The athletic running a story saying that onanas reps had a meeting with the club last week and he's expected to stay. I know no9 is high on everyone's agenda but I honestly feel gk should be a priority. Onana is a great guy, fantastic attitude but he couldn't catch a cold. On the rare occasions we played well last year we dropped points due to his howlers. I'd rather we were solid and dependable and only had to score 1 to win than having to score 3/ 4 to make up for his errors. Others might be happy enough to keep him but I think this will prove to be a big mistake, add that to the fact our backup is just as bad and it leaves us in a poor position moving forward.

What is it about his attitude that you like? I think he’s arrogant and thinks he’s a lot better than he is, giving it the big one one minute then making a horrendous error and losing us a game the next. If we start next season with Onana as number 1 we won’t finish in the top 8 in my opinion, he’s that bad.

Agree totally GDS2, lots of noise today about him staying. Hopefully as backup to a proper goalkeeper, much like we did with Sergio Romero who IMHO didn't get the chances he deserved. At least he had a safe pair of hands, unlike our current keeper who appears to have a very large, gaping, football sized hole between his.

Onana needs to be shifted out but likely is on such a good contract he will not want to go. To deal with it buy a good quality keeper and play him over Onana, make Onana defacto No2. Our priority is goal scoring but Onana is a liability. I would have been happy with Martinez from Villa. You can’t win much with Onana in goal. Defenders will not have confidence behind them and that is vital for success.

Agree GDS2
Sometimes you look at a player and feel some kind of empathy towards the when things aren't going to plan. Hojlund for example.
Onana on the other hand, keeps making the same mistakes he always makes and always has made for previous teams too.

Gds by attitude I mean that he isn’t a bad influence in the dressing room unlike players like sancho etc. that’s all I meant.

Red Man, anyone but that guy, I can't stand Martinez after the world cup.

I think Onana talks a lot but doesn't back it up at all. As long as we get a new #1, don't care whether he stays or goes.
The funny thing is it seems there are many GKs who would be an instant - and not very expensive - upgrade on what we have, unlike strikers. So hopefully the club will move fast on that at least.

Onana as no 2 for another season if no reasonable bid comes in is ok with me. But if a bid comes in, he has to go.

Having two top GKs duking it out never works out in the long run so pretty sure if we got someone in he'd move on quickly enough.
It is a shame, at the point he played for Inter v City in the CL finale he was outstanding and Pep said himself that it was like playing against 12, not just in his performance but the fact he could push up and at times was even ahead of the Inter CBs. Maybe Erik will fancy him again.

Jimbo.
I'm going through my daughter's piggy bank right now. See if I can do us all a favour.

Spenno, he is not a top GK.
If we bought one GK, assuming they were a top one, we would only have have one. Currently we have none.
