It looks like we are seeing to signing Maguire.

I just think he is a better version of Jones. I don't get what all the fuss is about. I hope I'm wrong.

His lack of pace and technique is worrying. A Rio type of CB like Dias would have been a far better option.

If he signs then I will get behind him and back him.

Seriously Jones?
Jones is always injured.

We will have to back him and hope for the best, wouldn't have been my first choice but I hope he does well fo us,
And if memory serves me right David Moyes was keeping tags on young Harry maguire of Sheffield united.

Given the choice, Koulibaly would have been perfect who has all the attributes if we wanted an experienced CB and someone like Dias for a younger alternative.

The problem is there is no guarantee if Koulibaly would be able to adapt to the PL and settle in quickly to make an impact or whether Dias can step up to the next level with United and help shore the defense in the short to long term.

Add to the fact that without champions league on offer, would the players want the move and even if so we would have to spend some crazy money. We probably would have to pay more than the Maguire deal to get Koulibaly and while Dias is a great option, where would that leave Tuanzebe who has been making good progression of late?

With Maguire, we are getting a proven PL player with good physical presence about him which we have lacked since Vidic. If he can fine tune his positional sense, that would help him make up for his lack of real pace.

TRD

Maguires style reminds me of Jones.

I've commented quite a few times about how I do not want us to sign Maguire regardless of the fee. That's down to my opinion that he simply isn't that good and we could sign 10-15 CB who look like better options. However, if we sign him I hope he proves me entirely wrong and performs very well.

Signings don't always work out how we hope, I was very excited when we signed Falcao, Schneiderlin, Depay, Sanchez and Di Maria and all were/ have been brutal for us. So judging by how underwhelmed I feel about us signing Maguire, he's going to be incredible haha.

Rjmanutd,

Well put. I agree.

Koulibaly does not want to leave Napoli, not least for Manchester United.

Guess you haven't seen much of Maguire then if you think he's like Jones 😂.

Jones was touted as a potential midfielder at one point due to his ball playing ability and his habit of stepping up into midfield with the ball. His defensive style is also built around physicality, and last minute tackles.
He also often plays on the left hand side even though he is right footed.

What is Maguire's style? Ball playing CB, right footed but plays on the left, likes stepping up into midfield, physical defender who often puts in last minute tackles.

I can see the similarities.

Wazza that's a funny statement from a man united supporter.
Not least for man united.

Leahy, it’s better to look at things realistically rather than with red tinted spectacles.

I don't know whether he wants a move or not, napoli are a good side, but if he did want a move abroad and wanted to prove himself, Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in Europe, now we all know we have gone backwards, but it's down to clowns running the club,
Manchester United are huge big Big club. Now that's the kind of player we need, but does he want the move, have we got the right men in the job to attract these players.
For me we need a dof who can get the right people in the right positions,
But will the club be left do these things, them glazers are money men not football men.
