So the story out now is that utd are prepared to walk away if sporting don't lower their price. Why does it feel like every transfer is a saga for utd? It's so boring a bit like Brexit.

Absolute sham. Just pay the asking price or near enough. We are in no place to be haggling over this deal.

It’s a saga because the media make it one. Both Sporting and Utd are well within their rights to have views on his value. My guess is that we are scarred by our recent failures in the market wasting millions on dross.

He obviously wants to leave and utd are probably using this to get the price down, maybe they should ask him to put in transfer request? after all we are always screwed when it comes to selling players, I have no isuue with us trying to lower the price.

This is a tactic we've used in previous windows. In the summer we signed Wan Bisaka and James fairly early on. Then we went onto Maguire. Leicester said 80 million and we said no. Dragged out for the whole summer and we eventually stump up the cash for him a few days before the window closed.

If we had of signed Maguire early in the window there would have been pressure to complete another signing or two. We delayed and delayed beacsue as long as we are "negotiating" we look like we're proactive. We sign Maguire late on and everyone is just relieved that we got it over the line.

Fast forward to this window. We've known we need recruitments in January. We've known the player is willing to come and we've know Sportings stance on the matter. Same again, if we sign him January 2nd, there is pressure to sign another few players in this window. But we will drag it out another week, stump up the cash Sporting want and then we will "run out of time" to complete any other signings.

Fans are happy because we have signed what looks like a very good player. Board are praised but in reality this should have been done earlier and maybe another addition or two added to give Ole a fighting chance at top 4.

It's the line united are leaking to their media buddies that annoys me'united aren't willing to overpay' BS we overpay for pretty much everyone not only in fees but wages also. Be prepared for no Bruno but a 5 year deal for jesse on 250k a week.

The most laughable thing is the list of excuses being doled out by the club, too expensive, don't want to affect future transfers, focused on the summer etc etc. Yet we all know come the summer there won't be a plan, negotiations won't have started, we will employ the same tactics and scattergun approach and end up short again. They really must think we are thick and will swallow whatever crap they serve up.

Your slipping again Ni. 😂😂😂.

18 Jan 2020 15:39:06
Apologies Ken. 😂.

I don't believe we will get this deal done. In fairness to the club though it seems that Sporting are being an absolute disaster and keep asking for more. You can guarantee he will be playing Tuesday.

I just dnt understand why people would be happy with us paying 80 mil for a 50 mil footballer? Look at the stick Maguire gets on here, imagine we pay 80 and bruno doesn't hit the ground running? All the usual nonsense about overpaying would be out in full force.

Also the ed says sporting are doing nothing wrong, why are we doing it wrong? We have a valuation, they have a valuation 🤷‍♂️.

18 Jan 2020 18:49:10
But Deano, it's not that we should pay more than we want, it's that we should have known from the get go that we were too far away in valuation.

In the summer we couldn't agree to a fee. He then signs a new contract and we go back in January with the same derisory bid. It's just not good business. And also insulting Sporting by having add ons like "player winning balon d'or", "United winning the champions league".

If the valuation is that far apart, move on and try and sign someone else. But no, we'll drag this out the whole window and then either pay exactly what sporting want (cementing our image as a club that will simply pay up) or we will let it fade out and the team will continue to struggle without reinforcements.

We are desperate for players, every club knows this, until we build a good squad and have depth and we’re in a position where we are not in desperate need for players, we will pay over the odds! When we have most players and not in great need of signing but an addition would help we will be in a better position to negotiate better prices. We get stung by everyone.

18 Jan 2020 19:35:04
Deano, why is he a 50 mil footballer? Who makes that determination. surely the selling club?

Couldn't care less what we pay for a player as long as he's good.

If it’s that boring then there is a way to just not look at it? It’s only boring because you’re following it from start to finish and reading twitter and this site, turn your phone off, enjoy your life and have a look on 31st January if we signed anyone. You can’t do something you don’t have to do then moan that it’s boring.

Its a saga because the media make it thay way - man utd are still the biggest show in town and sell the most papers.
