EtH has signed his new extension until 2026. Hopefully with this and Ashworth resolved, we will start to see some movement in the player department.

I see mitchell gone to Newcastle, so they upgraded.

Very happy with the contract. Two years is perfect. Gives the new staff time to plan for the future, but allows them to move on from ETH if he isn’t working out.
I’m hoping we get a cb, dm, and cf sorted before the new season starts.

Great business by Newcastle. Obtain a compensation package for Ashworth whilst recruiting a better Sporting Director.

FFS can’t do right for doing wrong ?.

Couldn't care less about Mitchell. The club got the man they wanted. Newcastle identified his replacement. End of.

Ashworth a club builder, described as the hub in the middle of a wheel, organising the spokes that reach outwards.
Am sure Mitchell brilliant as well, but INEOS want to rebuild the club from scratch.

The pertinent conditions and pressures at United are very different to those at Newcastle so the roles will carry different responsibilities and different scales of priority.
Mitchell would have been available to United during the time it took to get Ashworth on board so, ultimately, SJR pursued the option he decided would best fit the strategy required at United.
I'd imagine SJR to be far more successful in business than any of us so it's a bit arrogant for any of us to suggest that Mitchell, for the actual nature of the role, would be the better option?

I was keen on Mitchell going back before Ineos came in, however I am very happy with Ashworth and think that with the size of club, what we need to do and the remit he will likely get he is right for us now.
I think SJR and Ineos already had a relationship with Mitchell and decided not to offer him the Sporting Director role (possibly role reporting to Ashworth) so we got the person we wanted.
Fans need to stop wishing for the next thing, the thing we do not have andn focus on the brilliant moves the club are making and give it time.
Ultimately it could be win win for us and Newcastle, we got who we wanted, they got who they wanted and a bit of money to help PSR.

Other than of course Ed02 said he would be best for the role, which I rather fancy may be the source of many people thinking he would be best for the role.

I am glad the eth saga is over makes sense for all parties. Ashworth or Mitchell on their own means very little and its the overall structure that you need to put into place to help any senior executive to succeed.
I think the club has done exceptionally well getting all the pieces together and probably more coming. Ultimately it going to come down to improving the team, culture, environment and winning. It may take a few years but we are on the right path.
One of the most interesting seasons in the Pl ahead of us.
