Hi Ed, my apologies if this has been covered recently, I think not since the new coach was brought in. There's news today from Villarreal reports that Pau Torres agent is discussing a move with Manchester United. Are they still interested and pursuing him following the appointment of the new coach, and would it be tied to departures beyond the expected (Bailly, Jones)?

{Ed002's Note - Yes there will remain interest.}

But Shappy says he’s not good enough!

Shappy said he had concerns that Pau Torres may lack the physicality for the EPL and has tended to play in a low to mid block defensive set up and wonders whether he could adapt to playing a high line.

Torres has some great aspects about his game, however he is bullied off the ball too easily in La Liga for me, he also lacks aerial prowess, often beaten in the air. That is in La Liga, the EPL is a much more physical league and I wonder how well he could adapt to that physical battle, as it is something that he hasn't shown yet in his career.

Try watching him and see what you think, and consider how his skills might translate to the EPL. Lindelof looked a much stronger and more physical player in Liga Nos than Torres looks in La Liga.

looks a good modern CH with the ball at his feet, but very easily bullied and looks no tougher than Lindelof which is a worry.

From what I’ve seen of Pau Torres, I’d be concerned too. Tidy on the ball but not the most physical. He tends to turn inside on the edge of his box a lot too. A worrying habit for a centre half.

If Erik reckons he's up to what he needs then that's good enough for me.

What would be the point? We're getting Timber in, and we already have a limited transfer budget. I'd be amazed if this happens.

Can’t see it happening:

Timber (presuming he arrives) will be the long term centre back, possibly playing right back or defensive midfield until those positions are adequately filled.

Also Torres very expensive when funds needed for elsewhere.

Obviously our defence has been the most awful aspect of our play this season but, with some proper coaching and a better midfield in front of them, I’d expect them to improve considerably.

I doubt it Wallace. Ten Hag likes interchangeable players (rotate within 2 positions during the game) . That means highly mobile players. He also builds from deep which means highly technical defenders. Daley Blind is a prime example, and while not quick is very mobile and plays multiple positions. From our defence I only see Lindelof and Varane as being anywhere close to what he might want.
