Someone just reminded me that in theory we should still have the lukaku money to spend. he was sold at the end of the summer window and the money wasn't reinvested. At the time all the noise was that it would definitely be put towards future transfers, yet here we are again trying our best to not get a deal done. By the summer, that lukaku fee will have conveniently been forgotten by the board and prob disappeared into a dividend payment.

People need to chill, the club are attempting to sign someone. These things take a certain amount of time.
I read somewhere that Sporting might be stringing out the negotiations so he can play for them on Friday against Benfica. Maybe that's true, although I would be surprised if it is to be honest. A dangerous game to play if the rumours are true that Sporting need the money. If he gets injured on Friday then that would potentially put the kibosh on the whole deal.
Either way, at some point I expect he'll be announced as a new signing.
Then everyone can get back to complaining that the club aren't going to sack Ole as they have just backed him in the January transfer window.

That money is not one lump sum. They maybe got a 30 mill payment and the rest will come throughout Lukakus contract. So while we agreed an 70odd mill deal, we don't have that to spend. The books need to be balanced and spending money before you have received money is not how it works I'm afraid.

You pretty much said the same thing in the summer as well. "This things take time and blah blah". When window came closer, you said " We have still time". When the transfer window closed down and we didn't sign any midfielders, you wrote an essay about how we don't need midfielders by listing whole starting XI and how this team is good enough. Then as we started losing you said Ole deserves time as these team needs midfielders and at least 4 signings. So in short you have changed your opinions several time to defend the club.
My point is you need to have a reality check and understand that we have been screwing windows after windows for a long time and there is no point defending the wrongs going in the club and Ole is one of the wrongs.
The structure of the club is wrong but so is the choice of manager. All posters here trust the judgement of Ed002 and never doubt it. But when Ed002 said Ole is a wrong appointment, you turn your head around. We need a lot of investments in the team and there is no point dragging on the window if we are to pay the same price. e.g Maguire : Chased all the window to pay the same price.

So do you think that as soon as the window shuts we stop looking, stop negotiations and start again. Negotiations are going too long because we are clueless and unprofessional. Does it take two windows to negotiate a deal for a player that wants to come? Yes it does if you are an amateur and don’t want to pay the fee correctly. We should have at least one signing wrapped up by now and organising others, but the ability isn’t there to close a deal, and is definitely not there to negotiate more than one deal at a time. Shambles from top to bottom with this set up. But we move on and support the team tonight!

How many windows did it take to negotiate Maguire? or AWB? or James?
Yes, the club tried to play hard ball with Sporting over Fernandes in the summer, and now they are back to try and sort it. Maybe they club didn't feel they needed Fernandes enough to pay the fee in the summer. Maybe they didn't think Pogba was going to spend 4 months injured.
I'm not saying the club is run well, just that there is little point throwing our toys out the pram just because a player hasn't signed by a date we feel is appropriate.

I'm not making excuses, just trying to add balance. When someone says the club can't compete a transfer while ignoring the three signings we made in the summer just reeks of petty one sided whinging.
The club are attempting to sign Bruno Fernandes, whether we succeed or not remains to be seen. But I'm not sure what complaining on the internet every half an hour because the club haven't announced his signing yet is a little pathetic.
We'll either sign him or not. By all means if the club balls it up a second time then kick off and stamp your feet for all the difference it will make. But at least you will be complaining about something that has actually happened or not as the case maybe.
It's like complaining that it's not Christmas yet and the government have made a mess of it on the 22nd of December.

Sounds a lot like excuses to me. They are incompetent when dealing with transfers. That's the top and bottom of it. Big changes need to be made.
