I was wondering how easy some of our supporters think it is to complete a transfer? I am no expert and presume that those on frees are simple, you just agree terms with the player and that's it. I can also presume that those that hand in a request are a bit easier, in that you approach the club for permission to talk to the player and if they want to sell they grant it and you agree terms with both the player and selling club. It has to be so hard with a club who don't want to sell, you can approach and make an offer, they can accept or decline your offer, you then have to speak to the player and his bloody agent and agree terms. Most players we are after I think have not handed in requests to leave, so it becomes a long bargaining session to see if you can meet the selling clubs valuation and also agree terms with a player? I think I am right Ed 002 will probably tell me I am mad

{Ed002's Note - it is not like that for those “Frees”

Thanks, how hard is it for those out of contract and on a "free"? I only ask as some people on here are demanding to know why and when we are signing players without knowing what it actually takes.

{Ed002's Note - Stuff like this needs to happen and plenty of payments need to be made.
(a) Paperwork including obtaining International Clearance and Work Permits if necessary.
(b) Any levy applied by the local FA – 5% for the Premier League. This eill be based on the assigned value of the transfer fee.
(c) Tax due on the assigned value of the transfer fee – typically this will be VAT (at varying rates across Europe) some or all of which should be reclaimable.
(d) Agent fees – this may be to one or more agents (as an example, Liverpool spent £44M plus VAT on agent fees (nearly double the next highest) last season alone).
(e) Tax due on the agent fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the agent bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(f) Intermediary fees – this may be to one or more sponging leeches (what do you mean you have a super agent?) .
(g) Tax due on the Intermediary fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the Intermediary bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(h) Signing on fee to the player (possibly including non-reclaimable VAT if the player is VAT registered).
(i) Legal fees.
(j) VAT on legal fees which is reclaimable.
(k) Moving/relocation costs for the player.
(l) VAT on moving/relocation costs which is reclaimable.
(m) Solidarity and Training Contributions (this can be significant payments paid based on the assigned transfer fee to clubs you may never of heard of).
(n) Paying up insurance costs to the selling club (usually waived).}

Are there any decent football documentaries showing behind the scenes of a transfer. Geeky I know but I would find it fascinating to watch.

{Ed002's Note - Quite frankly, of course not.}

17 Jul 2019 19:43:49
Thanks Ed002, now some of our supporters may see the reason why we have just not signed a player.

{Ed002's Note - To be fair they are far from the brightest.}

And some people think you are a journalist 😂.

{Ed002's Note - Many say I am a simple singer songwriter that came out of Laurel Canyon in the early 70s. Others say, I played for Arsenal, Everton and Millwall before a successful career in the Medical Law (specialising in left knees). Some even say it was my fadget design that was used in the patent for tentafere that led to air traffic control over Lake Havasu City being lost for 40 minutes on Christmas Eve 2014. Many finally figured out I am a tubby kid from Bolton.}

Ed002, if they read this they might shut up about asking about player x and y?

{Ed002's Note - I think Player Y will sign Friday.}

17 Jul 2019 21:51:32
You‘re asking for trouble there Ed 😂

Thanks a lot for the insight.

17 Jul 2019 21:56:24
oh, I had player Y as Bale, you sure it's not X?

I have now worked out the identity of Ed 002 and the truth is stranger than fiction. We are so so lucky. Thanks Ed.

I was wondering how easy some of our supporters think it is to complete a transfer?

not as easy as the fifa players and football manager people think but still slightly alarmed that Barcelona can get Griezmann, Real can get Hazard, militao, Mendy and jovic, West ham can get Haller and we can't get a kid from Newcastle despite the fact he would sell his own nan for a fiver lol

Greenwood and Chong are looking decent though so maybe we don't need lots of new signings.

When I read Ed02's juicier responses I immediately think of him as a middle aged female librarian on HRT and wondering where her life has gone. 💋💋💋.

{Ed002's Note - Obviously I don’t ride a Vincent HRT. I have a Vincent Black Lightning 1952.}

I thought that was a marital aid.

{Ed002's Note - Sure great for picking up ginger haired chicks.}

19 Jul 2019 11:38:40
Looked up Laurel Canyon Ed - sure was a crazy time late 60s/ early 70s! Did you get to hang with Crosby, Stills, Nash, Joplin etc?!

{Ed002's Note - I was there with my girlfriend for the lost summer of 1974 in the Hollywood Hills with the Source Family and then in Laurel Canyon.}

19 Jul 2019 13:48:36
Thanks Ed002: I've just read about the Source family, Father Yod, Yahowa 13 - and much more - and, as Seagull alludes to above, that's some life you've experienced so far. We really are lucky to have you on this site; I've no doubt that every minute of your time is precious. Would be intrigued to know how you've ended up being so omniscient about all football matters though - surely the capitalist market forces that fuel the rivers of money involved in the game - plus the instant gratification culture that drives both players and fans - contradict the Source family/ Laurel Canyon beliefs about life? (Please forgive me for this rhetorical question - just really fascinated by all the things I've read! )

{Ed002's Note - The Canyon was very laid back for the few months we were there but a lot of folks were pretty strung out. The Source Family were preparing to head for pastures new and the restaurant was attracting a lot of vagrants (we had nothing to do with the restaurant). There was a lot of music being recorded at the time by the Source Family and Father Yod’s daughter was born when we were there. There were a huge number of tapes recorded but I don’t know what happened to them.}

Thanks for sharing your fascinating life Ed002. Looks like the Source family headed off to a mixed reception in Hawaii! The restaurant looks like it was the place to be though. The music seems really eclectic and, maybe under another more established name such as Jefferson Airplane, would have gained more commercial success. Shame so much was lost. Thanks again for sharing Ed - much more interesting than surviving the jungle that is comprehensive school everyday here in the UK!

{Ed002's Note - Currently flying over the Med. I originally came to England to do a masters degree in London. I know some of the albums have been re-issued.}
