I said a few months ago that Mainoo was over rated and would be nowhere near the England squad if he didn't play for a top team and was shot down by everyone Eds included. Has anyone changed their mind yet because I still don't see it?

He is a young guy who is talented and needs a good coach. Even Mbappe would struggle to shine in this Utd.

Not change from me he's been injured and a change of system and role. He came on against Newcastle in the 33rd minute and was uniteds best midfielder. The boys talented. You sound desperate for him to fail becuase he is a united player.

It is his second season playing football. He is young and will his ups and downs.

However, utd shouldn't be pinning their hopes on a 19 year old to turn their season around.

Personally he played a lot of games last season and didn't really have a lot of time off to recover, hence he got injured.

Nah, you've fallen out of your trolley on that one.

He's not perfect yet, but he's far better that most of England's options.

Ahead of him for England as CMs are, imo, Rice and Gallagher - that's it.

Just to point out something the basics all miss, Bellingham can have a drastically negative effect on the midfield for England because, instead of tracking back, he frequently gets frustrated too easily and starts the flailing arms windmill show that makes him look like a moron.

If Bellingham plays as one of the midfield 3, then England plays with a weak midfield - how about that for a counterpoint?

Played pretty much every game when fit last season, missed only 2 or 3 games at beginning of the euros. His gametime for me has been mismanaged. Too much too soon. He'll be a quality player. Already is. He's still very young remember.

Wow, what a wonderful human being you are.

He's a young lad who has played half a season of professional football.

So far this season he has been injured twice, missing the start of the season, then a big chunk over the last 6 weeks or so.

He's hardly played and when he has it has been in a team that has been very poor, and while he isn't quite up to speed.

And let's not forget he's just 19 years old.

His limited performances have been as good or better this season than anything we've seen from Casemiro or Eriksen this season.

On Monday Newcastle were tearing us apart right through the middle of the pitch right up until Mainoo's introduction. It was only after Mainoo came on that we started to get a foothold in the game.

I'm still very confident that Mainoo will go on to be a top player, not based on talent (which he has plenty of), but due to his mentality and demeanor. He takes everything in his stride, never looks overwhelmed, always gives his best and wants to learn and improve.

He has impressed every single coach/ manager he has worked with at every single level.

Baring injury I think he'll go on to have a very good career.

Another post with someone saying ‘I told you so’ about something that hasn’t happened, people are desperate to be proved right about things they are taking credit for nonsense opinions just in case they come true. Mainoo is an absolutely quality footballer and at 19 has the world at his feet, he’s had a couple of poor games this season after his injury but on Monday he came on and controlled the midfield in a game where we were being totally overran by 2 fantastic players in the first 30 minutes. He had 60 touches with a 95% pass success, so no, I don’t think anyone has ‘changed their mind’ because he had a few bad games.

He has to be managed probably, overplaying him now because we are rubbish solves nothing.

Someone also said we shouldn’t play academy players now because the state we are in could destroy them. I don’t subscribe to that, if they are good enough get them in the team, Kukonki, Amass and Collyer have been in the match day squad a few times now, let’s give them a runout.

here we go now people are going to start on Mainoo. Its a cultural issue where we build them up and then knock them down. He plays in an unorganized mess and top top player imo. He is the least of our problems and suspect will be here for yonkers as a corner stone of whatever new rebuild we do.
