Here comes sir Jim Ratcliffe riding in on his white horse to save the day. Times saying he's very interested in buying a stake in the club with a view to a full takeover if the leeches sell. We can but hope and dream. At least he seems to be legit unlike Knighton who today admitted he hasn't got the money to buy the club, shock! What do we think something to get excited about or just pie in the sky? Can't remember where I saw it but the figure was 6bn to buy the club, pay the debt etc etc. Not pocket change for sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

We can only hope there is some legs to this. However, United are a cash cow for the Glazers so it'll be a surprise if they actually sell.

Feel like it would be the best thing for the club if he was the new owner. I don’t think the Glazers will sell but we can but dream.

I hope this is true. somebody who has a genuine interest in football and in this club especially. We need something like this to be challenging for trophies.

It's finally happening!

17 Aug 2022 20:59:04
Buzzing if this is true ????.

Lots of reports now coming out so there must be something afoot. fingers crossed this is the beginning of their end at our football club. I don't care about transfers or big spending I just want to see a club with a direction, plan and vision. With owners who put money into the clubs facilities and engage with us fans. Let's see where this goes.

It has been confirmed that Jim Ratcliffe is interested in buying the club by his spokesperson, who is quoted as saying to the Times-

'If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer. If something like this was possible, we would be interested in talking with a view to long-term ownership'

A very encouraging statement but a VERY long way to go before we can say goodbye to the present owners, at least a glimmer of hope.

Sir Jim to pump in £250m on Casemiro, Antony and De Jong in the next two weeks? Ah, dreaming again!

17 Aug 2022 21:39:52
why would he stick his money in if he's getting less than 51% he gets no say in anything . he is too shrewd for that -same as you or me going and buying 10 shares in Facebook.

What makes you guys think any of this is even remotely real. its a the farthest from reality. if there is a change of ownership or even a part sale/ dilution by the glazer at some point in the future the process will be run by one off the major investment banks.

With certainty the investment banks like Goldman, Morgan Stanley, Jp Morgan to name a few would be submitting fee proposals to run the process. If you ever hear it from a senior investment banker its much more credible than some of the bs currently going around.

At this time the club is not a cash cow. Let's assume it would sell for £3bn net of debt. Their 69% stake is £2bn less taxes. Invested somewhere else they would earn up to £100m a year. which is way more than they're taking now.

The right offer will see them gone. Problem is the price paid for Chelsea will mean they will probably hang out for a very unrealistic figure: the buyer will know it's going to need at least another £700m to modernize the facilities and invest in the squad.

{Ed002's Note - Why net of debt? It is nothing to do with Chelsea..}

Think they said they would structure a deal so it led to long-term ownership. My guess would be a contract saying he would buy shares on a certain date at a certain price until he gained full ownership, that way the club gets investment now.

17 Aug 2022 22:59:06
Apparently they are in talks with a US investment group to sell a minority stake. Gets funds in, keeps their profits up, current chatter raises share value and they don't lose any control. This is exactly the kind of deal they will do. Its going to take a lot to get rid of these as they know they are onto a good thing.

Just read in the mail online Apollo is involved. There may be some substance to the rumours. Unfortunately if the rest of the story is true it not great news at all.

The two Glazers brothers retain control and keep running the club. it reads like a private placement for some of the family members who want to cash out.

I have 2 PE firms, who are my shareholders. The expected returns on the investment will be high so if anything there will be a bigger impetus and checks and balances on how money is spent and club making more money.

finally, there is a minimum guaranteed return to protect themselves on the downside and an exit date and a drag even as a minority shareholder.

Only thing that makes it fishy is no PE firms put money in any business without having a major say/ control on how the business is run.

It would match the views of this podcast j watched earlier with Phil Brown, where he said the club is for sale. Also say's ETH was lied to about what was available, that the players know what the team needs but Joel Glazier has the final decision on any player signing. That the club is rotten, and Joel has been advised by his own family to sell. That they are just asset striping the club.

18 Aug 2022 07:07:18
kev

How is that asset stripping if you go by what being reported. They own the club which is split between the family. some are selling their shares on a private placement.

I am just going by what is in the paper. They are just diluting by the sounds of it. If the club was for sale they would actually not go this route as it makes it more complicated later on to get everyone on board when you have a PE firm as a shareholder.

Sir Jim … Like he come riding to the help of Chelsea, popped up said he wanted to buy after closing date had passed! Like an actor or writer promoting a film or book…. he got a company to promote and a new brand of car coming these next few months, so perfect timing for him to promote….

18 Aug 2022 07:41:26
What would make this a real positive event would be the report of some family members diluting and cashing out not being accurate and the funds from such an event going back into the club for improvements to the stadium and training grounds and running the club which includes transfers.

If the people who are in charge are the right people and do they go waste the funds on another crazy transfer window is a conversation for another day:)
