In honour of King Denis, a poem in the style of EJ Thribb, 17 1/ 2, poet laureate of Neasden United and frequent Private Eye contributor.
So farewell then
Denis the Menace
aka the Lawman
aka the King
last survivor of the holy trinity
115,000 quid was a record transfer then
lunch money today
I watched you once
rain drenched sleeves stretched down your hands
walk towards the Stretford End Paddock
where I stood close up
you gave the two finger salute
it wasn't meant for me I think
but for the linesman
who had just called you offside
which, by the way, you were
so no need to ruminate on that
in whatever Theatre of Dreams
you now perform your
overhead kicks
and don't waste a moment of eternity
thinking about the back-heeled goal
you scored for City
helping to seal our relegation
in 1974
don't give it another thought
it's all forgotten
really
just haste ye back
we need the likes of you
in red again
and forever
farewell.

The back heel did not seal our fate. Results elsewhere did that. Otherwise, a nice piece.

Patrick: Yes, our fate was written, before the King put his seal upon it.

So the back heel didn’t “help. ”.

You are being irksomely literal. it's a poem.
