Absolutely loved Martinez interview after the game last night. Taking the mick out of carragher is always welcome but seriously though he clearly has an elite mentality to go with his footballing ability. Exactly what a United player should be and he said it 'if you play for this club you have to take criticism' he's definitely my favourite player of recent years and a future club captain I'm certain.

If he could take the criticism he wouldn’t be taking the mick out of Carragher.

Agree Norn couldn’t have put it better myself. He handles himself and the media really well. He’s elite as a player and has the mentality to match. Our best defender since the Rio and Vidic days.
No idea what Gnev2 is talking about, as usual.

If he could stay fit, I would have him as Captain, by a country mile.

He is a Model pro who is not blessed with size for the position he plays but has so many attributes that nullify his smaller size. Its what has been missing at the club for a long time, guys with his type of mentality and desire. Non of what he said is cheap talk.

Martinez has an elite mentality, would be a good choice for Captain, above Bruno. One point on leadership within the team. We so lacked it previously so Martinez is a strong candidate for Captain, if his fitness holds and don’t underestimate the impact of adding DeLigt into the mix. Captain is not as important in football as cricket but seeing a leader in battle with you gives marginal gains.

Good point red man, there’s lots more leaders in this current squad than in previous seasons. Martinez, de ligt etc even Maguire tbf. Quality is something we needed to improve but the mentality is also.

Martinez is my captain, a true warrior who gives his all, an elite mentality, and a absolute quality player who has the rare knack of elevating the performances of his teammates.
MdL is another obvious leader to join the squad this summer. Captain of a top European side before his 18th birthday highlights his leadership credentials.
While the club only has one captain, to be successful you need leaders all over the pitch.
Roy Keane might be the most obvious name that most of us think of when we think of great captains. Yet he was also in a team where we had the likes of Schmeichel, Neville, Irwin, Pallister, Butt, Scholes, Beckham, Giggs, Sheringham, Stam, Ferdinand, Fletcher, RvN, Rooney and Ronaldo.
Many of those guys went on to be club captains either at United or other clubs as well as captains of their national sides.
It Keane wasn't available you could have made a strong case for 4 or 5 other players in the squad to be our captain.
That is the case for all great sides, they have leaders all over the pitch. Players who willingly take on responsibility and look to take the lead though their performances and attitude.
Hopefully we are starting to get a few more leaders at our club. Martinez and MdL are the obvious ones, but there are others, who are showing the right mentality and are quietly going about leading the rest.
I've high hopes for Mainoo in this respect, he isn't the overt leader like Keane, but he has a quiet confidence and determination, while his performances certainly lead the way for others. He always takes responsibility when on the pitch. If he can reach his full potential and grow into this side then maybe he will be a candidate for club captain in the future.
