in terms of physicality is he? Yet still a great player. A midfielder can get away with being less physical, especially a skilful one with a good footballing brain. Physicality argument I can understand in a centre back or forward but not all your midfielders need that in the modern game.

I don't think Donny has any trouble dealing with physicality.

While Luka Modric has all the physical attributes of a wet paper bag. That didn't stop him flourishing in the EPL and being one of the best midfielders of his generation.

Donny has struggled at both United and Everton for one reason only, style of play. He works best in a team that plays a high line possession based game. His best attributes are finding space and linking play with his teammates. He is a facilitator, the German term is a raumdeuter.

He has struggled as he has played in teams that don't work as a team that don't have extended periods of possession in the opposition half.

Depending how quickly EtH can get his ideas across and get the team playing as he would like, I think Donny could do very well.

At the very least Donny provides EtH with an ally in the dressing room, someone who knows his methods and can hopefully act as a bridge between the manager and the players.

Exactly, you can go on and on. Mahrez, de bryune, foden none are physical players, but they have a football brain and the physical aspect doesn't hold them back. David Silva was amazing tiny guy, Juan Mata at Chelsea was amazing, Paul scholes not very big was a great midfielder, and many many others. You can be as big as you want but if you don't know how to pass the ball you're nothing. Barcelona destroyed everyone with xavi and iniesta, not physically strong. Luka modric isn't a strong guy he's one of the best Center mids in the world, verrati, soooo many other players I can name.
