Am I going mad or is Ten Haag just trying to gaslight me? I watched his presser earlier and he now seems to be denying that he said that we weren't in a position to win the league four months ago, which I'm fairly confident he did.
It's also slightly worrying that when asked if he thought we were moving in the right direction he avoided saying yes, instead opting for some vague answer about us finding out at the end of the season. I guess by then we'll probably have replaced him with somebody competent, so maybe that's what he meant. Either that, or he doesn't want to commit to an answer so that he can come up with another excuse after he gets canned.

The issue is he comes across to many as a bumbling idiot. Our performances reflect that and did all last season and this season to-date.
The manager bloke likes to keep expectation levels low just like his supporters.
Looking for every excuse under the soon to justify the rubbish his team serves up on a weekly basis.
Our aim should be to win the league. But if you state that it can't be done from the outset then your liking for trouble.
He is negative and not to be trusted imo.
Even his fans are saying g we shouldn't finish top 4 it's quite pathetic to go into any competition with that mindset. It's weak and portrays weakness ole was the same.
Keep expectations low In the hope that he can convince the numbskulls that 6th was a marvelous result. Using deflection at every opportunity. Is that in the United DNA I don't think so.

How much stick did I get when I said ETH was useless this time last year!
13 Sep 2024 17:45:54
Oh Maze, get over it.
13 Sep 2024 17:49:58
All he has said is we are aiming for bigger trophies and go into every game wanting to win.
The rest of what you are talking about I have no idea as I watched it and you are imagining things. what's wrong with you guys seriously.
Has slot come out and said we are going for the pl title, or ange or emery or anyone who finished ahead of us besides city and arsenal. not sure even Arteta has said it.
Do you guys see journos asking these guys about winning the league, its Gotcha question. If he says yes he will called deluded by you lot.
Anyone who thinks he should say our aim is to win the league is the numbskull and detached from reality. If you don't like the truth its your issue.

Our aim should ALWAYS be to win the league! That’s reality!
Whether it’s achievable is a different thing entirely.

Ahmad. There have been multiple occasions when Ten Haag has said that we couldn’t win the league.
On April 27, ahead of the Burnley game, Ten Haag said “We are competing for top four. […] We are not in this moment in a position to compete for number one or number two [in the league]. That is fact”. In the same press conference, he said “It’s not a two or three horse race in the Premier League anymore […]. There are six or seven teams that can compete”.
As he’d already made it pretty clear that he didn’t think we could win the league when saying this, one has to assume that we weren’t one of the six or seven teams that he was talking about. Ergo, he seems to be suggesting that we are the seventh or eighth best team in the league and that finishing fourth would be an achievement.
In a pre-season interview with AD Sportwereld, when asked if we had a chance of winning the league this season he said “we are really a long way away from that”.
You can call me a numbskull or detached from reality all you want, but I’m not the one trying to dispute objective facts. Ten Haag absolutely said these things and no amount of childish name calling is going to change that. If you don’t like the truth, that’s your issue.

You are right, he is just trying to gaslight you. But you are not falling for it, are you?
14 Sep 2024 10:03:47
Having spent (wasted) £600 million, how much more do we need to spend before he can say we should be challenging for the title?

Redseven
Where was united in the league table comparative to the leaders last April. Are you for real or just so far gone in your dislike of eth that you only see what you want to see. What did you expect him to say. We had a sliver of a chance for top 4 at that time if we could win out and some help from teams above us.
He always answers it by replying about transition, need to win every game and our our aim is higher trophies.
Its basic media training 101 for anyone who does media or in a public space and understands you will get quoted as journos will take a bit of what you said that would make a good headline. I do a lot of them every year and know exactly what he is doing and saying. This is not WWF and the rock for Christ sake. if you want that watch WWF and skip his pressers.
Actually every manager does it its the oldest Gotcha question in football as they will bring it back at you all season if its not going well.
If you think a sign of a good manager is one that is about pleasing you and some of the fans with Bravado bs statements, then you will be disappointed more often than not.
Enzo has squad that they have spent 1.4 bill pounds, do you see him talk about any of this nonsense.
Reality is you dislike/ disapprove of him beyond a point off return so whatever he says or does will not matter. I get it.
14 Sep 2024 11:02:17
Ahmad, are you really not getting the point or just avoiding it? He is just throwing in the towel even before the ball is being kicked. Whether you win it or not, you simply cannot say that you are not competing. For fucks sake, if you are not in it to win it please stay home and let some other team try it. You are the manager of MANCHESTER UNITED not some roadside league team that it doesn't matter what you say.
If you call criticism as hatred then do tell us what we should term your blind faith in that dumbass.
14 Sep 2024 11:58:32
Great Post ua .
Hatred ?? some cultures use that word in a totally wrong context see it on here a lot. If you don't understand you don't understand.
14 Sep 2024 17:36:50
Ahmad. The manager of Manchester United should never be saying that we can’t compete for the highest honors, even if the chances of us actually doing so are incredibly slim.
No, I don’t expect him to come out and say “Yes. We’re going to win the league next season”, but I also don’t expect him to throw in the towel before a ball has even been kicked.
What kind of message does that send to the players or potential signings? What about the fans who spend thousands of pounds every year to come and watch the team play? There are a million and one ways he could have chosen to answer that question. Here are just a few:
“Right now we’re just focusing on our next game and finishing the season strongly. ”
“We have a talented group of players and a lot of young players coming through, so anything is possible. ”
“We still have four more league games left to play and a cup final to prepare for. After that, we’ll start to think about next season. ”
“Our main aim is to improve our performances on the pitch. If we can do that, we’re confident that next season will be better than this one. ”
I don’t think anybody would have batted an eyelid if he’d come out with one of these responses, but instead, we’re still talking about it four months later; yet another distraction that we really don’t need. Ten Haag zealots love to harp on about all of the terrible things that he’s had to deal with, but like most of those other issues, this one is very much of his own making.
