Sancho for sterling. no thanks! ' Makes zero sense. Either a permanent sale or a loan with obligation to juventus. Or even a chiesa swap. After all the good work by INEOS this would be strange if remotely true.
27 Aug 2024 17:03:21
Perhaps there are other players Chelsea may wish to swap?

It is a no from me, seems an odd choice unless he drastically reduces his wages to stay in the Premier League. Goes against what the new management appear to be trying to do. Only logic would be if Chelsea were the only option for Sancho and the club are that desperate to get rid of him.
I have never been a fan of Sterling however he has obviously been a very good player playing for some big clubs and a stalwart for England for years.
The Sterling of a few years back would put the fear up defenders as he ran at them with pace, they would not know where he was going. half the time that was because he did not know where he was going either and could end up running down blind alleys into defenders. I have not seen anything in the current version of him that suggests he is what we want, would fit into what we are doing. However they maybe looking for someone a bit different for the squad. but at the price/ salary I would sooner that spent on someone else.

Mad hatter I’m sure there is but they probably aren’t ones we’d want to have. Maybe Cole palmer ??.

I'd be surprised but yoro surprised me as did maz but I think this would be a bigger surprise.
Is sterling a better option than sancho or amad or rashford or Anthony? Imo that's a very big yes. But it would depend on all the usuals length of contract and terms.
I think the only proven club winners at the highest level were Evans and casimero. You could argue they won't play much so our squad is thin on experience and knowhow.
He would not be on my list of choices.
But if the choice is loan sancho for a year to a club for the season with no obligation to buy and pay 150k pw to his wages and then have the same problem next year
Or
Swap him with sterling on a 2 year with an option of 3rd year contract on same money as sancho I'd choose option 2 all day long.
If nobody wants to buy him and match his terms, then we have to look at other less than ideal options.
Sterling for 2 years is a better option than paying wages for nothing.
All that said I don't see it happening and I think we will be stuck with option 1.
You can't sell if nobody wants to buy leave this late I fear we will get stuck on loani g him and making g up over half his wages.
I really hope we get a full sale if not a swap of sorts is a good option. If they throw in chalabah on top of sterling I'd bite their hand off.

There are so many player I would prefer over Sterling. But, if we can get a reasonably large fee for Sancho and shift his wages, and sign Sterling for a smaller fee, on much lower wages, perhaps with significant performance related clauses, on a two year deal with an option for a further year, then that would almost certainly be better than keeping Sancho. It wouldn't be the perfect way finish our business this summer, but it would strengthen our squad further. Get Hjulmand, Branthwaite, and Kerkez next summer along with a few obvious departures (Maguire, Lindelof, Casemiro, Eriksen) and potentially replace Onana and we will be looking very strong.

Ken i totally agree
Sancho earning 350k per week to warm the bench or Sterling on the same or bit less who can play ball and will certainly do better than Sancho ob the bench all season. The issue is the club valuation of the players and Sterlings peak years are ending where Sancho has just started. A cheeky MU unwanted player for 2 of Chelseas i.e Sterling and Chilwell.
27 Aug 2024 18:42:04
Just realised I would resign Elanga than have Sterling or Sancho in the squad this season. But at least if it happens, Sterling might be a better option than Sancho.
27 Aug 2024 18:54:51
The idea of signing Sterling is completely ludicrous. He’s a 29 year old who’s way past his best with no resale value whatsoever. Not withstanding the fact he’s played for Citeh and Liverpool, so loyalty isn’t high up on his priority list. Plus……he’s deemed not good enough at Chelsea, so taking him is going to do one of our top 4 rivals a massive favour.
In my opinion, if he comes in, it undoes some of the great work and principles that INEOS have come in and instilled.
27 Aug 2024 19:31:25
I've no problem with it if he comes in on a loan deal only.
It's alright having a load of young ones that we're all looking forward to growing with the club, but you still need experience and nous in a team.
With Rashford in a downward spiral, Antony in a never-started spiral, and Sancho, well just being Sancho, I can see the attraction for the club.
But please not as a permanent signing.

I feel sick thinking of an ex pool and ex city player in man united shirt.
Too much for me.
27 Aug 2024 19:52:18
I got to believe that this story is nonsense. It’s the kind of deal we would have done while Ed Woodward was at the helm and would undo a lot of the good work that’s been done this summer.
I wouldn’t take Sterling on a free, let alone in exchange for a player we spent £70m on just a few seasons ago. I know Sancho’s not worth half that nowadays, but we should still be able to get £30m for him from somebody.
27 Aug 2024 21:12:22
And if we can't redseven? What do you think they have been trying to do all summer but all him.
Backpass that's probably the most small-minded readon I've ever heard. I'd take Allison in goal in the morning.
27 Aug 2024 21:19:13
It's shocking how little value our players have in the market. It is not like they are on £400k a week! There are players from youth set ups going for more than a player like sancho seems to be worth - crazy. The market seems much more restricted this summer. Ending these ridiculous contracts must be a priority for ineos.
28 Aug 2024 01:32:55
Ken. I read somewhere that we were trying to get £40m+ for him. Given his wages, I’d sell for whatever is being offered just to get him off the books, but £30m seems doable, and is reportedly what Dortmund were offering at the start of the window.
28 Aug 2024 09:47:50
Backpass: I agree 100%. Small mindedness didn’t do SAF much harm.
28 Aug 2024 11:05:46
I think I'd take Coman over the the other 2 names being mentioned; Sterling and Chiesa. But I do agree with Ken though.
{Ed002's Note - No chance.}
