Got to say that I don't understand Amorim's words at press conferences.

Everyone says he's so good at them but he constantly contradicts himself.

When he came in to the club he said something along the lines of 'i will always defend my players' now he's saying 'this is the worst united team in history'.

It might be true but he can't say that as a manager.

A few other things like he said the players need to watch the way they dress and then next interview takes it back.

I hope he knows what he's doing because right now, he doesn't seem to listen to think about what he's saying.

Agree4 Disagree0

A few of the comments were certainly pretty bold. Almost Mourinho-esque, comments you'd generally hear at the end of a manager's reign when they know they're on the way out. But I don't think he's going anywhere, obviously he wants to fire his players up but IMO it's got as much chance of having the adverse effect.

21 Jan 2025 09:25:21
Did you actually listen to the interview? He didn’t say we are the worst man united team in history

He said we are playing like the worst. we have won 2 games in 10 that is absolutely shocking

Is he wrong? No he isn’t this team is a joke and if we want to be real we are actually the worst man united side in prem history, we are 13th

The team is not likeable, the players don’t play like they even care

I don’t actually get some of the so called pundits who by the way have never been managers feel like what he said was a bad thing

This is where you will see what players have the balls to react or do we see the same old where the manager gets thrown under the bus? Because what? He said he hat everyone else can see, how poor of a team we actually are.

Don’t know what interviews your watching mate but I think he’s been very clear in all he’s given, he’s s
Right to the point, no BS,

Imagine he came out and said “my players tried to play, they were unlucky to lose 3-1 when we can all see what kind of performance they have just put in for 90 minuites

This squad deserves absolutely nothing from anyone m, they get paid a fortune and pick and choose when they want to work hard. if anyone feels sorry for them or feels the manager saying the obvious was out of order then you need to give your head a wobble

This team is the worst side since the 70s even the side that got relegated had more about them then this lot what a kick in the face for the likes of the busby babes.

21 Jan 2025 09:47:42
Err, no he said it was the worst lol.

21 Jan 2025 10:00:10
Spot on Bolger, so many people, including the media have completely blew the context of his comments out of control.

21 Jan 2025 10:33:46
If we are bring specific he said “we are being the worst team in Manchester United maybe”

But he’s not wrong we are. results don’t lie. I don’t get why we are so bothered by the comment and if the players don’t take that comment and use it to fuel something then they are lost

I coach an u12s football team and they understand at their age number 1 thing we do is we go out and work like dogs

This team don’t work. if they all had amass work rate we wouldn’t be in the position we are now, it goes back to what ole said when he took over when he said we shouldn’t be one of the worst teams for distance covered

We will see the reaction Thursday and then weekend.

21 Jan 2025 11:51:56
Amads*.

21 Jan 2025 12:24:13
Bolger

I disagree on the work rate statement and can't fault the current set up for lack of effort. Its simple issue of the current players don't suit the system he wants to play. BTW who has honestly watched enough sporting games and not just highlights.

I support the idea of getting rid of players and getting in new players to suit his system but not convinced it will actually work tbh and we may be here again in 2 years time.

In general terms, I can't think of many teams that don't control the middle of the pitch being very successful but happy to be proven wrong. Being at a numerical disadvantage in the middle is a hard way to play football.

21 Jan 2025 12:56:24
Bolger,

Been waiting for somebody to actually stop taking his comments out of context, as soon as he said it the media were all over it but the actual interview wasn’t like that at all. Pundits were complaining that Ten Hag was wrong to say the players were doing fine when they weren’t now Amorim is wrong to call them out. Our fans need to stick together and support the manager but instead they all fall for the media narrative and another manager will be gone. Nothing Amorim said was wrong, they are playing like the worst team I’ve seen in my lifetime as a supporter.

21 Jan 2025 13:42:49
Right on the money Bolger.

21 Jan 2025 14:53:30
I posted on the other page it was the first time I thought he lost some of his composure and usual coolness when it comes to the press when he said what he said about the team. Now I read he smashed a TV in the locker room and went off on the players.

He did look a bit unsettled and flustered but don't blame him, everyone feels that way.

We need a win against rangers that pretty much locks top 8 in europa for us.

we suck in the league and really does not matter anymore and yes we will break every record this year for worst this and worst that.

A couple of cup runs would keep the fan base engaged and something to look forward to.

21 Jan 2025 15:01:07
A team is not any particular individual. It singles no one out. Is this maybe the worst United team ever? Well, perhaps not as bad as the one that actually got relegated in 74. But since then, it's not even an arguable point. It is. Is it the system or the quality of the players? In my mind we lack physicality, speed, and character. We have no real leaders. We have bought badly largely because our management group has not had the analytical tools nor the breadth of market knowledge to do it well. and I think that may include right up to this last summer. The jury is still out on Yoro, who looks a bit slow. De Ligt is okay but he's hardly the equivalent of VVD. Mazraoui started well but has struggled of late (which maybe because of the system), and Ugarte who does look decent. The manager said nothing but the truth. As Bolger said, it's plain to everyone.

21 Jan 2025 15:08:27
From a purely motivational standpoint I think it has been proven in many walks of life that being critical of a person in a negative rather than positive manner does not have a positive effectin the long term.

I worry that RAs statements become self fulfilling prophecies.

21 Jan 2025 14:23:33
Amad, when we play Thursday just watch how certain players react to when we lose the ball, and when the opponent is in areas where we should be squeezing.

I agree some players are don’t fit the system mainly we don’t have out and our wing backs, but it doesn’t help we don’t have a good enough forward line, both strikers and cam positions other than amad none are good enough, inc Bruno and I like Bruno but he doesn’t stick to his position and more time than not there is so much space on one side because of it

I think the keeper position needs addressing both wing back positions and the left side cam and striker position

I personally only think the 3 cbs 2cms and right cam are the right fit although you could argue and say we need upgrades in the 1/ 2 cb positions ie Maguire and Martinez

Amorim has been brought in mid season to a team that can’t understand anything but Basic things, as soon as they are taking out there comfort zone they hide

How good were the performances playing 4-3-3 4-2-3-1 the system is not the issue the personnel is

You
Could argue 5 out the 11 can play this system but I’m not having the players worked to a standard weekend, Liverpool and Arsenal games we worked hard and got results deserving

GDS2 we are easy for headlines and for pundits who have never managed or failed managers to keep relevant if they keep talking about us.

The manager needs time, needs proper time on the training pitch, he’s not had any pre season been brought into a side that as you say it is the worst Manchester United in prem history. we need to stop living off fergie time it’s been over 10 years we are a mid table club. People’s expectations needs to be lowered drastically.

We don’t control games period because 70 percent of this team do not have the capabilities or football brains to make the correct decisions on the pitch we are constantly giving turnovers over and over again.

I think Amorim is spot on in all the interviews he’s had he’s inherited a squad constructed of random players bought for god knows what idea

It’s quite funny really majority of this site over the last 18 months if not longer banged on about ten hag having 0 style of play, no plan, all we relied on was moments and counters, some said all his did was waffle in his interviews

Now a manager has come in who looks to have a plan and style and has said countless times he’s not changing for the sake of it, is honest with the fans in his interviews is already getting criticised with 0 pre season and a hand full of training sessions, with a window that’s looking a shambles (although January is hard to sell and buy)

I’ve said it before but look at pep when he came to city it took him a full 12 months and 2 pre seasons to see his way work and did he change, the only thing that changed were the players.

This is what happens when you don’t be assertive and listen to the “fans” and pundits who big upped ten hag after that fa cup win when they should have stuck to what they wanted and got rid of him in the summer

We can’t say we would have been better off now or not but at least you could say they were sure in what they wanted

Just give the manager time, and hope the people above get the recruitment right both in and out just enjoy the rollercoaster season

I personally still think we can win the europa leauge who knows but prem wise I couldn’t care where they finish as long as what’s needed is brought in and those who can’t adapt leave from now till the summer.

21 Jan 2025 15:17:36
There’s limits to when the positive motivational standpoints are actually a waste of time

Sometimes in life you have to wake up and take it, constantly wrapping players in bubble wrap giving them hugs and the old “chin up mate” doesn’t sit well with me

Your paid to do a job and your failing shape up.

21 Jan 2025 15:49:02
Good posts again Bolger.

21 Jan 2025 17:39:32
Bolger has it nailed on, and now we know he trashed the dressing room in a furious rage makes his comments more meaningful. he was raging at the gutless pathetic poor excuses of players. should let the supporters into dressing room, some heads would still be in ceiling. They have utterly no shame, and after the wonderful tribute to Dennis. that display happened. Wow, these players sunk to a new low. and that's something with this lot.

21 Jan 2025 17:45:05
win the europa league. alright then. bigger chance of getting relegated than winning anything this season.

21 Jan 2025 20:36:53
He only said what we all think. This is the worst man united side I have have watched.

I work mon-fri and have a young family and work my weekends around our fixtures so I can watch the game. It's got to the point where I'm thinking do I plan family things when we are playing so my family don't have to endure me being a miserable sod ?. My youngest who's 3 tells me not to watch football as it makes daddy sad.

22 Jan 2025 00:07:19
Some great posts in this thread. Bolger I agree with everything you're saying.
Who didn't agree with half when he said open heart surgery was required?
Eth didn't do it. He brought in lots of players some who are simply just thrash and he got a bit unlucky with injuries. Got some stuff right but was just not a strong enough leader.
Those players deserve every bit of the redmist the endured in the dressing room.
The ones that don't respond positively are not worth having.
I'm very happy to sport amorim and follow his leadership.
He will rip the dirt and poison out of that dressing room. I fully believe that in 18 months time if he has a high success rate with recruitment we will be in a very much better place in 18 months time and we will have players we are proud of and who represent us on a way we all want.

Bolger

We had 10 up to 14 players injured at the peak of it last year and could hardly field a first 11 and looked poor many games. That is not the case atm and we are playing worse with 5 new signings and a pretty healthy squad. There is zero denying that.

Even earlier in the year when the results were not going our way we led the league in xg not converted and were creating a lot of opportunities but not scoring. The losses against Westham, Brighton draw vs palace we were by far the better team in those games, which is not even the case atm when we lose games.

Its a system failure given the players available which is a healthy squad with Mount and Shaw missing but then again they hardly played last year either so nothing new there. Our two shining stars from the academy gone backwards and one looks most likely going.

Our two moments of hope vs Liverpool and arsenal was nothing new tactically, we sat deep and countered and were second best statistically in every category. We look terrible when we actually have to come out and play which is the case when we play at home.

There are many managers who are stubborn and stick to one system and all get sacked when the system fails on a consistent basis. Ange at spurs who have added 20 something players in the last 2 and half years is sticking to his way and he will get sacked very shortly on the current trajectory. everyone raved about him 12 months ago.

Blame has to be placed somewhere and atm its easy to say they are all sh. t get rid and buy a whole new team for a system that is questionable. There are no patterns at all to our play and offensively this is the worst we have been in many years imo.

We can't build up anything through midfield as whoever plays there is numerically outnumbered and has no space or time on the ball.

I get it this system is predominantly relying on wingbacks creating stuff and our don't suit what he wants. let's wait and see what two new wingbacks do for us and we can continue this discussion.

22 Jan 2025 07:26:29
Fergie’s genius was he knew how to motive individual players, some needed positivity and an arm around their shoulders, others needed shouting at.

Let’s hope there is a reaction on Thursday night.

22 Jan 2025 07:39:29
Ken, ten hag gave us a hernia operation when we needed a triple bypass.

22 Jan 2025 08:11:45
Amad this is being picky but in no way did we sit in and counter against liverpool which showed the system can work, however on that particular day i didn't think liverpool pressed us very well which gave us opportunity to get on the front foot (i think ed001 mentioned this in his match report)

22 Jan 2025 08:41:11
I can’t fault Amorim’s words or demeanour. I can fault the tactical set up etc, but it’s time for that surgery like we’ve all discussed. Looks like he is the surgeon without anaesthetic.
