Hi guys,

Is anyone able to enlighten me on the rules around homegrown players, such as what constitutes homegrown, how many we need in the squad, and who we therefore have that qualifies?

Thanks!

Try Google it that way you will get the correct answer.

I knew someone would come back with that response. This is a discussion forum, I much prefer to try and have a discussion than just Google everything. Keeps life a bit more interesting.

Ok, let me help you.

Each club has to have 8 home grown players in their squad, grown st gome in a greenhouse, in peat free compost.

However, if they have been grown in the wild, then the requirement is only 6, but they have to have spent at least a year in the greenhouse to qualify as home grown.

Rashford was spawned in a greenhouse so he's good, whereas Mount grew by the side of the M1, so he wasn't home grown, but he is now after a year in the greenhouse. Clear?

From what I know there are 2 categories of home grown.

Cat 1 home grown at club

Player has been trained at the club for at least 3 years before the age I believe it's 22 so for players outside the UK 18-21.

I believe you need 6 of these in your squad

Cat 2 Home grown same country

Same as above but any player that has been trained in England for at least 3 years before age of 22, there needs to be 8 of these and the 6 club trained count.

Players u21 do not have to be registered in a prem squad to be able to play, if you don't satisfy the above you lose a squad place per player e. g. if you only have 4 cat 1/ 2 you can only register 21 players.

I believe this is how it's been for years this may be the European rules though but I'm sure they're pretty similar.

So we have in our 6: Heaton, Evans, mainoo, mctominay, gore, hannibal, rashford, garnacho - 2 of which are out of contract in a year, and 2 most are expecting to sell - could this be a reason we actually keep mctominay or does colleyer replace him next season? And has anyone seen enough of Gore to suggest he stays part of the squad?

And added for the 8: Shaw, maguire, wan bissaka, mount, sancho - so keeping Shaw and mount, others available?

I'd suggest we will be looking at a few more home grown players over the next year or 2. Jb from Everton may be a good bet still.

Any other homegrown players from other clubs you guys think are worth targeting?
