Not seen much, other than a few Bayern champions league games. I know he was good at Ajax.
I have read somewhere that he’s comfortable at right or left back, which is good.
Not sure if he’s that much better than Dalot, but probably offers a lot more than AWB going forward.

Thanks fallguy.

From reports, so probably wise to take it with a pinch of salt, the deal for Mazraoui hinges on United finding a buyer for AWB.

He's a good player, likes to get forward, good on the ball, while fine defensively. He can cover at LB as well which is a bonus.
The one real drawback is his poor injury record. This is what I wrote about him a few days ago:
"Since the start of the 2017/ 18 season Mazraoui has missed 422 days due to no less than 23 separate injuries, missing a total of 100 games for his club.
Last season alone he had 5 separate injuries, missing 96 days and 19 games for Bayern Munich. ".
For me that injury record has to be a serious red flag, especially given the more physical nature of the EPL and our own poor record with handling injuries in recent season's.

From what I’ve seen of him (which, admittedly, isn’t an awful lot), swapping Mazraoui for AWB would be a bit of a downgrade, and that’s before we get into the former’s horrendous injury record.
I saw somebody on FB saying that AWB wouldn’t get into the starting eleven at City, Liverpool, Bayern, Real, or Barca, and while this is probably true, the same could definitely be said of Mazraoui.

Sounds like he will fit in perfectly with that injury record.

Ken, Mazraoui joined Bayern two years ago, at that time Barce were supposedly interested as well, he is very, very good going forward. His crossing is particularly good (Rasmus may start getting a good service) Defensively he is not as good, definitely not his strong point.
However, he did have a number of injury problems last season, hopefully he has overcome these and if so he could be a very good attacking addition.
Reports are that we have agreed a fee with West Ham for AWB, just his personal terms to be agreed.

Yeah let’s buy another player with questionable fitness. That makes total sense given our record last season.
30 Jul 2024 00:28:29
So we swap someone who is good at defending but questionable going forward with the polar opposite.
Does anyone remember the number of shots conceded last year?

AWB won’t sign a new contract and quite frankly can’t do most things you’d want from a right full back. He’s good at one thing and that’s one on one defending, in fact good is an understatement, he’s bloody phenomenal at one on one defending, but absolutely terrible going forward, his positioning is crap and he just isn’t very good. The new leadership team have obviously decided Mazraoui is the right option to challenge Dalot and that will do for me, they know a lot more than people who’ve seen a couple or videos on YouTube.

Agreed GDS2. I would swap AWB for literally any mid level right back. We could not find another right back with worse technique.
I couldn’t believe it when the story came out that we’d scouted about a gazillion right backs, and AWB is the one we chose.
Bless him though, it’s not his fault we spent around £50m on him.

I do t think AWB is great at defending or one on one defending at all. His positional sense is not great, what he is great at is recovery tackles. The issue here is that he has already made the mistake that's let's the winger into a dangerous position with the ball.
A great one on one defender is someone like Ashley Cole, he never let his man have a sniff.

Brilliant full back oakbark. One of the best ever in the epl.
31 Jul 2024 11:23:56
Gds, bang on.
Stylistically, the club look at someone like mazraoui and believe that he will add more to the team. AWB offers nothing other can great one v one defending. But he ends up in these positions because of his poor positioning.
I always said that defenders who end up sliding and making last ditch tackles, looks great, especially in the premier league (we love a tackle) but they end up doing that because they're in the wrong place to start with.
Rio, was king at that, running towards the goal making last ditch tackles, he had great agility and speed, but once the speed went he was getting found out more and more.
I used to love Maldini and Paul McGrath, they were always in the right place at the right time. Now, that was great defending.

To quote Maldini
'If I have to make a tackle, then I have already made a mistake'
