Rabiot is an upgrade on Casemiro, is he worth the risk, I would say probably.
Depay is available too. worth the risk, possibly.
Neither are over the hill, the key would be in the contract length.
In both instances you good sign them on one year contracts, with option for more if it works out.
Thoughts?

Romano said Rabiot looking for 3/ 4 year contract 200k in wages and signing bonus. He estimates cost would be 70/ 80 mill euros in total. He turned down 170k net from Juve to extend. he also said we were approached by his agent 2/ 3 times and not interested.
Can't see Ineos doing any of this stuff and they don't strike me as people who panic or rush into things. Jan window more likely depending on where we are squad wise.

Depay scored 5 goals last season. Hardly the player to get us into CL places. Rabiot i’d take but I feel like we could have Modric and Iniesta in the middle and still not control a game.

Haven't INEOS stated they they want younger players on smaller contracts. Can you see them making a knee jerk reaction now to the player recruitment policy.
If TH doesn't sort this quickly then he will be gone and we all know that. Maybe the next guy will figure out the key to make this team work.

As long as there is a discernible improvement in the results and style of play after the break, Ten Hag will stay. It's been a long time since any manager enjoyed great success at OT, and any replacement looking at that will have to believe that he will have the power, under the new management structure, to break out of this vicious cycle of highly paid underperforming players. As I've shown, we still have maybe 8 of our top 10 cost players who are virtually redundant. ETH is not blameless for that, however, if he can show that our new approach, cultivating younger players into a longer term cohesive project, is on the road to success they will keep him. I don't think the new crowd will bow to fan pressure quite as easily as the know-nothings who ran the club before SJR bought in.

Asked same question. are utd still looking at rabiot? Surely worth having especially as a free agent.

Appreciate that Ahmad, but perhaps neither player are in a position to negotiate soon. Their stock diminishes pretty quickly from here on in.
Take De Gea as an example, he held on for big wages etc, did he get them, I don't think so.
They might be attainable on 'our' terms.
Not sure about loan windows and closing times, neither have I explored available options that might give us some experience in the middle. Experience that can actually play, unlike Cas.

I’ve never been convinced by Depay. In fact I’m a little stunned at how he ended up at Barcelona and leading the line for the Netherlands.

Offer him 100k a week on a one year with the option to extend. Failing that he goes and joins Osimhen in Turkey with the rest of the contract brinksman.

Why donwe meed to sign someone to replace Casemiro, Ugarte is already here.
04 Sep 2024 01:39:29
We don't need Rabiot. He is another who flatter to deceive. Let go by better teams than Utd for a good reason. He isn't good enough.

Re Depay
He is best coming in off the left wing and that's where Garnacho/ Rashford play mainly so cannot see it happening.

As others have stated, you’d like to think that players like Rabiot and Depay would be open to a one year deal rather than sitting around for the next ten months waiting for next summer’s window; at which point, their stock will have fallen further still having not played for 12 months.
Both would improve our squad depth, and while Depay would perhaps have less of an impact than Rabiot, I’m pretty sure he had more goal contributions last season for club and country than all of our current wide players. He could do a job through the middle as well if needed.

I'm dumbfounded by depay too how he has had the clubs he has leaves me gobsmacked. Wouldn't touch him.
Rabiot I'm a big fan of. But it's always determined by finances and logic.
If we're interested and I don't believe we are, then it only becomes possible at x price terms length of contract etc. If that doesn't suit him then it's a non starter.

it's a no to both for me.
04 Sep 2024 12:36:22
Salford…. I’d argue he was good enough. He was good enough to start in a World Cup final.
04 Sep 2024 17:06:12
Salford who let him go?
Left psg and juve at the end of his contract. Both offered him new contracts.

Rabiot has chosen ambition, so he decided to Join Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia on 385 000 € a week! What a ''steal''
'especially on a free' is always a funny one to me.

Never in a million years is Rabiot an upgrade on Cas, get Cas to do what he is good at and he far better than Rabiot, you can’t ask Cas to be up front one second than back the next than playing balls through midfield, he needs to be doing what he made a career out of!
Depay please do me a favour, not even worth commenting on.
