Just read the stuff going around about Mainoo. It is the window and lot's of crazy things get written. Can't believe for a second the club would do something like this.

Agree4 Disagree0

Agree Ahmad
Looks more like someone is leaking this in trying to improve the contract offer.

08 Jan 2025 06:59:52
Unbelievable. I suggested the chaos was continuing and that our values were being trashed, and this would confirm it. Given it is in every paper, it feels like there is some truth in it, although I can only hope it is more transfer window nonsense.

If it is true, then I have no words.

08 Jan 2025 08:26:05
I would accept it if Garnacho is the one who is sold but like you guys, speechless if mainoo is allowed to leave, surely there are other options before a decision like that happens.

08 Jan 2025 09:31:48
The club are just doing what we keep asking them to do in contract situations, don't just bend over and give players far more than they should do. It is the usual gamesmanship, getting back control from the players. Casimero, Rashford, Sancho, Antony, Erikson, Lindelof will leave January/ Summer with the likes of Shaw/ Mount surely under review due to injuries.

We are looking to clear out the top earners (north of £200/ 250k) and in keeping with the other cost cutting this makes sense. With that in mind there is no way that Mainoo currently is worth £200k a week. Realistically he should be around the £120k bracket with good incentives to increase this up with a view to a regular review if he develops which would have him in line with the likes of Yoro/ Ugarte.

Garnacho, I can see this being more realistic if a good price comes in. Similar to Rashford there are big questions over his fit. However, given time and training with Amorim he could develop as players did at Sporting.

Agree with Brad but this wage restraint is hard to do whilst so many under performing high earners remain at the club such as Casemiro, Mount, Rashford and Shaw.

We had the same problem with Sanchez around the time we negotiated with DDG, Martial, Shaw etc.

I hope the club doesn't get to enamoured with this idea of receiving a “pure profit”, because we have a history of academy players making it all the way and we most likely will make a foolish decision and let someone leave of the quality of say i don't know a Cole Palmer lol.

08 Jan 2025 10:21:46
Well it would be a huge amount of pure profit. but I can't see why on earth United would do this even at £70-80m. It's obvious he and Ugarte are our only midfielders with running power and if anything we're crying out for another just like him. So they'd sell him then be looking for an immediate replacement for half the price? Come on.
Garnacho however, I could see offers being entertained, but even then we'd be short of creativity, more so if Rash goes too.

The business will do what's best for the business. I never remember losing money being part of our heritage.
What a load of claptrap spoken by people who have never put millions of their own money into a failing business and have no idea what the business is dealing with financially.
I don't for 1 second think we will sell mainoo to Chelsea but if we do there will be good reason for it.
We all wanted the open heart surgery that ralph spoke about. With that comes difficult decisions we won't agree with lots of them but that's life. When it's your millions being spent you get a say.

08 Jan 2025 12:07:25
The business

I was born a few miles from the ground, I grew up in Manchester, for me it is not business. But maybe that's just me.

08 Jan 2025 12:50:04
Blimey if someone offered 70 -80 million for Mainoo I would bite there hand off, I again not sure what the love in with him is about he is OK maybe even good at times but lacks pace and legs! And is not a great midfielder that can control a game by any stretch!

08 Jan 2025 13:06:56
The Mainoo stuff sounds like
Agent. I want £200k per week, club say no. Rumours leaked about Chelsea interest etc. So the club say we will sell, no one is unsellable. Warning shots each way. For those that remember I recall Busby did it with Denis Law.

Again it’s a Glazer driven financial mess from years of the club being a cash cow for them. If SJR wants to be taken seriously, to sort this out, then buy the Glazers out, pay off all debts including the £500m or whatever it is now the Glazers foisted on the club. I haven’t seen the financials but do wonder if his wealth is in the large part his shares in Ineos, rather than shall we say liquid assets, hence Ineos involvement. Yet this lingering financial mess is not good for any party.

If the answer is selling our Crown Jewels then we are in real trouble, Mainoo is one, yet until the last couple of games hasn’t hit the heights of last season. Show it on the pitch earn the pay rise, want to play for the club, the shirt or become a mercenary. Looks like negotiations to me and modern agents can be a real issue.

I would personally take Rashford to the airport when they do a deal preferably with a sale not loan.

I believe every player has a value to the club, their worth in footballing ability in terms of both transfer value and wages.

There is a point with any player where the guys building a team can improve a team more be selling a player and reinvesting the money than keeping that player and for me, wanting to see us succeed that becomes the point at which we should sell a player.

In Rashfords case I believe the fee because of the wages would be quite low, the point at which United could improve the team by selling will be much lower.

I want Mainoo to stay and develop and be a star here but if he was sold and Amorim and Wilcox could use that money to bring in players, that improve us then I accept it is the right call for them. And if we keep making the right call on decisions like this we will get back to where we want to be.

08 Jan 2025 14:21:15
I agree with a lot of that redman

Ajh there is a major difference between what you think and feel and what the reality is. If you can align a bit more with the reality then it helps.
We all want what's best for the club but no point in wanting things that can't happen.
It's a business 1st like all other clubs stemming the losses and aligning with competition rules is 1st and foremost. From cleaning ladies to programme sellers to player wages all must be addressed.
Bonuses will return for lowest paid staff when the financials are in a better place no doubt.
When you put a lot of your own money into a failing business you have the right to fix it as you see best.
The alternatives are points deductions transfer bans but the programme sellers will still have their m&s voucher ?.

He still has two years to run on his current contract with an option of a further year. I’m sure this is just the usual agent tactics to get the best deal for his client, but Mainoo would cost another club upwards of £80m at the moment and £50m in wages that he seems to want.

United should just sit back for 12 months and see how he progresses, no decisions need to be rushed at the moment.

Remember the second highest paid teenager in the world right now is Yoro on €115k a week, that is what Mainoo is probably being offered and it will end up around €150k when or if they end up agreeing.

08 Jan 2025 14:30:02
Redman

Also read the 200k demand. it can't be and he would never get it. Guys like Musaila and wirtz are on euros 90k and older and coming up to their first major contract extnsion/ renewals.

Even chelsea does not pay those wages and palmer is on 120k. I think its a hit piece to poison the relationship of the fans and the player.

They always do this and for example antony keeps getting reported at 200k but i know for a fact he is on 70 to 75k. He was on 18k/ 20k at ajax so it was still massive jump in wages for him.

08 Jan 2025 16:31:31
I am very sceptical when wage information discussed between 2-3 people at the very top up on gossip sites a few days later lol.

08 Jan 2025 21:55:46
Ahmad if you know for a fact what he’s on why the range? Most sites list he’s on 150-200k. If you have a look at them the majority of them all are pretty accurate. (Not talking about tabloids)

Weekdays good bonus structure and what agreement are their on his image rights.
You might laugh but lindelof has been one of the clubs top earners on image rights over the past few seasons I've read.
I doubt he even knows what he's earning or at least how it's made up.
Most of the weekly wages quoted are exagerated or the top end of potential earnings with all potential extras on top. I'd be surprised if Anthony was getting a basic of more than 100k a week.
