Happy to see DDG edging closer to a return to football, although a little surprised by the £60k/ week he's reportedly agreed with Fiorentina. I'd happily take him back on twice that amount, although after the way the club treated him at the end, I suspect there'd be very little chance of that happening.

Doesn't exactly need the money does he, supposed to be worth around £60m.

Lovely place is Florence, and here’s another excuse to continue following Fiorentina.

Makes you realize the club was being ran like a luni asylum 345k a week at united. out of work for a year and then 60k a week to a second tier Italian club. Good guy but not sorry to see him go. a lot of them enjoyed winning the lottery at united for too long.

The way the club treated him! We seriously over paid him for several years, he was very well looked after in his job, I wish my job looked after me this badly. His mistreatment is what exactly.
United have been a joke for agents and players to string along for over a decade, he was never worth that much a week and I don't get the sentimentality ruling over smart business decisions.

Oakbark. It’s not his fault that the club overpaid him. In fact, given how much players like Martial were earning, it could perhaps be argued that Dave’s wages were justified, what with him being our best player for four or five years on the spin.
Besides, I was referring more specifically to the club asking him to take a massive pay cut and then withdrawing their offer when he eventually agreed to it. I’m fairly certain that any one of us here would feel aggrieved if our boss told us that we’d need to slash our salary in order to remain employed after more than a decade of service, more so if they then turned around and said that they were getting rid regardless.

Ahmad we can’t use salary as a stick to beat the players with. Every single person on this forum would accept 3 times their annual income in a heartbeat if it was offered to them. Why would a footballer do any different? The blame lies fully with the people signing the cheques. The same can be said for players who are not good enough. We know Maguire, AWB and Fred are not very good footballers, but Manchester United employees saw otherwise and decided to buy them. Crazy. But not the player’s fault.
