I watched 3 players we have been linked with play their full games this weekend with great interest.
Cunha. He was hugely effective imo a goal and made a couple. Works hard and very strong. Very good technically and has an element of unpredictability in his game. I'd be very hopeful he would do well if we sign him.
Wharton. I really like this guy watched him a few times now and I live the intensity he plays with. Still a little raw and his decision making is not there yet imo but great engine and appetite for hard work. Looks like a real players player. Not sure we are in the hunt for him but I suspect he will get a good move this summer or next.
Mateta. Not sure where his strengths are. He can look at bit cumbersome imo but has an eye for goal. He missed a pen at the weekend but held the ball up well and is a willing runner. I'm wondering if he has enough in his overall game. But a definite upgrade o what we have. In pretty much every respect.
I think all or any of those 3 would improve us as a team but I think mateta would have the most difficulty in reproducing his palace for. For united.

I like all 3. Particularly Cunha who would be transformative for us I think.
There was a stat last week on SS showing claiming that he is terms of time 'walking around' he is second in the whole league (forget who was first - van Dijk maybe) . Not sure what to make of this stat and I think it would be wrong to suggest he is lazy, far from it, but it's well-known that in the Amorim system there's certainly no 'walking around' time. Hopefully just another pointless stat that needs to be taken in context.
Wharton would be an asset to any team. I'm not sure I see a space for him at any of the very top Prem teams so maybe he's an option. No thrills kind of player but a manager's dream. Probably like I expected Ugarte to be.
Mateta, really like this player but not sure he's high on the list. I thought he was a flash in the pan type of player after his exploits last season but he's still doing ok.
I'm not sure Palace will want to lose all considering Eze is likely to be in high demand.

How old is Mateta? Looked lanky and a bit leggy for me. Have a feeling he is 28 and whilst experienced not sure he suits us. I also wonder if this is his peak and buy him now we would be buying him to see maybe a year and then the decline. 25 or 26 maximum for the main striker, maybe 27.

He is 27 redman. He has had a very good 18 months to be fair and he works hard running the channels and holds the ball up well. Not the most pleasing player on the eye but has been effective. I'd rather him to delap as an option.
We can't blow the budget on oshimen with questions on his motives and character by all accounts.
So yeah it's the dilemma they face in choosing who to go for.
In delaps favour wilcox does know him well so should be confident in him. We all know so little of the intimate details that it's hard to make any real judgement other than what we see.
So much depends on The Europa league. I just don't know where the goals will come from.

Spenno palace will not be pushed around we saw that last summer with their cb they turned down several big offers.
If they win the cup and go into Europe they might not need to sell anybody.

Cunha and Costa (Goalie. ) Rest depends on the budget but those two are a must.

Cunha Mateta, Delap and anyone to stand in between the post, will make us much much better. but that is wishful thinking….

I'd take that lad that plays in goal for those YouTuber games over Onana. Possibly our worst signing?
29 Apr 2025 12:17:36
Short memory Peter? Do you not remember Taibi?
29 Apr 2025 13:36:16
That was 26 years ago mate. Not really a case of a short memory. Onana, for me, is the worst signing we have made since Ferguson left. He doesn't add anything.

Right up there Peter. There is a few good candidates for that title.
But given fee paid the wages and the 2 years of nonsense keeping he would be right up there.
I'm hoping for a Saudi solution we need 27.8m to have no loss on the books. Seems unlikely.
He is just not up to the job at OT.

I think Sanchez tops that list. We blew City out the water and he literally sat on the bench grabbing his 500k a week.

It's a good shout Spenno. You look at Sanchez though and can see why we bought him.
Onana, on the other hand. He was making these same performances at Inter and Ajax.
