I see all the YouTube football experts that think football only started in 1991. The goat get chucked around about player playing in this time are a joke. As a Liverpool I see these younger Utd put Rooney Ronaldo up there as the greatest Utd players but Best Charlton and Law are levels above true footballing greats so sad to see the last of the Holy Trinity leave the footballing family.
RIP Denis YNWA.

You will always have a recency bias, that's just human nature. Personally I think it's pretty much impossible to compare players across different eras as the game has changed so much. The money invested in the sport now, the sports science, the media attention, the technology etc. Players should really only be compared to players from the same era due to all these variables that make cross era comparison pretty much a pointless exercise.
Even re-watching 90's EPL football you realise that most of those players would be sent off every game if they played like that in the modern game. While the level of fitness and athleticism across the whole league was so many levels below what it is now.
There is also less space for mavericks in the modern game, they rarely get to play for the elite sides anymore due to them not following the team plan/ tactics. There just isn't space in the modern game at the highest level for a team to carry a player because he'll do one or two moments of magic/ artistry in a game that will get you a goal.
A player like Ronaldinho for example probably wouldn't get a move to an elite club now as he doesn't track back, press the opposition, and he plays off the cuff rather than sticking to the teams patterns of play.
Players just need to be appreciated for what they achieved in their career, and there are few players who have match Denis Law's achievements. A true legend of the game not just our club, and an absolute gentleman. He'll be sadly missed by all those who knew him and those who admired him.
Rest in peace Denis.

What I would say is back then it was man’s game now I don’t know what to call it. Everybody goes on about how fast the game is nowadays and how fit they are would love to see players nowadays playing on the pitches they had to then seen videos of best skipping past people while there pulling him kicking him on a pitch that looked hard enough just to run with the ball and good chance he was half pissed as well. lol.
