Just to change the subject again a little bit and in relation to corners this season (of which I think many are illegal) .
Is obstruction still a foul in football?
**Obstruction is when a player moves into an opponent's path to block, slow down or force a change of direction when neither player can play the ball. It is not a foul if the players are already in each other's space and an accidental collision or contact occurs.
So most corners on moving to the goalkeeper and impeding the keeper by an opposition player is an offence, or moving to block an outfield player? Yes.
Will this affect English teams in Europe if referee's are viewing it slightly differently/ correctly. Yes.

Agree2 Disagree0

My opinion is that some current keepers aren’t aggressive enough coming from corners. I don’t want the game to lose its physicality. If a player is blocking the keeper’s path to the ball, they need to go through them. That’s part of the position.

Might that not be a penalty Danny given the way players go down at the slightest contact?

On one of those Newcastle goals, Onana was penned in on either side by players there purely to prevent him getting where he wanted to.
I agree, stronger keeping from corners is needed, now more than ever, but corners in themselves have suddenly become a minefield in themselves. Too much IMO.

Same against wolves Spenno. The players arrived there as the kick was taken obviously not playing the ball and Onana unable to get to the ball.

I think you are spot on. It's definitely obstruction and there is absolutely no intention by such players to play the ball. I think it is blatant cheating and can and should be penalised. Totally against the spirit of the game too.

Its a form of cheating, one of many in the modern game. Players are being trained how to manipulate the rules. Long gone are the days of the beautiful game. I watch games from the 80's and 90's and the football is far more entertaining, more end to end, and far less of the modern nonsense.

We’re conceding so many corner goals brciase we don’t man mark and simply try and mark a space
It’s pretty pathetic when you look at how we defend not just corners but any set piece.

When the players all gather beyond the back post, how long until the defenders line up un a linked line and block them from making runs to the middle?

Obstruction is an oddly interpreted rule in football. I'd interpret shepherding the ball out of play as obstruction if the intent is to stop another player getting it using your definition of obstruction Salford.
