De light was a big name few years back. Juve got rid wasn't good enough, Eric dier kept him out of the Bayern side, anyone else a bit worried there, another 50 million is it.

Wouldn't have been my choice but better than maguire lindelof and yoro so I'm pleased enough to be honest.

He's a good player no doubt, is he a great one? That remains to be seen.

I've said on here a few times over the past few weeks since we've been linked with him that I'm a little concerned about his potential signing.

I'm not convinced he's the kind of sweeper CB we need to start alongside Martinez. While playing him and Yoro together means one of them has to play on their weaker side.

Then there's his injury record, nothing awful, but regular little niggles. Which has to be a concern given the more physically demanding nature of the EPL compared to any of the Eredivisie, Serie A or the Bundesliga.

Finally, Bayern rarely sell a player who is on the up, someone who goes on to do well once they've left them. We've been burnt a couple of times buying players from them. They aren't in a position where they are being forced to sell MdL, they are selling him by choice. Maybe they don't think he can be fit enough to be worth paying him the wages they do, or maybe they don't think he's good enough. Or more worryingly maybe they have doubts over him as a person. Whatever the reason they aren't prepared to sell him for a our benefit.

However, those are concerns and things that might not be an issue at United. Maybe he can adapt and play more as a sweeper alongside Martinez, maybe he won't suffer as many injuries at United, and maybe this is the rare occasion where Bayern have erred when selling a player.

I'm prepared to give him my full backing and I hope he does well. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I had a few concerns.

At 24 he's still a young cb, he's been at ajax, juve and bayern, you can't just walk into their teams, and no doubt will have learnt from some of the best teams. He will be back with a manager this time that knows how to get the best out of him so I think this will be a good move for both parties.

Dier did not keep him out of the bayern squad, he was injured .
This clubs fanbase gives off real "with friends like these" vibes.

He was injured when Dier was signed. Once he got fit he went straight to starting alongside Dier, and the ones who lost their places in the 11 were Kim and Upamecano. Also, Bayern fans really do not want him to be sold. I am more concerned by his fitness than his quality.

Dier did not take his place haha that is a myth.

He's a good player, I hope he can stay fit. He's a better version of Maguire and has a lot of experience.

Literally played alongside Dier in the CL semi final, don’t let facts get in the way of the moaning though.

He has had ups and downs. He had a great relationship with eth so I see that as a big plus. As wazza said he has good technique which is sorely lacking all over the pitch for years.
I'm looking forward to having a full back that has strong attacking abilities and intent.
I'm also intrigued by zirkzee who is a bit of a maverick I like the way he plays from the bits I've seen but I've not seen him play over a full 90 mins.
We have a really good run of fixtures. Despite being 8th we only play 2 teams that finished above us in our 1st 10 games. We should be talking about a fast start. I can't see any reason why not.
I accept it takes time for players to adapt and gel but if we can get a couple of midfield players to go with the lads from bayern who both know exactly what eth wants then that would speed up the process.

Let’s wait until he’s got 30 games under his belt before deciding he’s not good enough.

Wazza, I agree we have to see what he can do in the shirt before we judge whether he has been a good signing or not.

Yet given he made his debut nearly 8 years ago, and he has played for Ajax, Juventus and Bayern there is definitely a big enough sample size to have a good idea about his strengths and weaknesses.

Like with all signings there will be a few concerns over aspects of the player.

I don't think anyone is writing him off, just raising a few legitimate concerns. Hopefully those concerns end up unfounded and he finds his footballing home at United, plays great football and becomes an Old Trafford legend.

I'm excited - never watched him in great detail but he's got a good pedigree and stacks of experience, including winning titles.

First signing we've (nearly) made that goes into the starting XI?
