Marcus, Marcus, Marcus, what are you doing?

I remember you as a fresh faced youngster being thrown in due to injuries and scoring twice in your first 2 matches, your European and EPL debuts.

I remember you scoring in your first derby, your first EFL Cup game, your first Champions League appearance, and your England debut. What a record.

I remember the penalty against PSG, which took balls of steel to convert. I remember the golden year of 2023 when you tore the EPL apart.

60 caps by your mid 20's, you had the world at your feet.

People said you weren't the real deal. But I was there, defending you, I believed in you Marcus, I honestly thought you would go on to be a United and England great.

I remember the hunger, the desire, the tricks, the dribbles, the huge impact you sometimes had. But there's the thing, I am remembering, and I am remembering that it was just sometimes.

Because Marcus, somewhere things slipped off track.

I don't know if was too much money too soon, the cars, the tattoos, the girls, or maybe something personal, but to want to leave your boyhood club for a fresh start is a sad indictment of what you have become.

A word of advice. If you do get that fresh start, I would suggest not partying overseas after a defeat, turning up for training on time, and putting some effort in whilst on the pitch. Form can come and go but effort is a minimum requirement and for too long you have been lacking in that area.

So farewell Marcus, in time you will look back at what you had and what you could have become. Thank you for the good times but ultimately, they were too rare.

Brilliant post AJH and totally agree with the sentiment.

The highs with Marcus were as good as we have had over the past decate, big moments and important times. The lows were really low and not what you would expect of a professiobal player but symptomatic of how the club and player power/ attitude has been. However, the mid has just not been good enough with him drifting in and out of games, seemingly poor desire and the odd goal in games covering up an underwhelming level of performance.
I am sure a team, maybe abroad, will see him as an asset and he will do well (look at McTominay and the lease of life he is having) . Maximise what we can get and bring in a player that fits what we need in the new positions.

Whenever he goes, let's say thank you and good luck.

If he somehow gets his head down, bangs a few goals in, all will be forgotten.

But if not, he will get a fresh break. I feel like the man needs it.

Such a good post. But I can’t agree with comparing McT and Rashford. McTominay always put in a shift and maximum effort showing nothing but absolute commitment to the cause.
