'Man Utd defender Harry Maguire to Sky Sports News: "Everything I've heard and the action I've been shown from the club, I'm part of the future and it is time to crack on'
???.

If we sign another cb he might get the hint. If we don't he is bound to play games. Too many for my liking I suspect.
I still hoping we get JB and that a decent offer comes in for Maguire before the window closes.
26 Jul 2024 21:08:48
To be honest. If Maguire understood and accepted his role as a, most likely 4th choice CB, I’d keep him ahead of Lindeloff. I actually thought he proved his worth last season when we needed him and he is a better player than being a 4th choice at United so I think he should move for himself, think he’d be excellent for a West Ham or even Newcastle. But if he wants to stay then I wouldn’t be annoyed.
26 Jul 2024 21:41:29
At the moment he is still 3rd choice at worst ports. 1 more signing in that position and he should see the writing on the wall.
26 Jul 2024 22:06:04
He’s too good to be 4th choice, but not good enough to be a starter for Utd. The choice then is up to him.
If yoi’re a player, on massive wages, why leave Man Iyd?
27 Jul 2024 01:54:53
Eric I've no issue with him staying as long as we don't need to play him very often. 4th choice would be about right so hopefully we get jb in or de ligt although I don't see that one coming off you would think it might be done before now. Talk of Silva again but I'm not sure if there is any truth in that.
27 Jul 2024 03:03:07
4th choice Ken? Give over lad.
We would be better off playing with 10 men who knows how the system works and who don't require the system to change to accommodate them. Honestly people have bad memories!
???.
27 Jul 2024 07:36:19
It only takes another couple of injuries for that 4th choice to be starting every week.
Maguire is on a wedge which he won’t get elsewhere. We will see in the coming weeks if he wants to go elsewhere to start every week, or stay at United and collect his money.
His interviews over the years show he’s a bit deluded in terms of how good he is, so he may think he’s still first choice.

Personally I'd rather keep Lindelof over Maguire as I feel he's more suited to how we want to play (not ideal, but certainly better suited than Maguire) .
That said, Maguire did show a good attitude and fight last season. Something we certainly need more of in our squad.
From a financial perspective, Maguire costs more in wages, yet Lindelof is out of contract next summer. So keeping him would mean losing him for nothing next summer, as opposed to keeping Maguire this year and still being able to sell him next summer. Overall there probably isn't much in it. Marginally makes more sense to sell Lindelof this year and Maguire next summer.
Ultimately it probably comes down to the offers we receive this year. If we don't get an offer for Maguire, or we only get poor offers, or if Maguire doesn't want to accept any offers we receive then he probably stays.
Given the amount of game time he got last season, along with Varane leaving and the only current replacement being an 18 year old. I'd suspect Maguire thinks he'll get a good amount of game time this season. His recent comments suggest he thinks he will. So I'd imagine he would be inclined to reject any move to a "smaller" club and accept a lower wage.
We need to bring in another CB, pushing him down to 4th choice. Which is fine for a season.
Then next summer with a year left on his deal, and a season as 4th choice behind an 18 year old I suspect Harry will be more inclined to accept an offer to move on.
27 Jul 2024 14:56:31
We have a few people on the staff who are giving interviews and coming across as completely deluded that's for sure wazza.
27 Jul 2024 16:50:53
Lindelof and Maguire are equally inadequate.
A debate about those two staying sums up the predicament the club currently finds themselves in. Neither are good enough to play for the club. yet, they show just how far standards have slipped.
Sell both, move on and leave mediocrity in the past where it belongs.
27 Jul 2024 17:14:08
Ideally, you want to sell both Maguire and lindelof.
But I'd imagine another CB will sign, leaving Yoro, Martinez, Evans and AN other but I could see us having 5 CBS too with Maguire and Evans being used as cover in cup competitions and other games.
I've a good feeling about his window. Business is far from done IMO.
27 Jul 2024 18:35:41
Think I might have had a bit of sun because firstly I actually agree with Shappy and secondly I actually read one of his posts!
Lindelof offers a more pacier, adaptable, and cost effective option to Maguire.
I do think he’s deluded though (Maguire) he thinks he’s still Englands best centre half. I’d get a bit for him while we can. Another 12 months on him and he’ll be worthless. I think Eric needs to spell it out for him.
27 Jul 2024 19:14:07
We would be absolutely spoiled to have a player like a maguire as a squad player. The lad has a pair of bollox and all of the crap that has been spouted about him by "fans" doesn't seem to bother him one bit. Maybe not good enough to build a side on, but an excellent option as a squad player .
27 Jul 2024 20:25:42
Deano,
Your squad players should be players that can slot into the team without disrupting anything and just fitting into the style, see Fletcher, O’Shea, Brown, Butt et al, not a player that when he plays means the whole team has to change their whole style to suit him. He’s a good player on his day but not for us and we need to get rid of him as soon as possible.
28 Jul 2024 01:22:29
We will be spoiled if we keep him!
28 Jul 2024 12:09:18
Fair play to HM, he actually did alright last season. Still, I think the post above nailed it, he's not good enough to be third choice, but really too good to be 4th choice.
I would rather keep Lindelof as 4th choice than Maguire, he just fits into the style of play better.
28 Jul 2024 13:33:11
Dalot brilliant and maguire did alright? Do people forget how crap we were. We finished 8th. Nobody was brilliant and nobody was alright.
We were crap collectively and individually.
28 Jul 2024 14:00:08
Individually that was Dalot's best season for us. He was defensively sound for the most part, good in possession, helped progress the ball and had an impact in the final third. All while having to play a third of his games out of position at LB due to the injury issues.
In many different metrics he out performed other RB's often considered amongst the best in the league.
Ultimately it's a team sport and where the team ends up dictate whether the team had a good season or not. Yet it's still possible that one person does a really good job in the team, but the rest don't and overall the quality they added doesn't offset the poor performance of the collective.
Maguire had a better season individually last year than he did the year before (where he was awful) . While praising him for the hard work, effort and good attitude he showed last season. We have to appreciate that he was a big part of our defensive issues. His reluctance (plain refusal) to play a higher line contributed to our wide open midfield, which ultimately put other players in disadvantageous positions often leading to them making mistakes and that led to goals being conceded.
I also think Maguire benefitted from Martinez being out injured as both prefer to play as the front foot, aggressive CB who goes the win the ball. Which is problematic when they play together. Yet without Martinez in the team he had a CB partner who is more of a sweeper who can clean up behind him. Which meant when he lost a challenge someone was there to stop it leading to a goal.
28 Jul 2024 16:42:56
Mainoo was very good individually.
Garnacho was pretty good individually.
Hojlund did well in his first season while receiving very little service individually.
Dalot was good while having his best season individually.
Haven’t you learned from your recent embarrassment after talking in absolutes Ken?
28 Jul 2024 17:57:10
I'm never embarrassed wazza I've no need to be.
Dalot having his best season does not make it a good one.
If you think their levels were good that's your opinion.
Mainoo aside none of them were good enough over the season.
28 Jul 2024 20:06:57
Did you not say Tumble, that the players should not be judged harshly on last season due to all the injuries as the manager being excused due to injuries.
28 Jul 2024 23:19:37
No I didn't banjoe. I said people giving the manager a pass for that must give the players a pass also. I don't give the manager a pass. He and then were fully responsible for our league form last year.
